by noon, 18 of the 21 damaged cars had been removed. the others had been cleared from the scene. the work is dgerous and tedious because they have to be mindful not to damage civil war history. executives told us that officials will be doing an inspection of downtown to make sure that the historic area will have minimal risk for the future. >> we have sent a person to begin to analyze the safety issues and the accessibility issues. they know that public safety is the first party. >> late breaking word, officials hope to have this line back open by tomorrow. main street is expected to open until this weekend, which has a lot of merchants worried. we will talk at them tonight.

students who were killed in an accident. sheldon dutes joins us from the newsroom. do police have any idea what caused the crash? >> the accident is under investigation but alcohol was not a factor but speeding was. alex and ryan, both seniors, were killed in the accident. a third passenger was rushed to the hospital. alex was driving north around 1:30 this morning. police say he was speeding and could not navigate a curve. that is when he went into the southbound lanes. the car went off the road and hit two utility poles. both of them were pronounced dead at the scene. a third passenger was rushed to the hospital. officials say these boys had promising futures. >> we are a close-knit community.

another 19-year-old is dead in detectives are trying to figure out why. police responded to the shooting and they found the victim. he was suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso. he was taken to shock trauma but died minutes later. no word on a possible suspect. police are investigating a crash between a dump truck and a bad the shutdown two major roads. it happened before 8:00 this morning. troopers tell us two people had to be taken to hospitals. the roads were shut down near a high school. we are still working to learn the victim's identities. authorities have not determined what caused the crash. >> this could be the worst year on record for west nile.

the scene. after locating him in north carolina, police have enough evidence to charge him with first and second-degree murder. police are speaking -- seeking extradition to bring him back to maryland. a woman is facing manslaughter charges in the death of her mother. police say sharon left to the elderly woman on the toilet for two days. it happened in january when medical workers say they found her mother on a toilet at the home they shared. she told officers she knew her mother had been in the bathroom for two days but did not ask for help. 10 days later, she was dead. she is free on bond. >> covering the nation, lawyers for the past the president held a news conference today. they are disputing the report
