11:30 pm
slips and falls, it lands right in the lap of the defender. boykin giving a lot of room on the outside as they shift on cole on the other side. so you think they're going to stay this side, victor cruz's side, then he'll have a shot, too. >> al: cruz, hixon wide. manning drops the snap, spins away, throws. incomplete. eli lucky to get it away. and it's third down and ten. >> cris: having a tough time with these snaps tonight. seen more than one here. that thing one-hopped. you can see him turn around and you can see it slipped out of his hands. two terrible plays to start this drive for the giants.
11:31 pm
>> al: from the 35. crowd rising as one. a minute and a half. barden comes to the inside. manning throws. caught. but it's going to be a little short of the first. it's fourth down and the ball game right here for the giants. fourth down. saying come on. >> cris: no time to think about it. if i'm eli, i might step up and quarterback this thing. cruz and boykin again. >> al: manning throwing deep. and flags are thrown, two of them, because rodgers-cromartie was holding on to barden. pretty clear. >> cris: cromartie was saying he grabbed my face mask first. >> referee: pass interference.
11:32 pm
defense number 23. first down. >> cris: let's see here. i'm not so sure he didn't. clearly the interference was there. but i think that cromartie was right, too. he grabbed his face mask on the release. >> al: so the ball is at the 35. they're already within long field goal range. career long is 53, which he's done twice. 63 seconds. and manning will throw. and that's underthrown and incomplete, intended for cruz. second down. and there is tynes. hasn't missed one this season. clutch.
11:33 pm
he's been here before. >> al: second and ten. this time hixon and cruz go to the left and barden to the right. >> cris: nate allen was sneaking up like he was coming on the field. >> al: the pass is caught. that's barden. and barden is to the 25. that will make it a lot easier. now they're going to say no. barden had it, asomugha was there, then it gets waved off. >> cris: asomugha with a big jam off the line of scrimmage. then he's going to drag that thing out of there. >> al: wow. >> cris: has to maintain possession. two feet down. >> al: big play by asomugha. big. third and ten. >> cris: you want to go for five
11:34 pm
here just to make the field goal range. >> al: that will be incomplete. >> cris: uh-oh. >> al: flag is thrown again, though. that's barden involved in it. flag in that area right there. that's coleman saying who? >> cris: it looked like nnamdi asomugha got his hands up around the face mask. >> referee: pass interference, defense number 24. first down. >> cris: they were cheering the referees when they came out before the game. >> al: crowd wants the replacements back. but they're getting the calls right. >> cris: whoa. i don't think i'm calling that one. wow. what a call that is. >> al: 49 seconds.
11:35 pm
it gifves them an automatic firt down. right now you're looking at a 46-yard field goal. and they'll give it to bradshaw. bradshaw to the 26. working the clock now from the other side. back to the interference call. >> cris: let's see. the shot to the face. that's not -- i wouldn't have called it. that's all i can say. and i keep playing offense here, too. >> al: you're an exreceiver. he'll go deep. that is incomplete. that's barden again. >> cris: they're going to call that, pass interference on asomugha again. >> al: yep. >> cris: oh, no, they go the other way. >> al: the giants think it's going to go against them. >> referee: pass interference, number 13. repeat second down.
11:36 pm
>> al: the back and forth with the flags. >> cris: asomugha is going to get in position. watch him sort of check him out of bounds. he's going to just get in front. to me that's -- then barden will grab him over the top. wow. tough calls on both sides. >> al: that makes it about a 54 yard field goal attempt, if they don't gain another yard. no time-outs. second and 19. eli sprinting away. eli throwing into double coverage. incomplete for hixon. so now it's third down. >> cris: you got a tough situation now. >> al: they're going to bring tynes out right now because the issue is if you don't get out of bounds and you complete in the middle of the field, it's going to be fourth down if you don't get the first down and you can't
11:37 pm
spike it. >> cris: that was one where you really needed to take a look at where you are on the field, five yards, is pretty valuable in that moment. >> al: very. 54 yard attempt with 15 seconds. weatherford to hold it. and tynes' kick is no good. the time-out was called. time-out has been called. how often do we see this? so the crowd is ecstatic. now they're good to realize a time-out was called. >> cris: take a look. andy reid. wow. that was either right on the money or a little tardy even with the time-out. >> al: yep. i hate that rule. i really do.
11:38 pm
>> cris: now they're going to go back to 15 seconds. now, when they think about this strategy, will you consider at all trying to throw one -- of course, the eagles will be sitting all over any outbreaking route there. >> al: who's going to throw it, weatherford? you got to get to the 18 for a first down. osi to snap it. tynes gets another shot after he was wide left. and this time tynes' kick is no good. accurate enough but just short. and those extra yards come back to burn the giants. >> cris: they're in field goal range. the only thing to knock them out of field goal range is a penalty.
