admitting to the shooting of a perry hall classmate of the first day of class as. we have more from the circuit court. this happened shortly before the jury selection started. >> jury selection was just about to get underway. we've been in court for a couple hours and it seemed like federal jurors were about to walk into the courtroom and that's when the extent the deal after he talked to his mother. when he fired a double barrel shotgun into a crowded cafeteria at perry hall high school, 15- year old robert gladden jr. said he was trying to make a statement that the world was messed up. his statement tuesday, his admission of guilt. >> it's not something anybody can be happy about. what has happened is there is going to be justice. >> he pleaded guilty to first- degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a crime. he admitted to firing a weapon on august 27, the first day of school. the shotgun blast a special need

student in the back. his father says he is pleasantly surprised by what happened in court. nice if he said and met he was sorry. it would be nice, but i know at this point in time that he hasn't said it. >> during a recent hearing, the boy made his case to try to get transferred to juvenile court, telling the judge taking a gun to court was the dumbest of stupidest decision he's ever made in his life. the judge didn't think he was remorseful and was a danger to public safety and denied the transfer. now, he gets to sentence the team. prosecutors are seeking a life prison term but the judge says if he accepts that, he will probably suspend all but 40 years. >> he has made a judgment as to what he believes is a fair sentence. he is not committed to 40. he made it clear he is not going

to give him greater than 40 years. >> somewhere, i hope he finds the meaning of love and the meaning of life. life is precious. gladden's attorney did not -- it did not comment today. the judge says he may consider that he go to the institute. >> loyalists -- lawyers for michael johnson are asking for a new trial. one argument, they say prosecutors failed to tell jurors that their star witness was in jail in baltimore county at the time the news broke about the rest. prosecutors say he was in jail and had no access to facts about the case. lawyers also claimed a felony charge was mysteriously dropped

after he met with investigators. a hearing could be set within 10 days. >> the city police training academy resumed limited operations today of one week after a treaty was accidently shot. all people investigations are underway but you answers have come to life. >> that commissioners own driver, a part-time training instructor was that rosewood the day of the shooting. the commissioner is ordering a full review of how all weapons are used in training and on the street. >> we are falling about the tragedy that occurred last week. >> standing in front of a flag that reads welcome to one of america's finest police academies, the commissioner moved to do something about the shooting of a treaty last week. >> we have a procedural breakdown and our systems and we are moving to correct those and

insure our employees are safe. >> he introduced a new training director that takes over and a limited police trading resumed today. >> academics only. any skills training will be postponed until we have had an adequate time to review all policies. >> please it -- the police instructor was trying to discourage trainees from peeking through a window when he mistakenly used his service weapon instead of his training weapon to make this point and fired a live round through the window, hitting the trainee in the forehead. he declined to answer key questions like why was there the supervisor on scene and how, they weren't aware of the facility was being used. a broad internal investigation is underway and state police are doing a criminal and best -- criminal investigation. the doctors have said he is

progressing better than expected but it's going to be a long road. when you have that type of injuries he has sustained, you can never be too sure we are out of the woods. >> according to documents we received one hour ago, baltimore county also uses the center for training under a written agreement that strictly prohibits the use of live weapons. the state has declined to answer whether any such agreement exists with the city. county police say three people were shot, one of them fatally, while standing near a bus stop just before midnight in the 2100 block of eastern road. persons responsible opened fire. a man who died was a 27-year- old. a 27-old woman and 26-year-old man were also shot. all three victims were acquaintances.

>> state police are hoping for a break in the murder of an eastern shore student. the 21-year-old was stabbed to death on the eastern shore campus. the motive appears to be the result of an argument or ongoing dispute. the weekend incident and murder of the college park city last week is raising concern from those in the law-enforcement community. >> what it all boils down to is the campus community wants to be safe and everyone has to be a part of that. we don't ask people to be police officers but we ask them to let us know what is going on so we can be proactive. >> in the recent death on the eastern shore, police are looking for three unidentified male suspects in their late teens or early 20s. anyone with information is urged to call a maryland state police. bowl championship is going to cost fans a little more this upcoming season.

