ellicott city for the train derailment and the ongoing cleanup. in the city, monument street is closed near patterson park. that water main break is still shut down in that area. the major roadways are checking nap ok. 11 minutes all the way down to the west side. 10 minutes in howard county. no delays forming just yet. this is the beltway in the northeast corner around green spring. 95 near killion avenue is moving freely. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> the cleanup continues in ellicott city after the train derailment that took the lives

of two young women. >> several questions remain. george lettis has the latest on the investigation. >> good morning. crews have been here all night and are still here working on this big cleanup which will take a while and so will the investigation. we are learning more about what happened. officials say the train was traveling 25 miles per hour when the first 21 cars went off the track. police say the bodies of elizabeth nass and rose mayr were found buried beneath caloal underneath the bridge. crews are trying to right the overturned cars. >> automatic function of the air brake system. there was a separation in the air line which caused the

emergency brakes to apply. >> investigators interviewed the conductor and the engineers and said they did not hear or see anything strange before the brakes were applied. there are a number of roads closed in downtown ellicott city. it is not clear when things downtown will be back to normal. george lettis, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. charges are pending against a man allegedly taking his son. police found cesar martinez safe just before 1:00 this morning. the alert was issued after his father allegedly took the boy and drove off. the search continues for a missing girl in baltimore

county. we're told she was last seen on august 17 at her grandmother's home in dundalk. she's described as 5 foot 3 inches tall, one under 62 pounds. she was last seen wearing a striped blouse with capri jeans. there is some concern she may have gone to meet somebody she met online. of a marylanding it service member killed while serving in afghanistan. david williams of frederick died kandahar.ay in canada a this comes as family and friends in edgewater remember patrick feeks. he was killed after a blackhawk

>> police have made an arrest in a deadly stabbing in dundalk. edwin iglesias-reyes is charged in first-degree murder in the death of his roommate, victor portillo. police say the man got into an argument and that is when edwin iglesias-reyes stabbed victor portillo several times. edwin iglesias-reyes is being held without bail at the baltimore detention center. the campaign is getting ready to kick it up a notch. a new poll is taking the temperature of voters. we have more on how attack ads are impacting the race. >> come surveys show president

directions. there are a couple models that take a track into the carolinas and up into the mid atlantic. the time frame would be sometime next week. if you have travel plans from the delmarva down to florida, keep an eye on what happens with isaac. it probably will become a hurricane. this is the first storm that will threaten the southeast coast of the united states. nothing on the radar right now. some patchy fog in some neighborhoods. 60 in jarrettsville. the forecast for today -- a mixture of sun and clouds. a 20% chance for a thunderstorm this afternoon. high temperature between 80 and 85. high temperatures in the mid 80's wednesday and thursday.

crews had been here all night and still working on the investigation and cleanup. we're learning more about what happened here. >> this 3000-foot csx freight train was on its way to baltimore when it derailed in ellicott city. >> i heard the noise. it kind of sounded like a car crash. looked out and it was continuous "boom, boom, boom, boom." >> the three crew members on board -- i have reviewed their statements. all their statements indicate they felt nothing and they saw nothing before an emergency brake occurred in their train. >> ntsb officals say the 80-car train was traveling an authorized 25 miles per hour when the first 21 cars went off the tracks, dumping coal everywhere and killing two 19- year-old women. police say the bodies of elizabeth nass and rose mayr were found buried beneath the coal under the main street bridge. authorities say their cause of death will be determined by an autopsy. in the meantime, crews spent

tuesday trying to right these overturned train cars. several investigations are under way to figure out what happened, but it appears the train's brakes were automatically applied. >> an automatic function of the air brake system in the derailment forces. there was a separation in the air line, which causes the emergency brakes to apply. >> nine ntsb investigators combed through evidence all tuesday afternoon and several were expected to work through the night. >> we are looking at every single aspect of this occurrence, ok? rail, track, witness statements. we're investigating this accident to determine not just what happened but also to try and determine why it happened so that we can make recommendations that will prevent similar incidents from occurring again. >> there are several streets leading up to ellicott city and including a large portion of main street that are still close.

at monroe and wilkins avenue appeared they found a victim that was taken to shock trauma but died. we're learning of the maryland service number killed while serving in afghanistan. david williams of frederick died on saturday. the soldier was assigned to a joint basis lewis accord in washington. this was his first deployment to the region. construction is underway to repair the baltimore basilica. more than 50 cracks in the cathedral because of the earthquake last year. weekend events will continue during the construction work. repairs are expected to be complete in time for easter services next year. >> now insta-weather plus and traffic pulse 11 together. >> good morning. kim dacey checking on your
