firearm. it was later identified as a a b b a gun. lowell melser or as the outcome of that situation. >> police say they have a 17- year-old male student from owings mills high school in custody. police say he brought a be be done on to the school campus. -- he brought a bb gun to school. some parents are upset because they said the school never told them about the incident. tense moments at around 10:00 a.m. after baltimore county officers were sent to the school after a call that a student had some sort of weapon. >> the student is all the other person with a gun did exactly what we would want them to do. he reported it very broadly to the school administrators. they then did exactly what they were supposed to do. they locked down the school and

contacted the police immediately by calling 911. >> a concern parent was about to enter the school to pick up her sick child when police arrived. >> two or three dozen of them got out with rivals, and i lost it. i was no good after that. they rushed into the school and brought someone out in handcuffs. >> students described it as very frightening. >> we heard over the announcement that it was a code red, so we turn off all the lights and lock the doors and we had to get down. >> didn't say they saw him at the school showing off the weapon that later turned out to be an airsoft bb gun. investigators say 22 minutes elapsed from the time officers got the call until the student was taken away. some parents were left wondering why they never heard anything

from the school. >> they call me any other time for anything else, if the pta is needing money, they call me for that, but a gun and bob in the school, they don't call me for that? i have a bit of a problem with that. >> school officials say everything possible was done to keep students save. >> we went to lockdown just to make sure the kids and staff were safe. this all happened within 20 minutes. that is not a lot of time when you think about what has to take place in that time. >> police are not identifying the 17-year-old suspect, who is being charged as a juvenile in this case. he faces a charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and disruption of a school activity. lowell melser, wbal-tv 11 news. >> testimony continued today for the two police officers accused of abusing their power when they

saw that a college student two years ago. that student attended the university of maryland at college park. barry simms was in the courtroom today and he has the latest for us. >> a police expert testified that this was excessive force. the victim, john mckenna, was struck at least a dozen times. charged with assault and misconduct in office, prosecutors and the defense are focusing on the actions of son and james harri and officer reginald baker. they were on mounted patrol and dressed in riot gear. a key piece of evidence in the case is video shop showing the celebration and crowd in the park. the video also shows the beating of john mckenna it was a 21-

year-old college junior. the experts concluded the toicer used his right she'll push mckeown into a wall, but the repeated beatings with a baton was excessive force. he was struck a minimum of 12 times within 4-7 seconds. jurors also heard from an internal affairs investigators to testify that officer harrison claims to be a witness and denies using a baton. testimony of the use of force

went to the police and the city about neighborhood gang activity, the house was burned down, killing seven members of the family. the city demolished the home and build the dawson safe haven center. >> we know that those seven angels are here watching over us. >> after school, up to 50 kids come here for a free after- school program. this 17-year-old lost his friends in the fire. >> ever since they did die and they build this new building, it has kept me on track and out of trouble and going a different way that i can become successful at. >> he says the good goes beyond the safe haven center.

depends on how many students end up on the school rolls. tim tooten has more on that story. >> the enrollment numbers will not only help principal staff their schools but give them a better idea of how much money they will need next year from the state for schools. here is what they are looking for. they come across schools with too many students, they will shift some of those teachers to other areas where the numbers are low. even though it is necessary, it will not be easy for students. >> it is very challenging and very disruptive when you have spent the time getting to know your children, you have set up your room, and made plans for the next couple of months, and now you have to be uprooted and placed somewhere else. >> school officials say they will have the official numbers by the end of this month and decide which schools will be affected.

evening thanks to high pressure coming in from the west which will slowly move off the coast tomorrow. some of the milder temperatures out in memphis and kansas city plant and as far as dallas starts to move our way. as high pressure leaves, the skies turn partly cloudy and temperatures warm up a little. 66-71 tomorrow, sunrise on wednesday morning at 7:19. bay water temperatures are in the mid-60's. showers will arrive midday on thursday, about a 60% chance of some wet weather on thursday with showers lingering in amounts until friday. on the eastern shore, a nice day tomorrow, 70 degrees and evening showers.

down at the coast, including an ocean city and the delaware beaches, temperatures in the 70's for a couple of days. thursday night is when the train reaches the coast down at ocean city and there may be some thunder mixed in there. out in the atlantic is still hurricane season. nine of the 17 named storms have reached hurricane strength, and raphael is one of them. there is hamilton bermuda, and there is the center of the storm safely to the southeast. tropical storm force winds and heavy rains, with winds at 85 miles an hour near the center of the storm. is moving 26 miles an hour, so it will be gone by tomorrow and the sunshine will return to bermuda. showers in the evening on thursday lingering into broad

as a pastor, my support for question 6 is rooted in my belief that the government should treat everyone equally. i wouldn't want someone denying my rights based upon their religious views, so i shouldn't deny others based upon mine. it's about fairness. i support this law because it doesn't force any church to perform a same sex marriage if it's against their beliefs. and that's what this is about. protecting religious freedom and all marylanders equally under the law. join me in voting for question 6. it's heavy lifting. you start with a democratic senator named ben. by getting bwi-marshall funding for new runways, he's helping us serve 21 million passengers a year, which helps keep 100,000 jobs that depend on the airport, and that means more cargo for more businesses