>> a gas tax increase is on a table. today, house republicans attacked the plan and offered an alternative. let's bill alive now to the state house for the latest. >> a war of harsh words broke out today. the senate president called house republicans neanderthals in their thinking, labeling them obstructionists' whose job is to say no. off the charts -- soaring gas prices have drivers fuming. >> it's obscene.

i'm not happy with it all. >> aaa says gas prices have jumped as much as 40 cents in the last month. >> it's unprecedented. >> house republicans are trying to put the brakes on talk of increasing the gas tax or sales tax to pay for transportation needs. the gop contends the problem by lack of money but how is spent and the fund is used as a piggy bank. >> to align our spending with the needs of merrill lenders, a more balanced approach between how we fund mass transit and the final element is to restore the money that has been taken off from the transportation trust fund which totals about a billion dollars. >> democrat acknowledged that it took firefighters 78 million out of the trust fund that paid $600 million back. ae state scaled-back about billion dollars of user fee money said to be separate from a trust fund. >> if we paid that back, but the

onetime head and that does not in any way come near it solving the transportation problems. >> the independent from of legislation once the state is in danger of running out of money for new transportation projects by 2017. a senate committee is set to hear a package submitted by the senate president who applies a 3 cent sales tax on gas and allows local jurisdictions to tack on another 5 cents per gallon. if that is not impose, the state could collect the difference. the bill provides a car out for baltimore city with authorities able to spend gas tax dollars of school construction. it also creates transit of the districts that would have the authority to raise money for light rail. but the legislation contains another tax hike. tax, addition to a gas they would be allowed to raise a property tax as well. now we're looking at two separate taxes.

>> where is the governor on this? the governor has always preferred raising the sales tax and diverting that to transportation but has not submitted a bill. aides say he's in active discussions. earlier in the day when temperatures were cold enough and the rain was mixed with wet snow, we have lingering showers moving across the interstate 95 corridor. once that clears the region, that will be it for our area. in the mountains, the cold air will continue to generate snow showers. while the rate leaves the central and eastern part of this date, the rain is kicking and because of a strong cold front headed this way. the reader on the air for -- the raiders and the airport was not that substantial. a bit of a deficit for the month and year, about 0.15 inches

twenties, teens and to chicago. cold, snowy conditions in the mountains. sunny but windy and cold and to the mountains. on friday, the next weather system begins to approach. that means the potential for a wintry mix again on a friday afternoon. we have cloudy skies but later in the day, snow, sleet, and freezing rain is a possibility. tomorrow, partly cloudy skies with winds gusting over 20 miles an hour and temperatures at 33- 38. a gale warning for the day tomorrow with winds gusting over 35 knots. that gets a 2-3 foot chop on the day. the bayday across tomorrow. the wind brings in the cold and snow. when the chilled below zero and 29 with sunny skies.

on the eastern shore, a nice, sunny couple of days but temperatures below normal. blustery conditions for a couple of days. 35 tomorrow, 40 on thursday but lots of sunshine. friday, the cloud the increase in the morning and afternoon with rain, sleet and snow and freezing rain. scattered rain showers on saturday. then another storm of what arrives early next week. earlyther storm arrives next week. >> it's hard to say what it means in terms of job responsibilities, but brady anderson now has a shorter job title and brighter future in the front office. it's a risk -- he returned to the team and officially to train younger players and was named special assistant to the vice president of operations. not the title that easily fits on a business card. that he was promoted to vice president baseball operations.

the general manager says it's an expanded role for anderson but chris going to details davis has proven his value as a guy who can fill in the void. he played a much higher level of defense than most expected. this spring, he shifts back to e infield. high and pounded a career 33 home runs last season along with 85 rbis. if he can keep that up, he could make first base the power base in his lineup. >> it was huge. not only to play every day but to do it on a winning team, there were a lot of guys that took strides in the right direction as a team. we did really well. we weren't satisfied and it was good to get that experience last year and have it going into this year. >> the terrapins have the chance

to leverage national attention with the upset of the then-and no. 2 ranked duke daredevil's. six games left for the regular season, including tonight. if they finish a strong one, they will get plenty of consideration for a spot in the n.c.a.a. tournament. but if they come out flat, they could be dismissed as a one hit wonder after beating duke. inconsistency has plagued the team from much of the season. against duke win can raise that tag. >> we have not been as disciplined as we need to be as a team and as a program. keep grinding it and that some point they will get but you can just try to be more consistent.
