16-year-old mikayla maroney slipped on her second fall in the individual competition. maroney took silver behind romania's gymnast. and in tennis, andy murray beat world champion roger federer in straight sets to avenge his loss to federer last month at wimbledon bringing his fellow countrymen to their feet. and sanya richards-ross will be back on the track tonight, champ gabby douglas competes in the women's uneven bars. to the rest of the day's headlines. the alleged gunman in the deadly shooting at a sikh temple in wisconsin has now been identified at 40-year-old wade michael page. according to a legal center that tracks hate groups, page is the former leader of a neo-nazi skinhead rock band. six were killed and three others critically wounded when he allegedly burst into the temple and opened fire.

page was later shot dead by police out the temple near milwaukee. this morning i spoke with oak creek police chief john edwards and asked him why police believe page allegedly attacked the sikh temple. >> that i do not know. that's one thing we're trying to find out. we're doing a back-check on his whereabouts, where he may have purchased the handgun used. we're trying to piece that together to give us an idea of the motive he had. at this particular time we don't know why he did that. hopefully we have more information once we get investigators together to put together that information. >> authorities say page purchased the pistol used in the shooting near his home within the last 10 days. an overnight nailbiter for nasa ended in victory as the rover the size of a car landed on mars. the $2.5 billion "curiosity" rover is the largest and most ambitious mars project to day. it was never able to be fully tested on earth.

ready for how her life has changed. >> you know, for the most part i think it's stayed exactly the same. the only thing that changed i have so much support now. i had an incredible amount before. maybe a few more people know who i ambu i still have the best friends and family and teammates and i want to go home and be a normal high schooler. >> you are a normal high schooler. a huge amount of pressure for anybody, let alone first time olympian. you did not crack under the pressure. you totally delivered. how did you keep your center and keep calm and concentrate on swimming. >> my teammate and coaches were unbelievable, able to keep me calm and relaxed and excitement, which is the most important part. the excitement level. you're going to be having fun. after eight days of competition that can be hard. i have the most incredible team in the world and i wouldn't be able to do it without them. >> the bronze and relay. first gold in the 100 meter backstroke which i was lucky enough to be there and see.

michael phelps says of all his gold medals, the first is the favorite. do you agree? is the first your favorite? can you believe i'm asking which is your favorite gold medal. >> the first was the most emotional. i saw a video of my parents in the stand crying. i was trying to sing the anthem but crying at the same time. i was a total mess. the most incredible feeling in the world. >> have you had a chance to watch back your races? is that something you'd want to do? >> i've had a few during interview when i've had to watch it and they want to take me through the race. every time i watch it i get goose bumps. my adrenaline starts going. >> you mentioned you are a regular high school girl, so regular school starts in two weeks. >> extremely soon. i believe i have registration two days after i get home. >> what are regular high school things you're looking forward to doing. >> football games.
