school officials and police admit this could have been a lot worse if not for the quick action of the staff here, including the guidance counselor who stopped the shooter. >> this is d.c. on the news. you cannot see it in real life. >> students were eating lunch in the cafeteria around 10:45 when police say one of her schoolmates fired off his gun shots. >> a young man who identified as a student at entered the cafeteria. if he revealed a weapon he had concealed. >> i heard it, i got up, i ran out. i didn't know what it was. >> the victim, a 17-year-old special needs students. police did nothing the boy was targeted. officials have not commented on the suspect's motive the day he acted alone. the alleged shooter has not been

charged so we're not identify him by name. on the facebook page, he uses the name, suicidal smile. his of days before school said, first day of school, last day of my life. his parents divorced two years ago. his father told the associated press that his son was bullied and friends of the family agreed. >> hung out when we were younger. neighbors. >> they're all real nice people. always good people. >> students were evacuated. they came back to start the new year all over again. >> how do you send a ninth grader back to school? >> a woman who is not related to the suspect issued a statement on the family's behalf, saying, we are horrified. we did not see thisnd prayers ae with the victim and the victim's

today. as you know, just a little bit of rain. give yourself a couple extra minutes. here is an update on traffic. you can see almost the beginning of what looks like an eye developing here. that is why it is still a tropical storm. only 70 miles per hour. it will probably become a hurricane of the next couple of hours. you can see that starting to show up there. i bet on the next advisory day updated to a hurricane. this is a various spot on the computer models. it is very important. as you know, the eastern side of the storm, that is were all the storm surge goes. if the storm goes just to the west of new orleans, the ones below sea level will get that

gunshots. multiple sources tell all of the news that a 17-year-ago special needs to was injured in the shooting. police do not think the boy was targeted by the suspect. officials have not commented on the suspect's motive but said he acted alone and brought the gun to school disassembled in his book bag along with 20 rounds of ammunition. the alleged shooter has not been charged so they're not identify him by name. on his facebook page, uses the name, suicidal smile. his last post said, first day of school, last of my life. the family told people that the teenager was very smart and bullied. >> we were neighbors. always good people. >> a woman who was not related to the suspect issued a statement on the family's behalf saying, we are horrified. we did not see this coming. our thoughts and prayers are

>> welcome back to a 11 news today. the headlines this morning, baltimore city police are investigating a carjacking that ended in gunfire. the victim tells police said two men entered the car at gunpoint. that was just after 7:30 last night. he managed to escape the carjackers, but not before being shot in the lake. the baltimore mayor has picked a new top cop. officials of the mayor's office tel 11 news that the police chief of former long beach will take the job, but he retired earlier this month. his first day in baltimore will be september 27. he is expected to introduce the new commissioner later today. we'll speak with him on 11 news today. his first live news tomorrow morning.

to form their. it will probably become a hurricane. it still looks like it will come on shore. unfortunately, some are round of new orleans tonight. the exact track of that eye is very important. if it comes in just west of new orleans, all of those areas that are below sea level will get a storm surge. a chance for some rain showers early this morning. i think it will clear out as we had to the afternoon. the high temperature right around 87 degrees. of the forecast, very nice. if the humidity will be gone. probably dip into the 50's. not bad at all. as we head into the weekend, if it is left of isaac is in maryland, it looks like it will be on sunday and monday. we want to see what happens after the storm comes onshore. back to you guys.
