storms. now behind that, we're starting to see some residual rain. you'll see rain showers covering the entire baltimore area, southwestern baltimore county seeing heavier rains up on to the northern portions of the eastern shore as well. they are seeing some stronger rains. taking a look at what it's going to look like when you wake up tomorrow. mostly cloudy with isolated showers. by noon, we'll see some clearing. then by 4:00 in the afternoon, sunny skies hopefully. we'll keep our fingers crossed. we'll break down the forecast in just a couple of minutes. >> all right. lowell, thank you. the storm system proved to be deadly. we are hearing that lightning snuck the racetrack at the nascar nine. one person died, nine were injured. not clear if all were stuck by lightning. another mass shooting inside

a temple in wisconsin. it's being called an act of domestic terrorism. seven people are dead, three others injuries, including a policeman. >> police searched a home where they think the suspect lived. looking for a motive, background, anything to answer the question why? >> what did we do wrong? what's the guy who flipped? did he hate us for our appearance ? >> reporter: the shooting happened between services at the temple. the gunman walked up to a temple member and shot him, then walked inside and opened fire. people cowering, hiding where they could, and calling out on cell phones. >> she called. don't come. there's a shooting here. reporter: event the temple president could not escape. the president tried to stop the gunman, and was shot. >> when my uncle got shot, he was lying on the floor.

he picked up the floor. they were locked in the bathroom. reporter: emergency vehicles and s.w.a.t. team swarmed. another office showed up, shot the suspect dead, but the first officer was shot multiple time. >> because of the heroic acts of the officers, they stopped it from being worse. reporter: many in the temple gathered in a nearby bowling alley, telling police whatever they could. they will be shaken up for a long time. >> when i talked to the people, they are scared. when i see their face, even their body still shaking. reporter: while they grieve here, president obama and mitt romney both weighed in, sending their con condolences, as well o the victims. >> that was andy. since it's being considered terrorism, the fbi is taking over the investigation. ♪ ♪

>> at the ripe old age of 27, michael phelp had the first full day of retirement. this weekend he became the most decorated olympian, 22 medals. what he had to say about his career. reporter: if there was any doubt, michael phelp answered the question today in front of international media, yes, he is done with competitive swimming. not done being competitive. he's glad to have more time to play golf. >> this is my first day of retirement. first day of my new life. reporter: for 20 years, his plan has been with one goal. >> i said all along, i wanted to be the first michael phelps. i wanted to do something that nobody else has done. i've been able to do a lot of firsts. that's something that i'm proud of. you know, something that i've worked to be able to achieve.

cause of a fire that have swept through a denny's restaurant friday. police have described the suspect as white male, 5'11", around 200 pounds. he was seen wearing sun glasses and a dark colored baseball hat. call police at 410-836-8844, information. trying to decide what left an 80-year-old woman dead. crews say they found heavy smoke and flaming coming from the back. after containing the fire, they found a woman who was pronounced dead. friends and family gathered. the shooting happened a week ago and was the fifth deadly shooting in the area within a week. he was described as loving and kind. the family is still trying to

meteorologist lowell melzer. >> pretty neat stuff there going on in mars. going on here, we're getting wet. just wanted to show you a couple of pop-up showers coming up in the baltimore county heading in to howard county as well as portions of carol county. that's going to be the story the entire evening heading in to tomorrow afternoon. as far as today was concerned in temperature, we were above normal. well above normal. 96 for the high, 76 for the low. 10 degrees is the normals, nowhere near the records. pretty good. 82 in the city, 77 at the airport, out on the eastern shore. way out west, oakland 66, and 67 degrees. delightful evening. as far as the rest of the evening, showers and

thunderstorms popping up here and there. temperatures cooler from 70-74 degrees. maybe in the city they will be closer to 78. wanted to show you how all of the rain came together. there's the strong line of storms. now you are just seeing some of those spotty showers. we'll show you here in the current weather. up hear -- here in to pennsylvania and new jersey, strong thunderstorms at the hour. we could see as we saw earlier, a couple of pop-up showers as well. it's due to the area that's stuck between the you upper troh and the cold front. go outside, humidity is close to 90%. it's sticky. you are also going to see a pop-up shower. once it moves through, there's high pressure. couple days of nice weather. it will be hot. it's the summer. probably around 2:00, just a

couple of spotty showers here and there. you can see the clouds clear and head in to a nice evening heading in to tuesday morning. not bad. your forecast for tomorrow? 82-86 degrees with again morning storms. clearing in the afternoon. shouldn't be too bad. northwest wind 5-10 miles per hour. we are keeping an eye on the tropics. tropical storm ernesto, moving more southward than we thought, good news for the folks in cancun. anyone have a trip coming up? i do, actually in september. i was concerned about this. when you make the big weather bucks, you get to go to cancun. don't believe it. i got a good deal. tropical storm ernesto is going to go through south and probably hit the southern portion of the gulf and move in to the mexican desert. hopefully it won't be too many problems. looking at the seven day, we'll keep an eye on tomorrow. topping out at 86.
