>> i looked around and i saw the gun and we jumped under a table. someone got shot, and it was really horrifying. >> a day supposed to be filled with new faces, new classes, and new memories was rocked by terrifying tragedy. police say ace didn't open fire on another, plunging the first of school into absolute chaos -- police say ace didn't opened fire -- a student open fire. >> around 10:55 this morning, a 15-year-old student walked into the perry high school cafeteria and open fire. we have team coverage of the perry hall shooting. our reporters have more on the shooter and the intense emotions that students and parents and teachers are undergoing.

david collins has more. >> there are still lot of unanswered questions. for example, what is the motive, and where did the gun come from? according to sources, the share brought a shot gun to school in pieces he secured in a backpack -- the student brought a shot gun to school in pieces. >> i see this kid come out of the bathroom with a bright green shirt on, long black hair. he had something under his shirt. all of a sudden you hear the gunshots go off in the cafeteria. >> the share is believed to be a sophomore at perry hall high. he walked into the cafeteria, brandished a firearm, and fired a shot that hit a fellow student. he is believed to be a special needs students. >> it was a random actng.

>> investigators say the gunman was subdued almost immediately after firing the first shot. >> as the individual began to pull back from the shooting several inches, an instructor grab him. they began to grapple and a second shot was discharged. >> according to a source with direct knowledge of the police investigation, the suspect brought a shot gun to school in pieces secured in a backpack. perry hall high school teacher said the person who interrupted the shooting is a guidance counselor and identified as jesse wasmer. >> he was able to subdue the gunmen and get him against a vending machine so that no one else got hurt. >> according to those familiar with the shooter, they say he was 14 or 15 years old. this didn't allegedly had an

altercation with one or more students that involve throwing food. he left the cafeteria and came back around 10:15 with a gun. >> i hoped that baltimore county would be immune from this type of activity, but apparently we are not. >> just minutes ago, baltimore county police finished processing the crime scene. district officials at perry hall high school will be open tomorrow. david collins, wbal-tv 11 news. >> we are getting a clearer picture of the teenager allegedly behind today's attack. jayne miller joins us live now with the latest. >> several sources have provided us with the name of the suspect. he's 15 years old, just turned 15 a few weeks ago at the beginning of august. he lives with his mother on this secluded street north of white

marsh, a very secluded area surrounded mostly by trees. we are not identifying him because he has not been charged. this is what brinks visitors to that the teen-rolle suspect's home. it has a sign that says "we do not call 911." an adult male who had been inside that house was taken into custody. the suspect in the shooting broke on his facebook page, "first day ups cool, last day of my life reject first day of school, last day of michael." -- last day of my life." according to court records, the

parents divorced in 2010. according to court records, the house was raided in 2010, seizing marijuana and a shotgun. the shotgun was later destroyed. it was not the one used today. just to reiterate what david collins said a few minutes ago, sources tell us that the shotgun was in part so that would fit into a backpack. as bad as this was today, sources say could have been worse. he apparently was carrying 20 rounds of ammunition. jayne mler, wbal-tv 11 news. >> you can imagine the second the news spread of the shooting at perry hall, parents rushed to the school to reunite with their children. >> the haunting memories will replace any excitement for a new school year.

>> lowell melser spoke with some of the families. >> this was the scene out here earlier today. all along ebenezer road, this street was lined with cars and panicked parents running down it cord perry hall high school. to my left here, we spoke earlier with some of the parents and kids that are coming out of the school, some who witnessed what happened. a very traumatic scene. >> how do you send an ninth grader back to school in the first day of school there was a shooting? >> i don't want to go back. >> we were in class and mr. arnold came of the intercom and said code red, and he was not joking. we are all scared. they made us go in the quarter and crouched down. we had to sit there for probably close to an hour and be quiet. no one knew what was going on.

