[captioning made possible by constellation energy group] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- >> it has been a day full of severe weather. tropical storm isaac hit the florida keys and is moving further into the gulf. it delayed the gop convention. we have more ahead. live look for our downtown sky cam. maryland has seen its share of wild weather today. we have seen a couple of tornado warnings. tom tasselmyer is alive with the latest.

>> we have the weather moving across the area. almost felt like a tropical system. three-6 inches of rain, flooding low-lying areas. many areas in baltimore county and down through anne arundel and calvert county. there were tornado warnings issued. no reports of damage. there is a strong thunderstorm and western carolina county. a tornado warning is in effect for western carolina county intel 6:15. west of denton is a storm system that is showing strong rotation and the possibility or tornado could touchdown and western caroline county in the next hour. if you are on the western side of the county, should be taking shelter now. there could be or tornadoes associated with that thunderstorm to the west of denton. the warning goes until 6:15. a look at our map.

there is a warning in effect for parts of queen anne's, talbot and west of denton. we will check out how much more rain we can expect in the 7 day forecast and a couple minutes. >> the high winds and heavy rain prompted officials to close the maryland state fair today. that is not the only thing being affected. if there is around 6000 power outages reported. we have more on the damage around town this afternoon. >> in the 2300 block of east monument street. the department of public works have been working on this thing called, but now because of the rain it is threatening homes in the area -- the sinkhole. the two residences are on top of businesses. if they had to evacuate them because the road near the sidewalk might be unstable.

a spokesman said they had already been working to repair the sinkhole. the effects of the rain or not just felt in the city. here is a shot of some flooding in pikesville. on the eastern shore, flooding was an issue for some drivers. these are cars driving through hot water on route 50 in easton. in the city drivers had to deal with this obstacle when a downed tree blocked the road. no injuries have been reported. if he snapped and pictures of this afternoon's weather event, we would love to see them. head to our website at wbaltv.com and click on ulocal. >> thank you. right now, the gulf coast breaking for -- bracing for isaac. cities like new orleans are preparing for a category two hurricane when it has later this week.

police are not releasing any other information. learn the name of the man shot by police earlier this weekend. if his name is oba mitchner. chris responded to a call about shots fired in the -- of in westport. the man was firing his handgun when police arrived. he engaged officers and that was when they shot him. charges are pending. a man many consider to be a pioneer in canton has died. 49-year-old patrick skunny --- was killed when a bicycle collided with a city bus. happened friday night on ocean city. the circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation. back in 1994, he helped to revitalize the canton community with the opening of a mexican restaurant. the success of that restaurant would spawn mama's on the

>> now your 11 insta-weather- plus forecast with tom tasselmyer. >> better news from the weather department. the national weather service canceled the tornado warning in western carolina county. this area was drawing strong circulation. has weakened. some gusty winds, some hail and downpours to contend with. it is part of an area of showers and storms coming from the south. occasionally we see an individual cell and that is when the weather service issues a tornado warning. if we switch our view to the

warning that, there are no warnings in effect at this time. that is the good news. the severity of the storm is weakening, but we are picking up on heavy downpours. this stripe, orange and red, this is an area of 3-6 inches of rain. my microphone may be dying. can you hear me? a 3-6 inch slice of rain in this area. over 6 inches in parts of the eastern shore. heavy rainfall since midnight. in those areas, flood warnings remained in effect for baltimore county on to the eastern shore. be very careful if you live near a small stream. do not drive on a flooded road. at the airport, over 3 inches of rain today. that takes the monthly total to 5.5 inches. a surplus for august. we are running a deficit for the year. that is a very soggy day.

it is a record amount of rain for the 26 of august in baltimore. with all of the clouds and showers, we did not even hit 80 today. 79 the high. 68 at parkton. 70 in westminster. will stay steady through the evening. the storm developed over the carolinas and moved into western virginia. it is bringing that band of moisture into the eastern maryland. this is going to stick around until cold front to get through here tomorrow night or tuesday morning and kick all of this out to sea. in the meantime, isaac will be coming up from the gulf of mexico. that could complicate the forecast towards the end of the week. tomorrow, some breaks in the clouds and showers. after that, we should be able to enjoy sunshine for the middle of the week. tonight, a chance for showers or storms. tomorrow we get some sunshine, but a chance for a thunderstorm

in spots with partly cloudy skies. it will be warmer tomorrow, high-tech bichirs a 82-87. out on the bay, a brisk south wind at 10-15 knots. 44 miles an hour winds in key west. there is isaac. this will move across areas of the gulf where it will be strengthened. it could be a category two hurricane, between mobile alabama and new orleans by late tuesday night or wednesday morning. that seems slow. i would not be surprised if it gets here quicker. some of the computer models are targeting the panhandle and florida. it looks like it will get stronger and become a hurricane as it has for the gulf coast. a 30% chance of a shower or thunderstorm tore. that tapers off tuesday morning. we look forward to some nice whether when sick, thursday and friday. will have to see where is it goes. >> lots of cuts for the ravens
