>> reporter: the leak seemed to push russian relations to a post cold war low. president obama has now canceled the meeting with russian president vladimir putin originally scheduled for next month. some lawmakers want a stronger gesture. >> mr. putin does not have united states' russia relationships in any priority. and treating them in a realistic fashion. that's the way to treat mr. putin, not just canceling a meeting. >> reporter: snowden's father continues to defend his son who he is prepared to visit him in russia after recently securing the papers he needs to travel. smanl lifts argue that the president shouldn't be tougher with russia and instead work on restoring that relationship. especially as the u.s. confronts unrest in places like syria and egypt. a grim milestone in afghanistan this year. the military says insurgents killed three u.s. servicemen sunday ten years after nato took

command of international forces in afghanistan. that brings the total of troops killed there to 100. well, authorities in central voluntary colorado are still searching for a woman seen clinging to a tree during a massive mud slide friday. new video shows water gushing at almost 30 miles an hour pouring down highways and residential streets in the tourist town of manitou springs. at least one person was killed about 40 cars were swept up in this river of mud. nbc's dylan dwyer is here to look at it. those pictures are stunning. >> that's the same area that the wald douwaldo canyon fire. it's the monsoonal moisture that

comes through the rockies. we're keeping an eye out for potential flooding in the plain states, right along this stationary front which is an area that is going to city more rain, especially as we continue through the afternoon. that cold front, though, is also going to bring the chance of thunderstorms just to the north of it. the best chance of severe storms will be right across parts of oklahoma and kansas. biggest threat, though, will be for damaging winds and also large hail and we co-also see heavier downpours in an area that does not need more rain. now here's a look at the weather outside your window. in boston, 79 degrees, partly cloudy, low humidity, not too bad. 89 in recall lay, north carolina with late-day thunderstorms. pittsburgh should top out around 82 today. we're in the 90s in houston, texas but that is some relief from the triple digits. 79 in minneapolis. so we are still watching the areas in the plain states. also arkansas and missouri. tomorrow, they're going to get
