consulate in lahore. officials say this threat is not related to the one that temporarily shut down 19 u.s. embassies in the middle east and through africa on wednesday. the u.s. embassy in yemen was shut down thursday after a terror threat there. and u.s. drone strikes intensified the situation in yemen. 12 officials were killed. it was a result of communication between high level al qaeda leaders suggesting a terror threat. military officials report 34 suspected al qaeda militants have been killed in eight drone attacks in less than three weeks. one of the powerball winners says he's been waiting his entire life for this day. he's a father of two and an engineer from minnesota. he's one of the three winners of the powerball lottery. he chose the lump sum. he'll get about $53 million when

into missouri. we've done this now four mornings in a row. as we go throughout the morning hours, these storms will weaken. we have the chance of producing additional flash flooding concerns. especially there north of tulsa to springfield. we have a lot of heavy rain yesterday, areas of northern jersey, flash flood washes in areas of new england. heavy rain from albany heading across the cat skills. then this afternoon, it's going rain hard again in this region. we have a couple spots that could deal with flash flooding. also, just like yesterday afternoon, we could deal with significant airport delays with heavy rain and because of the thunderstorms in this region. now, as far as your friday forecast goes, we're looking for a nice, dry day. minneapolis to chicago, much of the great lakes. we're still very hot in texas. in the southeast, we're going to have more typical afternoon variety storms out there. i'll have the weekend forecast coming up. but if you're in the southeast, probably not going to like me much. tease your national forecast. now here is a look at the weather outside your window.

a lot of people are saying what happened to summer? where is summer? when is it going to feel like summer? in the southeast where it's been raining and cool much of the summer, that looks to continue this weekend. i apologize for that. still very hot, though, in the desert southwest. that heat wave we had three or four weeks ago seems like a long time now. >> it seems like every couple of years you have a summer that's a best. which i hate. >> you love it. you're in your glory for those three weeks. what are you going to do. a facebook murder confession complete with pictures. the president prepare toes meet the test and a sobriety test unlike anything we've seen. was he sober or just pretending? not pretending very well. >> i like it.

his cancellation of talks with russia's vladimir putin and recent terror threats both expected to be front and center. tracie potts joins us live in washington with a preview. >> reporter: good morning, everyone. it's not unusual to have this august press conference. congress is gone. his republican critics are gone. the president takes the spotlight and can make headlines here. there's a huge agenda for this. he has a lot to talk about internationally, our involvement in the unrest in syria and in egypt, but even more recently, this terror threat that has shut down 19 embassies and a separate one as you just noted that shut down the embassy in pakistan. what is going on abroad and what is the u.s. doing to fight terror? that is likely to be a big topic today, not to mention the cancellation of the russian summit with president putin and what that does for u.s. relations. what is going on with edward snowden? is he ever going to make it back here to face charges?

the president will address a lot of those issues today. while his relationship with putin seems frosty right now, we have two russian officials who are coming here to washington to meet with the russian counterparts at the state and defense departments later today. mara. >> tracie potts in washington, thanks. nbc news will have live coverage of the president's news conference at 3:00 p.m. eastern time right here on this nbc station. and now to some other stories making news this morning, the trial of self-admitted ft. hood shooter nadal hasan resumed on thursday after the judge said he was allowed to continue representing himself. a sergeant told the jury about the shooting and how she had to decide who she could save and who she couldn't. she said there were so many bodies, she couldn't tell who was dead and who was alive. two college students have been convicted of obstruction

charges. they have being accused of trying to dispose of evidence from a dorm room. their attorneys claim their clients did nothing wrong. a south carolina man is under arrest after posting a picture of his wife's body on facebook. the man wrote, quote, i'm going prison or death sentence for killing my wife. miami dade police have charged the man with first degree murder. president obama and his wife took time to celebrate his 52nd birthday thursday night. here is your reminder not to drink and drive as we head into the weekend. police pulled over a suspected drunk driver in ohio who, instead of walking a straight line, decided to start dancing the line. and, yep, the man's blood alcohol content was three times over the legal limit. that man doesn't look drunk at all. in health news, they must be putting something in maria's water. meet maria martin.

welcome back. let me take you through your weekend forecast. the main concern today heading into the weekend is the heavy rain heading for missouri. the possibility of more flash flooding. in the east, we'll have the possibility of major airport problems later this afternoon with heavy rain. as we go through the weekend, the boundary slips to the south. new england will be dry on saturday. indeed, from the carolinas through atlanta, a good chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. they should be really nice, drying it out in the flood zone by saturday. by sunday, not a lot changes. we're going to be watching the
