>> thank you. the details tonight in the case of a high school shooting. the suspected gunman, robert gladden, has been indicted a related to the shooting of a classmate. prosecutors say that among those accounts are nine counts of attempted murder. he has been charged as an adult. he is accused of bringing a gun to school in a book bag and opening fire in the cafeteria, striking a 17-year-old in the process. he has been upgraded from critical to serious condition. it has been one week and one day since the chaotic first day of class. officials say they are trying to move forward. tim two is live where he hadn't conversation with the principle.

surge in violence. >> 10 people have been sought and four -- shot and four of them have been killed. >> we have counted half a dozen shootings ending just after 3:00 this morning. most of them in the eastern section of the city. thes get to bury sims in city headquarters. residents and officials are concerned about this recent uptick in violence. >> they are. we talked to police a while ago when they do not believe there is any connection in the cases. they tell us there was a shooting and that involved in other crime. the victim tried to stop a robbery. they say that some of the other cases involved in drugs. bullets fly in the 27 a -- 27 and for block. >> officers responded to the scene and they found the mail. suffering from one gunshot wound to his body.

>> the man is rushed to the hospital but does not survive. gunfire claims his life in the lives of three others. along with investigating the murder, police are seeking answers in a dull shooting on that south eaton street. another fatal where the 25-year- old victim died from a wound to the head. >> i heard the glass break and i am standing here. >> use those -- she shows how she was trying to lock the door. she was barely missed. many shots were fired at the intersection. >> after i heard a number of people screaming, i assumed one plus one equals two. >> the girl, with meat on the sidewalk, utensils cost to the ground as people began to flee.

a 19 year-old man is dead. two other people are recovering after being hit by cars as they try to get away from the bullets. she says she knew the young man was killed. >> i do not know why somebody would do this. >> another friend decided to start and a memorial. he does not understand the violence. >> be careful wherever you go. you are still in baltimore city. they're trying to keep the crime down. i do not know. some people do not get it. >> after some -- police say that the homicide and criminal investigations are working jointly and there will be an increased presence of police officers in the east, southeast, and northeast sections of baltimore.

>> muggy weather is generating the storms and showers. the pattern will hold for another couple of days. a shower has popped up out of anne arundel county. that will strike through the downtown baltimore area in the next 30 minutes on its way to the north. there are other shadows around -- showers around. in southern pennsylvania, some lightning strikes there. also in the eastern part of the northern delaware, those locations not a direct threat to baltimore but we will see showers throughout the evening and probably during the overnight. most of this week we will have to contend with warm conditions. you can check the complete forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> opening night in north

carolina as democrats kick off their national convention. the proceedings were called to order in the last few minutes. we have team coverage with steve handelsman. let's get things started. >> good afternoon from charlotte, north carolina, the democratic national convention, where the effort begins to try to fire up democratic voters and independence. despite the lack of fire reported today in the economy. on his way to the convention president obama into a rally. he did not mention today's bad economic news. factory activity down for a third straight month. construction spending is down. more needs to be done. >> on thursday night that will offer what i believe is a better path forward. creating jobs, good jobs. >> and obama goal is to get voter groups we-fired up and

homes. police are identifying the men involved as justin and carl. jury deliberations are under way in the two man accused of a holiday season murder. frank williams and william are charged in the shooting death of rodney outside of the mall in december of last year. one of the most shocking developments, testimony that alleges they were members of the black guerrilla family game. deliberations got started this afternoon. we will bring you any late breaking developments. >> in tonight's medical alerts, millions of americans have high blood pressure that is not under control. that is true for about half of the 67 million american adults who have hypertension and with the cost of blood -- but pressure at $130 million, that

statistic has worried cardiologists because that is the same number 20 years ago. it is a major red flag and doctors say patients must be more aggressive about getting their blood pressure down to a healthy level. a baby with a fever with 106 would frighten any parent. that is what happened to someone who had been bitten by mosquitoes and tested positive for west nile by this. we spoke with the parents as she recovered. >> he likes to play and run, she is running back and forth. >> she is full of energy but a few weeks ago she was not running around the living room and not feeling well. >> i picked her up and she felt like she was on fire. i took her temperature and she had 106.1.

