city. firefighters rescued more than 200 residents with boats. with school in session those that went to school were safe as buses diverted from flooded areas. >> i screamed at my husband it's coming in the house and then it started coming out of the house. >> reporter: a rescue worker wearing a helmet camera captured video as he evacuated those trapped in wilson county, tennessee. tennessee isn't the only state dealing with massive flash flooding. parts of a trailer park in missouri swept away. more than 100 homes and businesses are damaged by water that crested the turkey creek bay. >> there was nothing you could do. the current was too strong. >> reporter: two days of torrential rain dumped 15 inches leading to widespread road closures. flash flooding also hit parts of georgia where 10 inches of rain washed out several roads. officials say it's too early to know when they will all reopen.

wild weather throughout much of the country leaving folks, in a word, miserable. >> i don't know what's going on with the weather these days but it's not good. >> reporter: two dozen people spent the night in red cross shelters. many more stayed with family and friends. this is going to be a miserable clean up for a lot of folks here, savannah. >> kerry sanders in nashville, thank you. al has more on the flooding and what to expect today. good morning. >> i'll tell you, savannah, the folks that don't need it will get more today. we had over the last week the dome of hot air, big high pressure, cooler, drier air coming down. so the moisture rides up and over the dome and in between the two that's a battle zone and that's where the severe weather is happening and that's what we're expecting today. so as we show you what's going on, we are looking at more rain, more thunderstorms. we got flash flood watches and flood watches from oklahoma all the way into missouri and arkansas for more rain. latest radar shows you those showers and thunderstorms continue to push in and, in

fact, the flash flood watches extend into the northeast. however, closer to missouri that's what we're looking at right now. the severe weather pushing out of oklahoma into southern missouri. so the flood zone is going to see more rain today. about two to three inches of rain before it's all over in the next 48 hours. locally up to 3 to 5 inches in northern arkansas into southern missouri but that rain is going to expand into the east. we're looking at more flooding rains into the northeast with 2 to 3 inches of rain there. we'll have more on that coming up. thanks. we'll keep an eye on that. that rain could come in handy in southern california where crews are struggling against a massive wildfire that's spreading too fast to contain. miguel almaguer is there with the latest. how is it looking out there. >> willie, good morning. burning through forest land this fire is difficult to see from communities that are under a threat but we can smell the smoke in the air. it charred across 14,000 square

to hunger games activities. dozens of kids participated. this video was taken by the tampa bay times. but when the story hit the website with the headline at hunger games camp, children want to fight to the death, it spread quickly all across the internet and so did the controversy among readers. one calling it murder as children's entertainment. another writing this is disgusting. but camp organizers say there was no violence. kids grabbed flags from each other to collect rather than take lives. the emphasis was on communication and working together. >> avoiding the violence that is within many of the great books is not how you stop violence. you help steer children through the understanding of it. that's how you do it. >> reporter: the tampa bay times says we published a fair and accurate story about what we saw. noting several times that camp leaders tried to steer the children away from violent

ever. >> reporter: but for her first two years her home was in south carolina with her adoive parents. the bitter custody battle started in 2009 when veronica's parents split up. her biological mother asked brown to give her custody. brown agreed writing in a text message i think that i will just sign my rites away and he later signed the paperwork. about to deploy to iraq, brown said he never realized his daughter could be put up for adoption. >> i never knew what i was signing. i just thought that i was just signing, you know, for her to have full custody, you know, be able to make all the right decisions for my daughter while i was gone. >> reporter: in 2011 a south carolina court ruled that brown who is a member of the cherokee nation should have custody of his daughter under a federal law which seeks to keep native american children with their parents. >> the case went to the supreme court that ruled that the

didn't know the baby would be adopted. what do you make of that? >> well, the first thing i would say is this case has been fully litigated and that has been of course part of the legal and factual inquiry all the way up to the supreme court and back. the fact of the matter is that he doesn't even contest the fact that he was fully prepared to and aware of the fact that he was giving up all parental rights. it's just that he expected veronica's birth mother to raise veronica herself. you know, veronica had been born for months and months and months by the time he learned of the adoption and the reason for that is that he was out of their lives. she was pregnant, you know, pacing an unplanned pregnancy, a single mom of two. and she had toome up with a plan for her child. >> let me ask you about veronica because in family court they always say it's the best interest of the child and i assume that is what is most important to you. do you worry about this transition? she was with you for two years.