11:39 pm
and they did the penalty. >> al: he's a couple of yards shy.3 f2 en el primero y 19 y la pateaba and the eagles are going to go to 3-1. and the three victories by a composite four points. you had the offensive one, out of field goal range they go. the eagles continue to have the giants' number. here's the pass interference call on barden. >> cris: wrap his arms around him. and then barden on the top side, i think they could have called
11:40 pm
that one both ways. >> al: but that ball goes to philadelphia and so does the game. 19-17, the eagles win it. wendy's post game report coming right up. px
11:41 pm
11:42 pm
welcome to the wendy's post game report. here now bob costas. >> the eagles go to 3-1 and their three victories are by a combined total of three points one over cleveland, one over baltimore and with the over the
11:43 pm
giants tonight. mccoy ran for 123 yards, vick threw for a touchdown, didn't have any picks. 19 of 30. they're our stoofars of the gam. they're with michele. >> michael vick, the giants had two tries to win this game. first one is a miss, second one's about to go. what are you thinking? >> i don't believe in icing the kicker. let him get up there and do what he do. it's tough, man. you know, football can take years off your life, man. but this is what it's all about. just glad we pulled it out. >> in part pulled it out because the run game simply exploded in the second half. a lot of that had to do with lesean mccoy. what was different? >> the guys up front, i challenged them all game. i wanted them to come out and just let everybody know that we can run the ball as well. you know, we can get the yards in the open field and he can take advantage of it. so i just wanted those guys to play physical. >> and indeed they did.
11:44 pm
they helped you out, kept you upright more than you have been coming in to this. two sacks, no turnovers tonight. what can you say about the effort and the way that they were able to protect you? >> my offensive line did a great job. our entire team played well. i take my hat off to them. i challenged the offensive line throughout the course of the game and just had to lead them. they responded well. >> they did. congratulations. let's turn to another guy who responded well and that is lesean mccoy. we'll go to this. 19 yards rushing in the first half, second half simply off the charts. what happened? >> just -- i mean, it's the giants and the eagles. a tough physical battle. what we expected. just got to be patient. the run game eventually they'll crack and break, and eventually they did. >> i asked michael and i'll ask you. two attempts for the field goal at the end. they call him time-out to ice him. >> i was so nervous.
11:45 pm
it looked good at first. but it happened to be short. i was saying my prayers, he m s missed it, so bless him. >> you and osi umenyiora, a well publicized war of words again this week. >> i'm happy with the win. i'm not sure how he'll take it. but i think osi and mccoy just to get the fans involved. the rivalry games are tough for us. >> congratulations on the win. >> thank you. >> michele, the eagles have now won eight of their last nine against the giants. philly is 3-1, the giants are 2-2. it's important that both of their defeats to dallas and now philadelphia are within the division, as we bring in tony dungy. tony, your initial thoughts on this one? >> well, it was a great game. and i think you have to give andy reid a lot of credit for two things. number one he changed the protection around a little bit in the second half, kept people in and gave vick a little more time.
11:46 pm
number two, staying with the running game when they didn't have the success, getting it to mccoy. here you see a maximum protection ball that he got to jackson. then michael vick taking a lot of hits early but staying after those and runs on that big last drive. >> tony, a couple of late game strategic questions. one on each side. 15 seconds to go. it was third down when the giants kicked the field goal. the field goal's more than 50 yards. they didn't have any time-outs left. you could throw a sideline pass or throw a pass in the middle of the field and still have time to spike the ball and have a field goal from more manageable range. were you surprised the giants didn't do that? >> well, they weren't going to be able to spike it if they didn't make a first down and they had about 19 yards to make. you have to trust eli manning, give him a shot to get the ball to the sideline maybe pick up ten yards and know that your quarterback is going to make a good decision. if he can't, get at that sideline completion, throw the
11:47 pm
ball away and still dick your long field goal. >> what about the yofd icing the kicker. the time-out gives them a second chance. tynes missed them both. you see that strategy used all the time. you wonder if it's to the advantage of the kicking team sometimes. >> i'm with michael vick on that. i do not believe in that, icing the kicker. you give him a practice shot. what it could have done here is tom coughlin could have looked at that and said said, hey, 54 yard is too much for tynes right now, let me run that third down play. there's a lot of disadvantages to calling that time-out. i don't agree with that strategy at all. >> we'll turn now to mike florio, pro football talk. and ask mike as we do every week, to take us through some of the day's biggest injuries. >> last week the jets lost quarterback darrelle revis for the season. this week santonio holmes. we don't know how long he'll be out, but he has a left foot injury. x-rays negative. mri tomorrow, but it doesn't
11:48 pm
look good. titans quarterback jake locker injured his shoulder week one. he aggravated that today against the texans. mri coming monday. he could miss some time. greg jennings aggravated a join injury suffered in week one. he could miss time. then in tampa, a bizarre incident before the game. brandon meriweather and receiver aldrick robinson. it's unknown when those guys will be able to play again. >> bizarre but obviously serious. nothing to make light of. but you see something new almost every week. thank you, mike. you can get the latest nfl news and information from mike all week long from tuning in to the all new pro football talk which airs on the nbc sports network presented by chevrolet. al and cris back to wrap it up after this.
