help areas. the grand prix is expected to draw tens of thousands of spectators, businesses are concerned that folks will not braved downtown baltimore. >> as a business here in harbor east, we are definitely a little concerned with people coming in. last year it was very slow. there wasn't very much foot traffic or people patronizing the restaurant. >> in just a little while ago, the general manager stopped by to say hello. a little treated with pratt street shut down. people think road) and optional. a police officer was shaking his head. he thought there were enough signs posted the people knew where they were supposed to go and hopefully it would make things run much more smoothly

built. this is a live look at traffic on paca and pratt street. traffic not having trouble making its way heading east on pratt street. many more road closures go into effect and that will have an effect on downtown drivers. make your plans now because no one will be zipping around downtown baltimore like this today. >> we're expecting the peak travel times to be in the morning and the evening for tomorrow. >> over the past few weeks, crews have taken advantage of night time road closures to get the track set up for the race. but starting today, there will be several daytime road closures. that means parts of pratt street, light street, conway, even russell will all be closed. so you may want to find an alternate route from the east, west, or north. >> from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., the racetrack itself will be buttoned up. pedestrians can get across but no cars. in the evening, though, charles street opens up for north-south

traffic. so the whole federal hill area will be available for people to come up and down charles street. >> drivers aren't the only ones worried about the road closures. several downtown businesses are also concerned based on last year that folks will be too intimidated by the road closures to come down. >> as a business here in harbor east, we are definitely a little concerned with people coming in. last year it was very slow. there wasn't very much foot traffic or people patronizing the restaurant. >> this is a look at one of the grand prix centers. we have an ambulance that is coming up north on paca streets. one problem is the ability for drivers to move over. we have had a few moments where our heart has gone like this and we said, please do not do this. pedestrians have been walking across the street and trying to get over towards the hilton

we are keeping tabs on how the closures in the city will impact your morning rush. not having a major impact now. you may find some delays in ellicott city because of an accident. one in the city involving a motorcycle at hilton street. some slowing on the northwest corner of the beltway down towards liberty. southbound 395 is closed because of the grand prix. pratt street is shutdown near paca street. more closures on our website. here's a quick, live look at traffic. this is 95 at 395. watch for the delays because of the grand prix. this is traffic on 95 south of the beltway. starting to build as the delays fall into place. that is the latest on traffic

>> good morning. even more road closures in effect today appeared we're on a section of pratt struck which is shut down between green and paca. so far traffic seems pretty light for this time of the morning. a lot of the gridlock we saw yesterday happened around 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. russell street will be shut down tonight for the weekend. you'll find between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., some of those closures will last all day long. racing officials hoping to open up charles street to traffic during the nighttime hours. they want people to come down to downtown baltimore. a full list of st. closures on

general manager dan joerres. >> traditionally, the first day of school signals a new beginning with great anticipation for the school year. unfortunately, that was not the case for perry hall high school. on monday, a 17-year-old student was shot and critically injured in the school cafeteria, and police have charged a 15- year-old classmate. immediate heroic action by a guidance counselor who subdued the 15-year-old boy prevented further carnage as panicked students evacuated the building. it appeared the school's emergency evacuation plan worked, and now the healing begins for both the victim and the student body. increased security and counseling have been provided for students and staff. perry hall has a reputation as a top-performing school, and officials said they will continue to concentrate on that goal as they share concern for both the victim and the suspect. having the first week of school end with a 15-year-old student charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault is certainly not on the agenda for the school or the new superintendent, dallas dance -- but now, it's the reality. one lesson for adults is that while gun ownership is a right,
