live at police headquarters in towson. >> baltimore county executive kevin kamenetz issuing an order to police to beef up school resource officers at schools all over the county. he will also be issuing those officers metal detecting wands to be used only in suspicious situations. in the meantime, police are trying to figure out how the 13- year-old male suspect got the gun. they are praising his teacher for her bravery. another scare involving a loaded gun at a baltimore county school. this time it was stemmers run middle school. police said tuesday morning in eighth grade, 13-year-old boy entered the school armed with a hunting knife and a 25 semiautomatic pistol, very similar to this one, as shown by police. >> this weapon is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand,

as large as the self on you have in your pocket right now. >> police say he entered -- at about 9:50 a.m., the student pulled out the gun in the classroom. at the end of the class, he produced the weapon, he first pointed it at his teacher and his classmates, then took the weapon and pointed it at himself. the students in the class began to flee the classroom. >> as the chaos unfolded, the teacher, who police only identified as a female, wrestled with the student and got the gun away. >> the gun fell to the floor. the educator continue to restrain the young man, and then summoned help with a hand-held radio issued to all teachers in baltimore county schools. correct the student was taken into custody and the school placed on temporary lockdown.

school in county administrators are praising the teacher for putting her life on the line and protecting her students, and helping to avoid a tragedy. >> they do not think of their personal safety first, they think of the safety of the students. again, one of the teachers acted heroically. >> the suspect has been charged as a minor, so his name is not being released. police also say if the gun was not properly locked, the adult honor will be charged. coming up it 6:00, school superintendent dallas dance said he has plans to revamp the security situation in baltimore county schools. we will take a closer look. live in towson, lowell melser, wbal-tv 11 news. >> now let's go to education reporter tim tooten who has been talking to parents and kids. one of them is an eyewitness. >> the school is located just off of eastern boulevard.

a 15-rolle at perry hall roddick gun to school and seriously wounded a classmate. last week the victim was able to go home from the hospital. he spent the last 14 days recovering at shock trauma, after undergoing several surgeries. now he will have to return to the hospital for some follow-up care and will also be getting visits from nurses and therapists for at home treatment. recovery's not complete, but daniel's parents say they are impressed by his progress and thankful for all the community support. >> he got support from the minute he was hurt. i cannot say enough about him and how he has done what he had to do and came through for all of us. i cannot ask for a better son. >> a special thanks to all those out there that have been

praying, communities coming together, people coming together, praying for our son. >> police say that daniel was struck at random when robert gladden jr fired twice in the school cafeteria. he is scheduled for bail review on thursday. in pikesville, police have identified the couple found dead in their home yesterday afternoon. jayne miller is live in the newsroom with more on what we have learned today. >> police are saying no suspects in this case. they are making a point to say they do not consider the debts of 87-year-old george pepper and 85-year-old marjorie mari pepper of random crime. the bodies are found yesterday in their home when a relative from out of state called police to check on the couple.

baltimore county police tell us they recovered the murder weapon used to kill an elderly couple in pikesville, and all they will say right now is that it was not a shooting and it was not random. the couple were found dead inside their home around 4:00 yesterday afternoon. detectives confirm that both had significant traumatic injuries and recalling the deaths of homicides. police said there's no sign of forced entry. they searched the home after receiving a call from a neighbor. hundreds turned out today for the funeral of former ravens honor art modell. nfl commissioner roger goodell is there as was cowboys owner jerry jones. he served on the nfl committee for over 30 years. people all across the region are gathering for the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the world trade center.
