you to people who, maybe like you, may feel stuck. from changes in your career, your love life, your style, we've brought in experts like donny. we put up a poll on today.com. interesting to see the results. we just tallied them. we asked where in your life do you feel the most stuck? in your work, love life or appearance? 39% said appearance, 37% said at work and 24% said in their love life. are you surprised by those numbers? >> i would have thought a little heavier at -- i wouldn't have thought appearance is at the top. >> appearance is at the top. >> i would not have thought that. >> appearance you can change. >> maybe can't lose weight. i think it's mostly about weight and health related. interesting thing about what i would love to say to all our viewers in any category, you can overthink all this stuff to death versus just saying, you know, why not me?

i deserve to be -- mumbo jumbo, i deserve to have that great next job or great love. you can't be afraid of failure. just go for it. the worst that happens, it doesn't work out. just everything that has to happen, you can't be afraid of taking a shot and missing. the real failure is to not give it a shot. >> you have to put yourself out there. if you don't put yourself out there, you never know. >> for some people it works. you have a job. the check comes every two weeks. you don't love that job but it's steady. to go out on that limb it's difficult. >> it is difficult. one of the segments i'm doing later on in the show, you can hedge it. everybody at home has some thought about their next dream. you don't have to blow up your life to do it. start doing something on the weekends. >> spark start. >> that's what he said, look, he was working a day job but at night -- >> sales. >> he was working on his novel. and, obviously -- >> i want to say to everybody, at the end of the show, make a decision right now that whatever you take away from this show,

your body, love life, that you're going to do t it has to start with i'm doing it. that's it. everything else is mumbo jumbo. make that decision now before you watch the rest of the show. >> appearance, your love life, your style, all that is going to come up throughout this hour. take two, the art of reinvention. speaking of reinventing yourself, a couple of famous names who have done that recently, ben affleck, showered with awards for directing "argo." i think he called it the 2003 year. >> phase. >> where he was with j.lo, in the tabloids every week, came out with a bunch of movies that were bombs. and he said to himself, i'm going to step out of this life. he said i'm not going to act anymore. i'm going to focus on directing. a classic move of reinvention. it's worked out great for him. >> the town just put him on the map as a director. >> and a couple of other movies. "argo" most recently. some are saying he is the hottest director to work with in hollywood. he had a skill set but perhaps

needed some failure in his life to make him go after that dream. >> by the way, not a slacker in the acting category. >> no. >> great example, though, of taking a competency -- not straying completely away from it. let's say somebody at home is a bank teller and they're bored with it and they want to start to do party planning. it seems different but you're dealing with people all day long. you have your people skills. i guarantee you can find anything in what you're doing now that can have a shade of what you want -- take affleck. directing? no, he wasn't a director, but he was around it. >> we've got a little bit of his speech. go he got this award for directing bafta. this is a second act for me. you've given me that. this industry has given me that. i'm so grateful and proud and i just want to dedicate this anyone else out there who's trying to get their second act. you can do it. another actor, nicholas sparks, and another author who wrote

"the fifty shades of grey" she said it was her mid-life crisis writ large. she just started writing steamy book. >> whoa all know what happened next, starting the 2012 craze, a top-selling book. >> based on donny deutsch. >> his love life. >> 65 million copies of this book. >> unbelievable. >> pretty good mid life crisis. >> we should all be so lucky, right? take three, we've all been through this. >> we have been. >> in one form or another. professional or permanently? >> just getting started in this field in journalism. coming out of school, i couldn't find a job that actually paid me a salary. i was recruited by a bank at the time, was in a management training program. i was in finance for two years, thought i completely left my dream behind. >> look at this. wait a minute now. >> but then i kind of kept going. i persevered, got a job at court tv and then finally that led to news 12 the bronx.

that was my first on-air gig. >> the old -- >> look at that. >> kerchief. >> i was a flight attendant. >> hiding a hickey or something? >> oh, nice. >> somewhere -- really? you were mr. smooth back -- >> just an excuse to show that. >> mr. smooth. >> what about that? >> mr. smooth in atlanta? >> i was totally professional. working at cnn in atlanta behind the camera, not doing what i wanted to be doing. you have to know at some point it's not going to happen here. >> yeah. >> i picked myself up and moved to new york city and looked for new opportunities. you have to be able to look yourself in the mirror and say it's time to move on. it may not be comfortable but you have to pull the plug. >> that's right. al, how about you? >> i was very fortunate. i started doing weekend weather when i was a sophomore in college. that kind of put me on that path. just transition wise, still i was worried about getting enough physical activity and i just made the decision about nine months ago, i want to bike to work. i just decided i'm going to do

it. i really feel like it's made a change in my life. the days i don't do it, i miss it. i've got some sort of activity and i'm taking charge of being healthy. >> makes for a fun commute, too. >> it does. and you learn a new language. >> donny, have you been stuck? >> early on i was working for my dad. he fired me. it was actually the best thing that ever happened to me. and my dad was going to sell the company. i knew he really didn't want to, but he was like, i wasn't working out. i went to him and said, dad, don't do it. i want to come back. i want to -- taking on the responsibility of telling my dad don't sell -- like give up that opportunity. it just brought something out in me. i needed more than just doing it for me. not that i did it for him but i needed to know i made that commitment. sometimes you have to do what i call put a stake in the ground where there's no margin of failure. that's what happened to me. the game changer for me, i was maybe afraid of having children. i had them later in life. it's been the greatest joy. the very thing sometimes you're

