high school math bidders are getting the jump on the s.a.t.'s. they are learning the skills and work habits they will need for college. the latest statewide sat scores are so important. maryland is down four points, two in math and two in writing. reading scores remained the same. the number of students taking the s.a.t.'s is. that is not by accident. >> we provide s.a.t.'s for every asior in the county schools another way to provide opportunities. >> they have turned to the avid program. it stands for advancement via individual determination. a college revenue system paying off for some students already. i set first, i did not have any idea how to do the s.a.t.'s. now that we have sat prep and avid, which helps a lot, because now we have a tutorial once a week. that will help us in all of our classes. centered andent

here is something you do not see often at all in the weather department. we will show you the advertising today and the actual highs of the day. rarely do they match up like this. the actual high and low were spot on, right exactly normal for this time of year. 74 is the high at the airport. that is average. 53 is the morning low. ackley average over the past 30 years. 95 is the record high. 40 is the record low. that has been on the books for a while. it goes all the way back to 1879. 71 in parkville, 71, and 71 in columbia. on the eastern shore, temperatures are comfortable. a couple of things are happening to keep temperatures down. probably an ocean temperature close to 69 or 70 degrees. clout -- cloud coverage, keeping the temperature down a bit here in the area of low pressure developing with showers and an impressive cloud coverage in the atlantic.

brushing up against the beaches on the lower eastern shore, the system looks like it will drift farther out to sea tonight. coastal areas and you are sure will be dealing with some of the areas in the high clouds in the area more clouds to the east of your toward the coast where fog might form overnight and possibly even a little sprinkle could develop on the western fringe of all the activity. farther to say, the east you go, the more clouds overnight. tomorrow, high pressure is still sitting up here pushing up and then building down into the mid- atlantic. this will be the dominant weather feature for friday, saturday, and sunday. slow moving and falling a part a bit. expect is all we can a sprinkle or two. tomorrow, early morning clouds and fog. sunny skies in the afternoon. we will repeat that for saturday and sunday. a beautiful weather pattern holding us.

"nightly news" begins now. good evening. the americans have now arrive uhhuh in force. dozens are on the scene of the massacre in nairobi, kenya. the troubles news today. another attack in kenya. this one killed two police officers and the worry here, obviously, is this terrorist group al shabaab is making it known that they are on the rise. and there's been an international arrest warrant issued for a british woman with

a nickname out of a spy novel. she's known as the white widow. officials say they want to know of any involvement she might have had in what happened in kenya. we begin again tonight with nbc's ron allen in nairobi where there's been some activity tonight, i understand, ron. >> reporter: indeed, brian. good evening. tonight we heard several loud explosions and saw fire at the mall site down the road behind me there. investigators say it is the hard work of clearing away ieds, bombs and explosives the militants left behind. the devastation of the west gate mall up close. new pictures today show the parking structure in ruins, still smoldering. what caused this much damage? authorities aren't saying. meanwhile intense speculation about this woman, samantha lewthwaite of britain, once married to a london subway bomber. she's known as the white widow.

she may now be the most wanted woman in the world. today at kenya's request interpol issued a warrant for her arrest. in connection with a 2011 plot to bomb targets in ten i can't. no known connection to the mall attack but unconfirmed reports of a white woman among the gunmen. in kenya near the somalia border, another attack. two kenyan police officers killed. al shabaab again claiming responsibility. while at the mall itself investigators, including fbi agents, looked for clues, trying to piece together exactly what happened here. >> this program has learned from multiple sources the identities of two of the attackers. >> reporter: tonight a british tv report says a former kenyan special forces soldier, also a convert to islam, linked to al shabaab, led the assault. how big a threat is al shabaab? >> groups like al shabaab are the new face of al qaeda. the attack we saw in nairobi

represent s the worst face. what we have to make sure is that the threats re main regionally focused and not towards the west and the united states. >> reporter: al shabaab has claimed some americans participated in the mall attack, but there's been no evidence of that so far. >> we don't have any verifiable information that would indicate one way or the other whether any americans were involved. >> reporter: as the questions pile up, kenya's grief continues. there were multiple funerals again today. as people here found comfort in stories of survival uh and powerful images of heroic rescues and lives saved. tonight there is more late-breaking information regarding the case involving the so-called white widow. nbc news has learned british authorities are seeking dna samples from members of her family as the investigation moves forward. brian? >> ron allen starting us off again from nairobi, kenya.
