medical staff. officials are now stepping up security. >> officials with johns hopkins medical center acknowledge that there have been a number of robberies and an assault in the last couple of weeks in off- campus areas. they tell us now they are going to do all they can to keep residents around here safe, and employees, by beefing up security and taking other measures. there is no doubt about it, the hopkins medical campus in east baltimore is expanding by leaps and bounds. of that growth, there are now renewed concerns about safety. >> i had heard about incidents, but i have not seen or heard anything personally. weeks,he past couple of three off-campus incidents have raised concern, including a cell phone theft, a robbery, and an assault. were warneds through e-mail. >> i have never had any problem and i see security around quite

are hearing testimony from an expert about the mental of the defendant. called a forensic psychiatrist who claims that carla porter had to mental disorders. called a rebuttal witness who disagreed with that finding. 'se jury in carla porter murder for hire trial was listening to her testimony on the witness stand, along with audio and video recordings made as part of the police investigation. now they are listening to the testimony of experts. one identified carla's profile as consistent with one who suffered repeated abuse in the context of her marriage. earlier, dr. neil bloomberg, a psychiatrist,

and is extremely heavy on irvine avenue. there have been a couple of minor incidents that are causing issues as well. >> thank you. maryland state police are going to have to figure out how to get a 650 thousand pound transformer over several bridges, passed ,hrough seven in carroll county and eventually into pennsylvania. troopers tell us they have had to delay the trip because it is significantly over the typical weight. the transformer came from mexico, arriving by barge in baltimore. police say they are working to obtain a number of permits for and will have to reinforce bridges as well as one major artery along the way. there is no word on exactly when the trip will take place. >> political insiders say

part of0 still getting the downpour. we have isolated storms left over into southern prince george's county. is pushing activity east of baltimore city. this is all part of the development we are going to have to worry about during the afternoon, especially as you start to see the skies clear out in places like westminster. it means the atmosphere is priming up again, allowing for more thunderstorms to develop. this is something we will have to watch for, at least through sunset tonight. the cold front is just starting to push into western maryland. you can see more storms in garrett county, moving into allegheny county as well. the entire area is vulnerable and the thunderstorm could pop up at any time. we are going to see much drier

air move in for the weekend. it is going to be a gradual clearing. for tonight, storms through 9 p.m. for baltimore steering. in the southern area of the state, this will take a little longer to clear out. drier air starts to move in saturday and sunday. futurecast helping us timeout these showers. we should see mostly dry conditions throughout the late- night hours into early tomorrow. there is still going to be a lot of cloud cover around even tomorrow as the second piece of the cold front tries to make its way through. for that reason, we cannot rule out a shower saturday morning, but we should see clearing skies by saturday afternoon. basically, it will be a dividing line between stormy weather to the south and less humid, more comfortable air to the north.

there is an indication you will have great weather for the weekend in northern baltimore. the storm earning -- the southern part of the state will still have to worry about thunderstorms. a look at our seven-day forecast shows how monday is still mostly dry. something isolated could pop up late in the day. i won't worry too much about that at this point. tuesday looks like the next chance for storms, but overall, it is a much drier pattern. >> summer is usually the time for relaxation, and less you are looking to start the u.s. naval academy. up next, the class of 2017 takes a nice, deep breath. >> who says there aren't hard- working teenagers out there it you go you are looking at them --

thunderstorms moved through baltimore city at 4:30 p.m. that brought the temperatures down. airportown to 80 at the , 81 downtown, 86 in parkville. are of the temperatures already bouncing back. we are in the mid-80's along the eastern shore. very humid out there as well. the heat and humidity is adding fuel for the thunderstorms. it is still in the low 90's by the river. here is a look at where the thunderstorms are right now. this is the batch that moved through baltimore city, dropping about an inch of rain in some spots. there is a lot of lightning with this, heavy rain, and dusty winds. this will continue to push eased past the delaware line. further down to the south, we have been watching more scattered storms from anne

arundel county to charles county. we do have a severe thunderstorm warning at this point. this under storm cell has the potential of producing hail and damaging wind on top of the heavy rain and lightning. this will continue to track east. be very careful in that area. you want to go inside. if you know someone who lives down there, you may want to give them a call and make sure they are taking shelter. sun is breaking out, and that is never a good sign on a day like today where the atmosphere is primed for thunderstorms. any additional heat we get is going to make things more favorable for thunderstorms. down.d not let your guard if you have outdoor plants, definitely keep an eye to the sky. use your smart phone to get weather alerts. our wbal app does alert you when a warning is issued.