>> her parents took her to the doctor. >> she had a couple of mosquito bites on her face. when we were in there, maybe she had west nile virus. >> it turns out she tested positive. that is not what made her sick. doctors said she had had it at some point but this fever was a result of a different virus. >> even though she had -- did not have a comment she did have it in the past. >> it was shocking to know that she had it and had gone through it. >> they do not know when she got it. >> we expected for us to have realized that but she never had any symptoms. >> we will continue to say -- take the same precautions, and they have a message for parents. >> we did not even know she had

philadelphia area. these will be in our region into the early morning. cannot rule out a passing shower. we are entrenched in a tropical air my -- air mass. 86 at the airport. 86 at chris field and feeling like the summer with the humidity. those numbers are way up in the 70's. 75 at the naval academy. that is a measure of how much moisture is in the atmosphere. it will be monday overnight. overnight lows of 67-75. the remnants of isaac push this into the a atlantic and it is slow to be pushed out of here. we'll have to wait for the next front to clear things out and we will enhance their chances for thunders and storms and we'll have to dodge a couple of showers. 84-89 tomorrow.

larella amos was in the front yard of a house party early saturday morning when she was shot and killed. >> she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. her family and friends are gathering and asking to remember her. children do has -- sheldon dutes joins us with the details. >> she graduated in 2008 and this is worth 200 people are expected to gather for a candlelight vigil to celebrate her life and to comfort each other. we have learned a lot about this woman. the 22-year-old was engaged to be married. the phone and she says that she was loved by those who knew her. her death this senseless and she was not the intended target of the bullet that hit her. she was walking home from a family get together around 2:00

morning. police say 10 people were shot starting around 11 o'clock 45 yesterday morning. -- 11:45 yesterday morning. at this hour, details are sketchy but we know what happened on fifth avenue just after 10:30 sunday. officers were called to the scene around that time to investigate the shooting and that is when they found the man inside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. he was taken to shock trauma. martin o'malley takes the national spotlight tonight. the governor is among the headliners opening the convention. he and the delegation are gearing up for the convention in north carolina and you can catch the speech tonight at 10:00 right here on wbal tv 11.

>> some 800 firefighters are battling this blaze east of los angeles. you can see the flames from above burning overnight. five firefighters have suffered minor injuries and is boiled to hiking plans for thousands. inclines and heat are making about a more difficult. firefighters say the acreage did not increase over night and is still at 3,600 acres. >> nearly 50 cows have been stolen from a farm in massachusetts.

it has been holding together well. no lightning but there are some strikes around philadelphia, an indication of the instability. we might see a thunderstorms across central maryland during the evening. so far, a trace of precipitation. we have had about a third of an inch. there have been areas in and around the region that have had 2.5 inches of rain. this is not necessarily indicative of the region. it is just this location. for the year, we are 5.5 inches below normal. the high today almost to the 90 mark. 89 at the airport. the average is 82. 90 right now in downtown baltimore. the eastern shore. it is a very muddy out there. it will stay warm overnight.

the potential for a scattered showers through the night at any time and a little patchy fog will likely form during the overnight hours. tropical moisture into the mid- atlantic and it is slow to get out of here. we will hoping we can kick some of this stuff out of here. it will take a couple of days for the front to get here and it will enhance their chances for showers and storms. winded 5-10. on the day tomorrow, keep an eye on the sky. the wind will be brisk out of the south, especially during the first part of the day. the western maryland mountains, a chance for a shower on tuesday and wednesday. highs within a couple of degrees of 80. on the eastern shore, near 90 degrees. and down on the eastern shore, including ocean city, high temperatures in the 80's. a couple of systems to watch.

the biggest one is leslie which will become a hurricane toward hamilton, bermuda by sunday afternoon with 100 mile an hour winds. that is a threat to bermuda. right now it is a tropical storm at 3 miles an hour but expected to accelerate. and tropical storm michael form today and it will not get near any major land areas. the seven day forecast, temperatures are warm. the humidity levels stay high, around 90. some thunderstorms. the weekend is warm with showers and grievance football returns next monday. -- ravens football returns next monday. >> skyrocketing food prices have officials with three agencies urging leaders to take coordinated action. the concern is we are headed

toward a catastrophe akin to that of 2007. coble alarm has escalated as droughts in the u.s. have sent grain prices to record highs. now the agencies are demanding that leaders tackled the immediate issue of high prices as well as the long-term issue of how food is produced and consumed. officials say the wait for september's report before deciding to take action on the issue. if you want to save some money and still get fresh produce from near farmers' market, we have some tips from you. you need to go early. that is when you will find the best selection, which is important if you want something in season. if you go toward the end of the day, that is when farmers give discounts. the more often you buy from a farmer, the better your chances of getting the deal. >> i think you get a better deal here than at a supermarket.
