the judge granted a postponement of the request of lawyers from both sides in the case. our reporter has a preview of the trial. >> michael johnson is phylicia barnes's sisters ex-boyfriend. the family expected him from the beginning, and they are anxious to see him brought to justice. phylicia barnes went missing in december of 2010 while she was visiting her sister here in baltimore from her home in north carolina. our body was found months later floating in the susquehanna river. the cause of death was ruled asphyxiation. this spring, johnson was arrested and charged with first- degree murder in the case. >> i would hope that he would do the right thing. if it was him, tell the truth. tell the truth and give phylicia barnes' family sense of closure. >> johnson plead not guilty, but prosecutors say he killed phylicia barnes in her sister's apartment and then used a 35-

gallon tub to move her body. relatives suspected johnson for the beginning. >> [inaudible] >> but defense lawyers believe prosecutors rest to judgment and insist the case is circumstantial at best. >> there is no physical evidence that corroborates that, in my opinion. the larynx was intact. there was no indication of trauma or injuries to the physical person. therefore, it was pretty much ruled out circumstances. i think it would have been more appropriate to be undetermined. >> wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. a new trial date for michael johnson has now been set for january 21. meantime, the special session continues in annapolis for the house of delegates is expected to vote on expanded gambling in the state. the measure would allow live table games at allstate casinos in calls for the addition of

introduce a resolution requesting that bge appear before the council to address response times. they want to discuss the water outages in north baltimore, a camden, and spalding park. if you drive into washington, d.c., everyday, you may soon have to pay an extra tax. lawmakers are considering a new commuter tax that would start taxing those that live in another state and work in d.c. one representative is strongly against the attack. officials say the tax could generate more than $1 billion in revenue each year. >> well, it has turned out to be a pleasant day. much lower humidity is a big part of that. currently 83 degrees at bwi. the humidity down to about 42%. winds calm. high pressure in control. expected temperatures in the mid-80's. mostly sunny skies.

>> a tucson woman accused of killing her own two children is in jail today. police say she's shot both are

17-month-old son and her four- year-old daughter saturday night bieber trying to shoot herself. she's charged with two counts of murder in the first degree and two counts of child abuse. she and her boyfriend, the father, but live with the two children, but he was not at home when the shooting took place. our next court appearance is august 22. several people recovering today after there were injured in a powerful oklahoma storm yesterday. the storm caused major damages to the homes and businesses there and knocked out power throughout the city. winds of at least 50 miles per hour pushed trailer homes and to roadways, ripped out power lines, and knocked down trees. police say five people were taken to hospital locker becoming trapped inside a home that collapsed. meanwhile, nerves are on edge for some texas residents as wild fires threaten more evacuation's. 15 homeowners have already been forced to flee as to the wild fires raged out of control near fort worth. the fires have scorched more than 3,000 acres of forest service officials say the fire

state. 83 right now. acting highs to get near '87, '88 later this afternoon. notice the band of clouds towards our west going across kentucky. this is the latest storm system that is trekking across the south. pretty significant thunderstorms with that further into the deep south. that will be pushing our way. as we get into tomorrow, especially later in the day, that is when a few of those thunderstorms could roll through with that system. something to keep in mind, many of you have afternoon plans tomorrow. tonight, we stayed dry. the humidity will increase a little bit ahead of that storm system. it stays mild to diet -- tonight. mid-70's downtown. mid-60's in the suburbs. tomorrow, partly cloudy. increasing humidity. highs in the upper 80's. a little bit more sticky tomorrow afternoon. a chance for storms, especially later in the day. not a washout pattern but

something that could impact if you have outdoor plans, maybe a softball game are taking family up to the park. watch the sky tomorrow later in the day. a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms even into wednesday. mostly dry. 86. 80's for the rest of the week and more storm chances friday and saturday. >> in today's medical alert, taking a daily aspirin may reduced deaths caused by cancer. that is according to a new study from the american cancer society. researchers reviewed data on more than 100,000 men and women who had been taking aspirin before any cancer diagnosis. others who later developed cancer, the daily aspirin was associated with a 16% lower mortality rate as the five years after diagnosis. experts say you should talk to your doctor about the benefits and risks of a daily aspirin. when it comes to treating your kids bad cough, is giving the medication may work best. a new study says honey should be
