here within the next couple of hours after a dramatic first day of school yesterday. school officials and police admit this could have been a lot worse off if not for the quick action of the staff, including the guidance counselor who stopped the shooter. >> you do not see this in real life. >> students at the high school were eating lunch at the cafeteria around 10:45 when police say one other schoolmates fired off two gunshots. >> a young man who we identified as a student entered the cafeteria where he removed from concealment a weapon that brought into the school building. >> i got up, i grabbed my stuff, and i ran out. i did not know what it was. >> a 17-year-old special needs a student was injured in the shooting, but please do not think the boy was targeted.

officials have not commented on the motive. he acted alone. he has not been charged, so we're not identify him by name. on his facebook page, he uses the name, suicidal smile. his last update said first day of school, last day of my life. his parents divorced two years ago. his father told the associated press that his son was bullied and friends of the family agreed. >> hung out when we are younger. neighbors. they're real nice people. always good people. >> students were evacuated and dismissed early. today, they must come back and start the new year all over again >> how do send a ninth career back-to-school? -- a ninth grader back to

school? >> if we are horrified, we did not see this coming, and our thoughts are paris -- our thoughts and prayers are with the families. >> we continue our team coverage now. how has the community reacted to this shooting? >> it has been interesting for students, a specialist so closely after the colorado shooting. they had information overload. last night's, students and parents and community members gathered to lead absorber and sink in. they gathered at the evangelical lutheran church to pray for the shooting victim. some expressed concern about going back to school today, but others are looking forward to some sense of normalcy.

into the upper 80's. let me give you an update on isaac. the latest satellite injury -- here. that is splitting hairs. it does have some coming out of the topside of it. that may change before it comes on the coast. most of the computer model, still taking up for new orleans. some take it less new orleans, some take the eye to the east. this is important because the storm surge, the flood that comes with this, on the east side, so if it passes to the left of new orleans, if it goes to the east it will be not quite as bad. if you go to the gulf coast region, it will come on shore and cause tremendous amounts of

flooding, i think, down to the south. there will pick up anywhere from 10 to 20 inches of rain. here at home, some rain showers possible early this morning. i think the sunshine will break out early today. the high temperature right around 80 degrees. it is very nice for us. the overnight low temperatures will probably dip into the fifties. the 84 with sunshine, wednesday, thursday, friday, and then over the weekend, it goes to isaac. unfortunately, we will be impacted by the storm. >> hotels are posed to break-in $10 billion in surcharges and fees. the number of hotels charging

if you're heading out in the next few minutes, monument street closed at patterson park. this is due to the sinkhole that needs to be repaired again. those closures are in a factor in the advance of the grand prix. also watch for closures and the latest on the grand prix. here is a look at drive time. same thing on the west side. from the 95 merged down to the harbor tunnel toll. here is a live look outside. showing building volume as a normal, and that southbound direction. we can switch over to a life you just north of the exit. so far, moving very well. we will keep you posted and see how this rain affects things this morning.

multiple sources tell a 11 news that a 17-year-old special needs student was injured in the shooting. police to not think the boy was targeted by the suspect. to say that he acted alone and brought this up -- brought the gun to school in his he looked back, along with 20 rounds of ammunition. he has not been charged, so we're not identify him buying name. on his facebook page, he uses the name, a suicidal smile. off his last post said, first day of school, last day of my life. friends of the family said he was very smart and bullied very often. >> if we hung out when he was younger, neighbors. always good people. >> a woman who was not related to the teenager issued a statement on behalf of the family that said, we are horrified. we did not see this coming off

analysts say that momentarily. is it is technically still a tropical storm as of the 5:00 a.m. advisory. we're splitting hairs there. a hurricane is 74. is basically a category one hurricane. still a couple miles off of the coast. this is very important. right on the eastern side, that is where most of the storm surge takes place. if the ideas as to the left of the new orleans, all those areas below sea level will get that huge storm surge. it is important that eye comes onshore. it looks like that will happen later this afternoon and into the evening. here at home, some scattered, light rain showers this morning. i think the sunshine will break through the clouds. probably partly cloudy later on today. temperatures around 87 degrees.
