confident. police are releasing few details as they investigate the deathf a father who drowned after falling from a jetty. according to eyewitnesses, he was swept out into the ocean by the storm current. he had been walking with his 2- year-old child when they both fell in the water east of the inlet parking ticket booth. a woman who was able to climb down and rescue the toddler who has been taken to the hospital. the investigation is ongoing. >> seven american military personnel and four afghans are killed after a blackhawk helicopter crashed in southern afghanistan. the taliban claim responsibility. international security officials say it is being investigated. the chopper went down in the northern region of kandahar province, a traditional taliban stronghold.

>> a pennsylvania man is behind bars accuse d of raping a 15- year-old girl. authorities were not called until the next day when he pulled out a taser. it wasn't covered that her rape and assault have occurred. he is ataccused of attacking his girlfriend and 14-old son. it might want to find a different route from the highways. state highway officials are shutting down parts of interstate 295 and 95 northbound starting saturday at 8:00 a.m.

the transportation authority said this is accommodating a group of motorcyclists writing for -- riding for victims of 9/11. during the ride, the highways will be closed at the exit ramps until the bikers get to the immediate area. there is no telling how long that will take. >> we began with a disturbing discovery. bed bugs at sinai hospital. the pests were discovered last week in an outpatient treatment room at the cancer center after a patient was reported to have been bitten. we're not talking about a widespread infestation. officials closed down the area and the infestation has been treated. dogs trained to sniff them out were brought in and then other

have been found. that room has been opened for use. where they came from is not known. for over a decade there has been a silent epidemic of hepatitis c lurking among baby boomers. three out of four patients are andheir 40's, 50's, 60's. the cdc is issuing new screening standards. >> as more baby boomers reach their golden years, many learned they have been carrying the potentially fatal virus. >> one out of 30 persons born in this year -- these years are living with hepatitis c infections. >> one-half to three-quarters do not know they have it. that is a major concern to doctors who say the longer the virus goes undetected the more damage it can cause. >> we want to fight hepatitis c

before the patient develops cirrhosis. your liver is severely injured. a lot of scar tissue and is now working the way it is supposed to work. >> in an effort to find the infections, the cdc is recommending anyone born between 1945 and 1965 have a onetime test for hepatitis c at their next visit. if they test positive, effective treatments are available. >> a person is treated with the current drugs, over 70% cure their infection. >> doctors say this blood test has the potential to prevent 50,000 cases of liver cancer and 100,000 deaths. eric edwards, wbal tv 11 news. >> another warning. gaither booster shots. this after an unusually large number of cases of whooping cough.

according to the cdc, there have been 125 cases in maryland so far and a big chunk of those cases are in infants too young to be vaccinated. more than 20,000 cases have been reported in the first seven months of the year. that is more than twice of what we saw in all of last year. we will take a look at why there has been such a big jump in the disease, whether it has to do with more accurate diagnosis or an epidemic. >> warm temperatures across the area today but with the relative humidity under 40%. temperatures not feeling too bad. it is a warm and summery day. in mechanic, down to 49 degrees to start the day. there at 73 around oakland, 76 in frost for. we had 90 in downtown baltimore.

the relative humidity is not too bad. 88 in chester town. 84 in parkton. this is moving in our direction. this cooler air as it moves into the mid-atlantic will trigger a few scattered thunderstorms. some could be strong as this collision of air mass is underway and shifts toward the mid-atlantic. in that area, we see some big storms rolling through chicago into indiana and parts of ohio and stretching towards a. at least some rainfall in the dry areas of the ohio valley. also the possibility of some strong to severe thunderstorms and that is the weather pattern that will make its way here tomorrow afternoon. we're sitting underneath high pressure that is producing nice weather for us. it will stay pleasant to the evening. this front brings the storms and behind it, the cooler air should

the weekend. highs in the low 80's saturday and sunday. a slight chance of a shower popping up on sunday. temperatures stay in to the low to the middle 80's into the middle of next week. >> we begin with the good news for folks looking for work. ad volvo is adding 50 jobs to hagerstown. they are producing heavy duty transmissions. volvo has produced units in sweden and modified them in hagerstown but demand for the vehicles are growing. the new jobs bring employment to nearly 1500 workers. we have two serious recalls.