now to help me i'm stuck, from careers to relationships. we'll help a couple of women get out of their beauty rut. we have mally roncal, creator of mally beauty. let's get to our makeovers and let's start with a look at darcy's story, first. >> i'm a 34-year-old single lady living in las vegas. i teach physical education. my wardrobe is a sweatshirt and ponytail every day. this is my closet. these ones i wear for working

out every morning i got these in 1997. >> we do the turkey trot, 5k together, a million ugly sweatshirts that i threw away. >> i've got four or five of these beautiful turkey trot shirts. i don't think my style has changed too much from high school. help me. i'm stuck. >> all right, darcy. we're ready to see you. come on out, girl. show us what you've got. all right. this is darcy. look at her now! oh, my gosh! she was hiding this body under those sweats. >> amazing. >> that is crazy. lori, let's start with you. what did you do? >> she looks incredible. >> yeah. >> first of all, darcy said she had only worn a dress a handful of times. really when we found out that this body was hiding under those t-shirts and jeans, we really wanted to show it off. the tip here is really look for one of your best assets. for darcy, it's her waist. it is teeny tiny.

we chose this dress because it has a fit and flare capability. everybody looks good in this dress, right? >> exactly. >> wide belt. >> my waist is not that good but yeah. >> details putting it all together. we add some pops of color. everybody needs that little black dress. we gave her pop around the belt to again accentuate that. we threw a little leopard print pump on there. it elevates the look. i think this is something that darcy will get a lot of use out of. at the end of the day we want darcy to be happy. >> all right, josh -- or harry rather, what did you do? >> she is a gym teacher i really took that into consideration when coming up with a look for her. i wanted something that was not just for today but for her life. the fact that she's going to wear her hair up in a ponytail inevitably every day, the bangs will bring her to a total 2013 modern look. we darkened her hair color. her eyes are so beautiful and so blue. she never colored it before.

>> and that's your latest weather. willie? >> all right, al. thank you very much. with us in studio this morning, two women who say they are stuck. they work full-time jobs while also working on passion projects they hope will pay off for them. nurse darlene procter wants to make her business party styling boutique of catering events a full time job. and taking her business of photography to the next level. donny deutsch is here to help us out. we came with baked goods and beautiful photographs. darlene, let me start with you. tell me about the business, where it is now and where you want it to go. >> where it is now is it's still in my home. growing a little bit at a time while i'm still in culinary school i decided to take some classes at the community college in their program to learn more

about the business. where i would like it to go is brick and mortar and for it to become my full-time job. >> you do a little bit of everything, party planning, baking? >> event planning as well. >> first impression? >> firstly, you've done the hard part. you are a road map to take that first step. while you have your current job, start to take one foot in is the hard thing, that's number one. number two, you're doing what you're passionate about, which i love. so my advice to you is every place you go now, every party you have, every -- even the customers who are at the party, say, hey, here's my card. everybody, every musician that's there, gv them your card and say, oh, by the way, i'll give you 10% of everybody you send to me. make everybody around you ambassadors. don't be shy with friends and family. let everybody know this is what i'm doing. the great news is that you've done the hard part. i want to say to everybody at home you don't have to blow up your life. you can basically keep your current job, if you're a

full-time mom you don't have to give that up. just an hour aweek, two hours a week, start. you'll be amazed what happens. >> you're working a ton of hours, francis, a banking job and now this side project. how do you manage it all? >> i just work a ton. i work 40 hours a week as a manager at one of our local banks and pretty much from the time i get home until i go to bed i kind of balance it all and get it done and shoot weddings on the weekends. >> is this a case of you not loving the job you're in or more just wanting to branch out and doing is that you're truly passionate about? >> i absolutely love the job i'm in. i would love to do this full time. i have been extremely grateful to have a fantastic team i work with at the bank that's been super supportive. i just would love to be more of a creative outlet and do that full time. >> what's the point at which frances should make the leap full time? >> you say i work all night long. you probably can't home to do it.

the answer is when you do it -- there's no one answer when you are making 50% or 60% as much. when you follow your gut and see, okay, now i've done 50 clients with photography, next you're you'll do 100. my rule of thumb is wops you're somewhere between half and 60% of the income you're making from your regular job, it's just going to get better. i want everybody to look at her face at home. she's now working 80 hours a week, but she's loving it. if it's what you love, it's not work anymore. just do it, man. >> darlene, did you learn anything from donny you'll use as soon as you get back? >> it's encouraging to know i have my foot in the door. >> you've done the hard part. let's go! >> coach donny, giving the locker room speech. we'll dig in to some of this. big success to the both of you. keep chasing your dreams. >> thank you. >> up next, getting your love life back on track after this. i'm phyllis, and i have diabetic nerve pain. when i first felt the diabetic nerve pain,

you've gotten great experience and you want to list it in a way that lists your accomplishments, maybe not a chronological resume, which is the typical, but a nice, professional profile, talking about why somebody should hire you based on the skills you've acquired. >> and skills that could transfer as well. >> absolutely. >> it's not just what you know but it is really who you know? >> yes. 80% of jobs are gotten through networking. that's a really high number. you really want to mind those important things like your alumni associations are fabulous. a lot of colleges and universities are really working toward helping alumni get jobs. definitely go back, meet with alumni, interviews and professional associations as well. i know you're a member of some. i know you're in houston now. >> yes. >> there are lots of chapters. i did some research for you, from marketing associations, professional associations and even your chamber of commerce is a great way to meet contacts. >> thank you. good luck, ladies. we'll check back in with you.
