we spoke to local red cross volunteers. we will also have the latest on the impact on the devastated regions. >> this storm is still pounding that a gulf coast area. it is showing signs of weakening. the east side from new orleans over towards mississippi, still getting pounded. that storm is inland, but the winds are gusting over 60 miles per hour. on that track, it is going to move into drought parched areas. some areas in the midwest will get much-needed rain. look at the turn to the east. that is as we're getting into our labor day weekend. we stand a chance of having a little bit of wet weather over the labor day weekend.

>> here is some of the latest headlines. at least one death in louisiana is being attributed to the storm. the mayor of new orleans has ordered a dusk to dawn curfew to prevent looting. we continue the team coverag from the big easy. >> it has been more than 24 hours a driving rain and violent wind. isaac shows so no signs -- shows no signs of ending. >> in many communities, water over topped the levees, survivors already dealing with more than they can handle. >> it is really bad. >> in some areas, more than a foot of rain has left standing water.

downed trees and power lines left more than 700,000 in louisiana alone without electricity. for many, it may be a week or more before it is restored. in many areas, and there are clear signs it will be difficult to get a round. roadways, neighborhoods solid by floodwaters. forcing rescue teams to pull survivors out by boat. >> it was almost halfway up the steps. it was quick. >> they just want isaac to go away. forecasters and first responders warned that this is far from over. isaac is not going anywhere fast. the storm will likely winner in louisiana until at least the weekend. -- linger in louisiana until at

least the weekend. >> dozens of people had to be rescued from their homes. >> we tried to leave, but then we didn't, because we had nowhere to go. we were trying to leave, trying to drive in the car, but you could not see. >> to help comfort residents, red cross volunteers throughout the country are moving into the gulf coast. nearly two dozen from maryland alone. we caught up with two women you know this type of devastation all too well. >> she knows how to pack for a trip like this.

she has been through it before. the red cross volunteer travel to louisiana when hurricane katrina ravaged people's homes and destroyed the lives. >> one on top of the other, it was all flow. there were many times, i cried. >> she and her fellow volunteer and a nurse are chattering -- traveling together back to the gulf coast. >> pat, go, you do not know where you're going to be assigned. >> you have to worry about the food, the water. everything that a person would need in a shelter. >> both women spent weeks assisting in shelters during

katrina, providing food and medical care. they will find out exactly where they will be assigned once they land in texas and join 20 other volunteers. the red cross has 290,000 meals ready to go and emergency response vehicles packed with supplies. >> if we can just get them aid, get the kids just to make them feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. >> my goal is to make a difference in somebody's life. >> we are ready to go. >> the whole extent of the damage will not be known for some time now, the storm is already having a far-reaching effect in other areas.

you can see were a lot of those [inaudible] you will not be able to zip through downtown like these drivers on your way to work tomorrow. >> we're expecting the peak travel times to be in the morning and evening. >> starting tomorrow, there will be several daytime road closures that could create headaches for drivers. >> we want folks to plan ahead, make sure you know the road closures. the commute may be a little congested, so your travel be a little challenging. >> you may want to find an alternate route from the east, west, or north. divers and not the only ones worried about the road closures. several downtown businesses are also concerned. they did not want to get stuck in any potential traffic jams.

>> high temperatures today were still little bit above the average today. tomorrow will be about perfect as far as summer weather conditions go. the record high for this day is in the triple digit level, 100 degrees back in 1953. starting to cool off ltle t in the suburbs, especially to the west of baltimore. already down in a low 60's. some of those western suburbs will be in the upper 50's by morning. clear skies, beautiful overnight. high-pressure to the north of us will repeat this kind of weather for the day tomorrow and most of friday. right now, it is blocking isaac, at the doral be open and the remnants of it will be able to move end. this will take a long way around before it occurs in our direction.

we have a few more days to enjoy before we have to deal with the remnants of this. you can still see tropical storm forced wind gusts come up over 40 miles per hour. 45 mile per hour wind gusts out of the gulf coast. this is all drifting very slowly up towards latin roots. -- baton rouge. these are stripes of very heavy rain. the west side did not did as much rain, but that is drifting in this general direction. the forecast track takes it up into areas that actually need the rain as a tropical depression. and then it starts to occur in our direction. the center of that will still be out over ohio, the moisture will be screening out across the mountains.

the winds are sustained at 60, it will be a weaker system as it arrives. enjoy tomorrow and friday. we're looking at a lot of sunshine. we get into the weekend, look at that moisture coming across the mountains. saturday night, especially sunday and monday, the rain chances will move up again. 82-87 tomorrow. high temperatures in the 70's. chilly in the morning tomorrow, 40's in many of the valleys. showers will given to the mountains saturday and sunday. eastern shore, 84 tomorrow. 90 on friday. sunny skies for a couple of days and most of saturday looks nice. our seven-day forecast, summer whether to perfection tomorrow. 91 on friday.
