this morning on "today's" health we are answering the medical questions you may be too embarrassed to ask your doctor. good thing we have dr. carrie peterson here, an internist, contributor to women's "health" magazine. mostly for our purposes today

she's seen it all. >> i have. >> when you go to your doctor, you should ask everybody, you should ask these questions. she doesn't care. >> she's seen everything. please be open. >> let's get to the first question. it says i have eczema on my arms. it's extremely noticeable when i wear shirts. what can i do to make it go away. >> it's common. if you are the suffer remember, it can be embarrassing. let me talk about what eczema is. it's a chronic skin inflammation that causes scaly red patches. it commonly occurs on your arms but can occur anywhere on the body. it tends to flair so it can come and go. we're not clear what causes it. it's a genetic basis from a faulty immune system. there's no cure for it. so we do try to avoid things that can trigger it. >> can you treat it, soothe it. >> first, prevent it. prevent it, avoid things that trigger it like rough fabrics, heat, detergents. if you're someone that wants to

treat it and get rid of it. try a hydrocortisone cream for about a week. for many people that's enough. if it's not enough and you're itching, go to the doctor. they will probably recommend an antihistamine. >> the next question from viewers, i know it's hot outside. what would cause me to excessively sweat indoors. >> if you're sweating inside with air conditioning, clearly that's not normal. what's probably going on is hyperhidrosis. this affects 3% of the population. it's very common and very, very embarrassing. it's caused by an overactive sympathetic nervous system. that's a mouthful. basically if you think of the sweat glands like a little turkey baster, the muscles squeeze and sweat comes out. the way you treat it initially,

try conservative measure, breathable fabrics like cotton, avoid synthetic, a clinical strength antiperspirant, over the counter. if those do not work, see your doctor. there's many options available such as medication and prescription antiperspirant. >> last question people want to know about. is it dangerous to get a bikini wax. >> that's a good one. dangerous, no, but there are potential complications. one when the wax pulls the skin, you can get tears on the skin. that compromises integrity of it so bacteria can get in there and inflamed and in effect hair follicles. another thing, ingrown hairs. if it doesn't pull out by the root, you can get stubble, invert and cause an ingrown hair. also burns. that wax is very hot. we do have recommendations from viewers from women's health for when you're choosing a facility. you want to make sure it's clean. you want to make sure the

it's official, the jersey shore is washed up. on thursday mtv informed the cast of the reality show the season they just finished shooting will be their last.