a couple of my friends heard a gunshot, and that was scary. once the cops came in to let us go, they were all dressed up in their uniforms and they had automatic guns and everything. it was weird. >> first i heard a pop. i thought it was a prank, then i looked around and saw the gun. we jumped under a table. someone got shot, and it was really horrifying. we were told to leave, so we ran out. >> i cannot reach my daughter. there's no service in the building for phones. >> i have been here at least an hour, walking up and down the street, trying to find -- they were letting the classes go a little bit at a time. there was not a whole lot i could do except keep a lookout

counselor here at the school, being hailed as a hero. >> this was not just the first day of school, it also happen to be the first day on the job for baltimore county superintendent dr. dallas dance. tim tooten has been speaking with the faculty and staff. how are they handling the situation? >> dr. vance, his first day on the job, and quite a first day it was for him. he spoke to us a little while ago in a press conference. he said that extra police will be on campus tomorrow and that perry hall will open with extra staff when students return. of course, a lot of praise for school staff. the school guidance counselor we have all been talking about, who pinned that suspect against a vending machines. it was an act of bravery that did not go unnoticed by superintendent dallas dance.

stretching from upstate new york to western pennsylvania, eastern ohio, and moving toward western maryland as we speak. that is liable to reach us overnight and early tomorrow morning. the total for the month is by 0.79 inches, almost 3 inches above normal. it went from a deficit to surplus just like that. still below normal for the year by about 5 inches. the eastern shore got drenched yester day as well, part of the driest regions of the state. 84 is the average high for today, 87 is what we actually measured. nowhere near by high and 1948 when it hit 102 degrees. chur to the north and west of us behind the front that is moving in from the north and west, picking up the showers. once we get past that, the weather will be beautiful here.

high pressure from canada will bring us some superb summer weather. this area of high pressure will block isaac from immediately coming our way. right now it looks like isaac will hit the central gulf coast. we will be protected from high- pressure at least up until about labor day weekend, and then we will have to see what happens. as the high pressure strengthens, you can see what we can expect, clear, comfortable- to take us through the work week. showers briefly late tonight and tomorrow morning, and then it will turn sunny tomorrow afternoon. a 84-89 degrees tomorrow, but the northwest breeze brings in lower humidity and it will start to feel really comfortable late in the afternoon. they water temperatures around 80. if isaac bothers us, it will be

much later in the uighur may be over the weekend. it is getting stronger. the latest reports from the national hurricane center have the winds sustained at 70. you can see this belief in the middle of the gulf of mexico, just reporting a wind gust of 65 miles an hour. it is right on the edge of becoming a hurricane. 74 mile an hour winds would be a hurricane. just west of biloxi looks like the favorite track. it may become a category 2 hurricane by the time it gets up to new orleans played tomorrow night or early wednesday morning. then it will curb up into the ohio valley, bringing some beneficial rains and maybe some wet weather here. 86 tomorrow, cooler and more comfortable wednesday through friday. depending on is it, we could have some wet weather for labor day. -- depending on isaac.

>> the week begins with of bob raiders getting their roster trimmed to 75 players. then that will cut it down to 53 players. terrell suggs was put on the physically unable to perform list. that means he cannot play for at least the first six games of the season, but it does not eliminate his season. the ravens to hold out hopes that he could return later this season after his achilles' tendon fully healed. on friday and have to reduce the roster to the regular season size of 53. suggs does not count against the roster number while he remains on the physically unable to perform list. the orioles faced the hottest team in the american league, the chicago white sox. shen has won four out of his

morning, pulled out a gun, and managed to fire a couple of shots. sources tell us the gun was a shotgun. we are told that a 17-year-old male was wounded. he is currently in critical condition at shock trauma. teachers were able to grab this didn't and wrestle him to the ground. perry hall will resume classes in the morning -- teachers are able to grab the student. >> it was almost like a tropical system hit us last night. they are really looking at some rough weather on the gulf coast. it looks like late tomorrow night, early wednesday morning it will slam into the gulf coast. the winds are up to 70. does look like some rough weather there on the gulf coast. we will have some nice weather here once the front goes by tomorrow morning. are we can depend on the remnants of isaac. >> thanks for joining us, everybody.
