of the shutdown. the military has suspended all intercollegiate sports activities. navy cap practicing yesterday because a decision is not expected until thursday. employees had. to be furloughed on campus a number of classes are for not without instructors. we can use military instructors that are resident those classes this week. we anticipate there'll be some class we have to cancel as a result of the shutdown. >> there is a partisan support for legislation that would provide backpay for furloughed workers during the time the government is shut down. whenever there has been a shutdown, back pay has always been approved. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you.

if you do not like the warm weather, it is not terribly humid. 62 in chestertown on the eastern shore. some of you i want to take a light jacket. the dew points are still in the 50's. it will not feel uncomfortable. we do not have the humidity problem. we have all this warm air coming in from the southern plains. a front will go through tonight or tomorrow. the beginnings of a big storm out in the rocky mountains which could drop 6, 12 inches of snow into the rockies and northern plains. it will be dry and warm on the east coast. nothing showing up on the satellite this morning. just a few high, thin clouds in the mountains.

let's start with hallie jackson. what is on tap for lawmakers today? >> republicans in the house may parts ofopen small government that were shut down yesterday. that approach went nowhere last night. several votes failed. many democrats believe all of the government should be funded. there could be a closure that lasts weeks. some lawmakers suggest a deal which would include a deal to raise the debt ceiling. that could happen on october 17. we could see both of these issues wrapped up together. >> what other action could we see in congress today? >> the house may try to revote including reopening the national

parks and allow the district of columbia to use locally generated revenue to keep functioning. they may also take a vote on restarting cancer research. >> hallie jackson, thank you. academic lives are hanging in the balance at the naval academy. jennifer franciotti joins us live from annapolis. i understand the football team is having some problems because of the shutdown. >> they are still practicing and hoping to play their game against air force. football, wes to are learning how widespread the shut down here is in maryland. the u.s. military has suspended all intercollegiate sports

activities. that could force the cancellation of the navy-air force game this weekend in annapolis. a decision is not expected until thursday. from athletics to academics, the naval academy has had to fu people.35 they are right now without instructors. >> we can use military instructors that are resident here to cover those classes this week. we anticipate there'll be some classes we have to cancel as a result of the shutdown. unique position. they are dual status worker who worse furloughed during the sequester and now faces the shutdown. >> really just received a full paycheck about two weeks ago.
