few days. the wind and rain and flooding along the coast is what we are mostly concerned with. what's the satellite imagery. you don't see that well-defined , -- that well-defined eye. it looks a little more ragged and will eventually get into some cooler water temperature. right now is a category 2 hurricane and is moving northbound at about 20 miles an hour. for the bahamas, curbing east of the carolinas, and this is what we are concerned with, it turns back to the west. anywhere from the coast of new jersey to perhaps right into maryland sometime on monday. it looks like a powerful storm. it looks like a very strong reality that we will be dealing with some of the impact from sandy later in the weekend and

from an atm. 10 minutes later a 19-year-old on at a bicycle was targeted. he was eventually released unharmed. the police are looking for three men. the getaway car is described as a for-store dodge stratus. police in harford county are investigating an accident that killed three people earlier today. it happened on the 7500 block of route 1 this morning. police say a chevrolet impala was headed north on route 1 when it collapsed -- it collided with a tractor-trailer headed south. the crash shut down route 1 in both directions as police conducted their investigation. the victims' names have not yet been released. a painful day in court for the mother and brother of a teen killed in a drunk driving crash. they were on trial in glen burnie on charges of furnishing alcohol to minors.

four people were killed in that accident. kim dacey sat in on the trial today and joins us live from district court in glen burnie with the details. i imagine it was a very emotional day in court. >> it really was. debby franco burst into tears after the judge announced that she and her son joshua or were acquitted on the charges of furnishing alcohol to those miners. >> today's decision by the judge completely exonerated the francos of any wrongdoing. >> debby franco and her son joshua left the courthouse in tears after the judge acquitted them on charges of furnishing alcohol to minors. 18-year-old brianna franco and her friends were killed, as well as 55-year-old terry wayne davis. police said the driver was drunk and going the wrong way on route

50 when she slammed into davis's car. >> the most important thing the public needs to know is that the driver of the vehicle who caused the accident, britney walker, consume alcohol that apparently was obtained by herself or from somebody outside of the franco household. >> the prosecution called several the teams who were at the party that night at the home. one testified he gave bri $5 in exchange for a cup for beer, but most only saw debby franco as they were leaving the party. >> there was testimony, affirmative testimony by least one witness that he was never provided alcohol by the francos. there is never been any evidence to support the charges in this case. >> before the defense began closing arguments, they made a motion for acquittal. the judge granted it, agreeing there was no testimony that

ocean. the weather pattern will be energized by a strong cold front. 28 in denver right now, and 72 in kansas city. that front is moving east and it will combine with sandy coming up from the bahamas. where they collide, that is where we will get a really energized storm. it will be important to see where sandy goes as it moves up the coast and the timing of this front coming in from the west. it looks like the front go through here saturday night and sunday morning, and sandy will be coming in sunday night into monday. the eye has become less defined this afternoon, but still holding onto some of those winds. it is tracking through the bahamas with the wind field expanding just a little bit. it is still a category 2

hurricane. moving north at a brisk 20 miles an hour. it is forecast to make its way east of florida and east of the south carolina coastal area, starts to pull toward bermuda and then gets pulled back into the atlantic by some other level steering winds. you can see this wide range of possibilities from southern new england to maybe the carolina outer banks. anywhere in that huge region, the storm could make landfall sometime sunday night going into monday. it looks like monday will be the worst day around here. we have been watching this very closely. there is the center of the storm, southeast of hatteras. the tighter the isobars are together, the stronger the wind s. on that track we get major weather problems here with winds and flooding rains and coastal

climbing the caribbean, where the storm is already blamed for several deaths. maryland utility companies are preparing for large-scale adages and damage. tom tasselmyer is tracking sandy. >> a strong winter like cold front coming through the upper midwest and a hurricane down in the bahamas moving north. a strange time of year when you can get cold, wintry conditions coming from canada and the topics still active. one in the middle of the country and the other big sprawling area across the bahamas and south florida. look at the computer model estimates. both of them are centered on a track curving back toward the mid-atlantic and northeast. the powerful storm looks like it will be slamming into the east coast, perhaps up to new jersey or some other new england, at the same time that cold air is coming in from the west.

states. it has the potential to have a major impact on the coast, starting this weekend and into early next week. we have more from palm beach shores, florida. >> hurricane fendi continues to unleash its power on the bahamas. we are getting the outer fringes of that here. we continue to watch the waves roll in, some of them as high as four or 5 feet, and the winds have been gusting up to 50 miles an hour. this weather is expected to be with us all day tomorrow and parts of saturday morning before things finally pull away. officials have closed down schools. obviously they do not want anybody in the water here. worried about the georgia- florida football game on saturday. there are asking folks attending the game to make sure it they use their best judgment. do not bring out a lot of loose things like umbrellas and tarps that will be blowing around.

when you talk about 100,000 people out and that sort of thing, we can certainly get into trouble in a big hurry, so that is obviously a concern. the bigger concern lies as we watch a storm we have never seen on the modern meteorology maps potentially unfold to the northeast. details are uncertain, but it could be a high impact event in the making. >> a lot of potential, but we still have to wait and see. >> it will be evolving over the next few days. right now it looks like the worst of the weather from this system will be on monday. computer models take the center of that storm right over the washington area late monday or tuesday. 67 for the high, 61 for the low.

interesting that the lower temperature is almost what we would have for an afternoon high. we are really in a mild weather pattern. the clouds trying to thin out a little bit in spot right now but they will fill back again overnight. 77 degrees was the record high, fairly low for a record high. i think that is one of the first ones below 80 degrees for a record high this fall. 68 in western maryland, not much of a temperature spread from baltimore to the mountains to the coast. sunset at 6:13 and east reece continues with mild temperatures. the cold will combine with the storm coming up from the hamas and the front will be pushing through. it is still possible the front could make it to the east coast and take sandy away. the more likely scenario is that they will merge.

by the time of the storm gets up to us, it may be losing is tropical characteristics but will still be a powerful area of low pressure. this is the most likely scenario, going for predictor the hamas and turning toward bermuda, before turning back toward the mid-atlantic. some of these are off on their own, but most are clustered in this track that brings the right back into the mid atlantic. that would mostly be happening sunday night into monday. it carries it up for the great lakes. behind the storm there will be some of that cold air coming in that is up in the northern rockies and northern plains right now. that will arrive mostly on tuesday. tomorrow is another mild day.

waves that 1 foot or less. if you are heading out to the western maryland mountains for fraud or the weekend, decent weather out there and mostly partly cloudy skies and 69. showers on saturday, sunday is much colder. on the eastern shore, a little sunshine trying to break through an afternoon and some scattered showers late in the evening on saturday. tomorrow is decent, the weather rapidly deteriorate sunday into monday in ocean city as sandy comes up the coast. 70 tomorrow, 68 saturday, rain and winds increasing sunday and monday. it could be very heavy rain and wind, tapering off on tuesday. chilly temperatures with ties only in the 40's.

>> american airlines might be in the depths of bankruptcy, but it is hiring. a spokesman said it will at least 1500 new flight attendants over the next year. they also plan to hire 2500 pilots over the next five years. american has lost thousands of employees as part of the reorganization. bad news for another major air carrier. federal officials are considering fining a u.s. airways for flying a jet 916 times without performing in required tests and inspections. this is not video of the exact aircraft, but investigators said the plane in question has a leaking fuel pump. apparently the plan was put back into service. u.s. air races is responding to the proposed fine but claims rules were followed. there is an encouraging news tonight from highway safety
