we're in northeast baltimore. the fire broke out just before 4:00 a.m. this morning. thomas lives in one of those apartments and you look up to police pounding on your door this morning. >> yes, i did. i got out as quick as i could. the firefighters were fighting the fire. i have to give them credit. they do serious timor. they were doing their job. -- they do serious work. their team work is so good. i was watching them and i was amazed by how they work. >> you said they swarmed on their like batman. >> they are serious heroes. >> the said the fire was coming

from all three levels. >> yes. >> we know that two people in serious condition. thank you for talking with us. he wanted to talk about the brave work that the firefighters did this morning. there are seven victims. we walked to the scene of the fire which is about a half a block from here and down the road. i spoke with a young mother of a 3-year-old son and a 5 month old baby. she said she woke up smelling smoke and she looked in the hallway and saw the smoke and grabbed her children and she had to crawl out the bedroom window and jumped to safety. she got help the jumping to safety. she said her son was still asleep. she was holding him while he was

asleep trying to jump out of the bedroom window. another witness said he helped a woman and her boyfriend escape. the fire swept through all three floors of this apartment affecting as many as 12 apartments. no word if these victims are related to each other. reporting live, jennifer franciotti. >> very traumatic scene. police are searching for clues in the death of the researcher. somebody gone down peter marvit near his home. he was at his car and not from his home when he was shot in the head and torso. >> our hearts ache for his longtime partner and his daughter. we are very concerned and keep his family in our prayers. the society is, in many ways -- and any performing group will

tell you this -- it is like a family, so we have lost a very dear and important family member. >> we're told he was a research assistant professor at college park. he was most recently contracted analyst with clinicaltrials.gov. if you have information, call 1- 866-7-lockup. a suspect is behind bars charged with shooting a suspect on the campus of morgan state university. kelly ellerbee was picked up and charged with murder. he came to the campus and shot michael campbell. it is believed the shooting stemmed from a dispute over drugs. >> it was not a random encounter appeared the victim and suspect knew each other. >> campbell is still in the

hospital this morning. police are searching for clues in the shooting death of a woman near the old town mall. her body was found on tuesday night. anyone with information should call baltimore city police. >> the investigation continues into a hit-and-run accident in west baltimore. the man struck a woman and a man. this happened just after midnight on sunday. the impact was so strong it set the victims flying 50 feet. the woman remains in hospital with serious injuries. anyone with defamation should call the accident investigation unit. a man tried to commit suicide.

matthew long is in fair condition in all, where he overdose to on an undisclosed drug. police said he left a note saying he was sorry for what he did. >> a pasadena man accused of stabbing his wife has entered a plea agreement. he entered an alford plea for the murder of his wife. he became enraged when he learned his wife was about to leave him. he could face life in prison. police all looking for this man who they say performed lewd acts at an elementary school on town center boulevard. day care and sports activities

as we head into the afternoon. or 74make it up to 73 today and the mostly sunny skies. clouds to start. >> breaking news at of northeast baltimore where an overnight apartment fire sense seven people to the hospital. >> jennifer franciotti has the very latest. >> the fire is now under control. it started just before 4:00 a.m. this morning in northeast baltimore. this is captain roman clark. >> we received a call. units arrived on the scene within minutes and found a garden style apartment with heavy smoke and fire showing. several people had jumped from the upper floors of the apartment with several people still trapped inside.

firefighters didn't outstanding job of rescuing those other individuals. >> we know seven injuries total. >> there have been seven people transported with one child. the child and one adult are in serious condition, possible life-threatening condition. the other members were medium to minor injuries. >> thank you so much. we heard from one of the fire victims who described escaping with her children. >> i ran and i was trying to get out the bedroom window and it was horrible. i was scared. i did know what to do. i got out. somebody help me. i got out of the window. >> neighborhood services is on
