trial today. >> kim dacey has a preview. good morning. >> michael johnson is the ex- boyfriend of phylicia's sister. she was staying in baltimore when she disappeared in december of 2010. months later, her body was found in the susquehanna river. an autopsy determined she died of asphyxiation. johnson was arrested earlier this year and charged with first-degree murder in phylicia's death. prosecutors say johnson killed phylicia in her sister's apartment and then used a 35- gallon tub to move the body. johnson pleaded not guilty to the charge. phylicia's family members believe police got the right man. >> justice prevailed pretty much right now. we are glad that the state's attorney bring charges to michael johnson. >> there is absolutely no physical evidence to, in my opinion, that corroborates that. the bone was intact. the larnyx was intact. there was no indications of trauma or injury to the

>> good morning. a few clouds in the sky. 74 degrees on tv hill. i am live in towson at the towson tavern, one of the newest restaurants that have opened in the area. baltimore county restaurant week is a good time for people to try something new. i'm here with the executive chef and he has prepared some amazing dishes. you make them work like a work of art. what does this do we have here? >> these are our restaurant week menu. these are short ribs with mashed potatoes. roasted potatoes. this is the grilled salmon with some wilted greens.

>> our big story. the phylicia barnes murder trial is set to begin today. >> kim dacey has a preview. >> michael johnson is phylicia johnson's sister's ex-boyfriend. her family has suspected him from the beginning. they are anxious to see him brought to justice. phylicia barnes went missing in december of 2010 while she was visiting her sister in baltimore. her body was found months later floating in the susquehanna river. the cause of death was ruled asphyxiation. this spring, johnson was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the case. >> i would hope that he would do the right thing. if it was him, tell the truth. tell the truth and give phylicia's family some type of closure. >> johnson pleaded not guilty to the charge, but prosecutors say johnson killed phylicia in

the state senate voted in favor of expansion of gambling on friday. it would allow table games and all of the casinos and a sixth casino in prince william county. mary pat clarke is expected to introduce a resolution at the meeting today requesting b.g.e. to appear before the council to address their slow response time following june's derecho. they want to discuss the longer outages. there can soon be a tax for any commuters that work in washington, d.c. they are considering a new commuter tax. elijah cummings says he is against this tax. the tax could generate more than a billion dollars in revenue each year. >> now insta-weather plus and

63 in parkton. a quiet start this morning. dew points in the upper 50's and low 60's. a little more humid south and east of baltimore. we have some high, thin clouds on the satellite. we will call it mostly sunny today. there's a system moving into the ohio valley that look was a chance for showers and thunderstorms tomorrow and into tomorrow night. in the short term, high pressure is blocking that from coming in and we should have another nice day today. a mixture of sun and clouds. pleasant temperatures. mid to upper 80's, maybe near 90 close towards baltimore. an outstanding day on the water if you take the boat out.
