this morning. six people were injured in the fire. one child was taken to hopkins pediatrics. we will have updates as soon as they become available. >> the search continues for the person who shot and killed a local professor. >> he was murdered monday night a few blocks away from his home. jennifer franciotti has the latest on the investigation. what do we know about the victim? >> he has been identified as dr. peter marvit. it may have been an attempted robbery that turned into murder. detectives canvassed the area and they were looking for clues. police say peter marvit was getting in or out of this car when he was shot in the head and

torso on monday night. he had been a research professor at college park. officials confirmed he was most recently a contract it analyst with clinical trials.gov. >> our hearts ache for his longtime partner and his daughter. we are very concerned and keep his family in our prayers. it is like a family so we have lost an important family member. >> as police continued to look for a suspect, they are looking for the public's help. people are asked to call metro crime stoppers at 1-866-7- lockup. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> police make an arrest in last week's morgan state university shooting.

police arrested kelly ellerbee . police say he was an acquaintance with the victim, michael campbell. campbell is still in the hospital this morning. witnesses reported seeing kelly ellerbee after the shooting. >> it was not a random encounter appeared the victim and the suspect knew each other. >> need there are students at morgan state. charges include attempted murder. >> funeral services will be held died sheriff's deputy who while attending funeral services for a fellow deputy. the funeral begins at 11:00 a.m. in joppa. traffic are expected -- traffic delays are expected on mountain road.

jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> back to the breaking news. jennifer franciotti on the scene. bring us up to date. >> it looks like one victim is being transported. we just arrived on the scene three minutes ago and as poker with a firefighter who says the fire here in northeast baltimore is now out. when we arrive, we talked to another firefighter who said they're starting to pack up equipment. the fire was a pretty heavy fire but they did get it under control fairly quickly. six other people have been transported to area hospitals. one person, a child to johns hopkins pediatric. two other victims were taken to bayview medical center.

this is a three story garden style apartment. it looks like over to the right we can see a lot ladder truck that is extended. i'm not smelling smoke at this point. i did arrive and spoke with someone who said it was pretty wild that people were jumping from the windows. we're expected to hear from a captain with the fire department who has remained in on the scene. this fire started just before 4:00 a.m. this morning. six injuries. six people were transported to area hospitals. another person was loaded into an ambulance. the extent of their injuries are unknown. right now we cannot tell you how badly these victims were injured. one child was involved in this
