the researcher for the national institute of health was murdered last night near his home and police are searching for his killer or killers and they are remembering the 51-year-old dr. peter marvit. lowell melser has been following the story and joins us live from baltimore city police headquarters. >> donna, police are calling this a tragic and senseless crime. a well-known 51-year-old researcher from nih gunned down in front of his home. police right now are investigating this as an attempted robbery that ended in murder. >> they are canvassing the 2800 block of chesterfield avenue and they're looking for clues after 51-year-old dr. peter marvit was gunned down friday night. >> was believed that he was exiting are entering this vehicle a few blocks away from his home. >> he was shot in the head and

severe weather threat. you can see the line stretching down to the central eastern shore and into the southern part of the bay. it looks like the worst of the weather is cutting across dorchester county now and working towards salzburg. they're going back to deal with some wind gusting there as the line approaches very heavy rain that could cause flooding in low-lying areas as it moves across the region. we could pick up a quick entry two of rain in some of these heavy downpours with tropical moisture mixed in with this front producing a bunch of rain. be on the lookout on the eastern shore especially east of cambridge now down towards all very and ocean city. on the oceans or, we have seen the worst of the area of low by. none of this letter will be severe that is still a threat to the eastern shore. let's check out the watches and warnings. orange shaded counties are

severe thunderstorms in the location so there are warnings with the same thing in caroline county. from cecil county down to the lower eastern shore, that is where the tornado watch remains in effect. with each passing hour or half hour, the threat of tornadoes is diminishing and the line of storms makes its way to the coast. all these warnings have been dropped. there is still a wind advisory. wind has been gusting from the south and that goes on to midnight. it still could be quite windy. green shaded areas is where we have the flood warning in effect. they will be flooded, so watch out. very heavy rain to the north and west of baltimore around hunt valley. in those areas to the north of baltimore, the rain is really coming down.
