police department both face assault charges. they allegedly assaulting a man in an east baltimore home after he was suspected of drug activity. the charges were filed after a yearlong investigation conducted by the internal investigation unit. jurors have gone home for the night in the trial of two police officers accused of beating a university of maryland student during a rowdy celebration, after maryland beat duke in a basketball game. lowell melser was in the courtroom and has the latest for us, live from upper marlboro. >> the trial continued today with the second accused officer taking the stand. perhaps the most interesting if permission revealed today came from the judge presiding over the case. according to sources, a reporter asked a question about previous relationship she had. the source says that judge

beverly woodard told of the attorneys involved behind closed doors that not only was she previously married to prince george's county police officer, but that that officer had been convicted of using excessive force. it prompted a three-hour delay in the case and ultimately ended with the jury being sent home early. reginald baker and james harrison are accused of beating university of maryland student john mckenna during a riot situation after maryland beat duquesne basketball back on march 3, 2010. -- after maryland beat duke in basketball. both men claim that mckenna had startled amounted officers course and was the aggressor. harrison said he swung at mckenna 7-8 times and struck the pavement twice while doing so.

he said he's won so many times because mckenna refused to drop his cellphone and not show his hands. when the police department lost an internal investigation, he initially lied to investigators, telling them he had nothing to do with it, but then recanted his story a few days later. sources tell me the issue should be resolved by tomorrow, so the jury should get the case sometime tomorrow after closing arguments. there could be further delays the the issue is not resolved. >> starting this week, in conversations while riding on an mta bus in baltimore could be recorded. they say safety is the key issue here. >> our goal is to use every tool

a new program is designed to help link veterans to medical and psychological services. it is in place that all three campuses of the baltimore community college and also under way at towson university. just over a year ago we felt an earthquake right here in the baltimore area. today there was an earthquake drill. >> it was not just here in baltimore. over a million americans from maryland to georgia took part in the real call the great southeast shakeout. rob roblin has more. >> we have been discussing with the state is the procedure for an earthquake drill for about a week now. >> with the number of earthquakes on the east coast and in the south increasing in the past few years, the mayor's office of emergency management wanted to make sure schoolchildren knew what to do it in the event of an earthquake here. >> is important that building

-- help cooley record high is -- how cool the record high is. still in the upper 60's over in caroline county, 55 at oakland and frostburg, mainly because they've had more cloud cover there. a band of showers is coming across western pennsylvania into garrett county and stretching down through west virginia. reports of hail and gusty winds and thunder storms out in the mountains which may survive the trek over the mountains toward baltimore. later tonight, especially after midnight, that line of storms gets into frederick county and largest toward baltimore. maybe in the friday morning rush hour we will have to contend with the heaviest downpours and maybe the strongest storms associated with that approach in front. tonight we stay on the warm side of the front.

clear out. the western part of the system will come in with cool, unsettled weather over the weekend. eastern shore locations, the rain gets here late tonight and then clears up in time for the weekend. at ocean city we will see some showers arriving late tonight and continuing into the day tomorrow. sunny skies returning for both saturday and sunday. once the front it's out of here, it will cool off a little bit. saturday and sunday, low to mid 50's. sunday looks like the best they to be outdoors over the weekend. low 7's right through the middle of next week. >> this is 11 sports. >> for the first six weeks, the ravens barely made a ripple and then just as they knew terrell suggs would soon be testing his healing achilles in practice, armageddon erupts.

we can reasonably expect another high school game friday. both teams were classics, including a double overtime victory in the inaugural conference title game. the yankees are getting throttled by the tigers, 6-0 in the sixth inning. looks like the new york season will come to an end rather soon. the forecast, coming soon when we come back.
