have to go before a judge, however. >> and a monster truck on a destructive mission. why it is all part of a plan to boost the economy. >> live in high definition, from wbff tv in baltimore, this is fox 45 news "late edition". >> hello again i am jeff barnd. >> and i am karen parks. convicted felon on the loose tonight. >> he escaped custody after assaulting a sheriff's deputy. the sheriff's office said 20-year-old devon champagne had just been convicted on felony theft charges and was being transported around 11:30 last night. during the ride from the courthouse to the jail. champagne reportedly attacked the deputy using handcuffs to choke the man. and struck him and tried to steal his weapon before climbing out the cruiser window. his family said champagne then stopped at home briefly before going on the run again. >> we have had trouble here in the past. this is not the first time the place have been here. >> i hope they find him and put

him where he is spotted supposed to be. i hope. >> sheriff's office said it will launch a review in to how champagne was able to pull off the escape in the first place. >> at this time, before we do a capital review, we believe every rules and regulation was followed. always room for improvement. concerned with the safety of the officer, and citizens of howard county. >> the deputy is in stable condition at this time. champagne meantime is facing charges, including attempted murder and assault. >> first to on fox. two teenagers caught on tape shooting a man at a carry out. our sentence today. you recall the video of a bystander targeted in a robbery and then shot. witnesses are seen laughing. 15-year-old kevin johnson and 17-year-old david jefferson pled guilty to several charges, including attempted murder. johnson received nine years. jefferson got seven. >> it was sad because he could have done more, got more time. >> it is the incident that

happened. everybody makes mistakes. >> the victim, marvin edmunds still walks with a limp. he was not at the sentencing. >> and the trigger man in the carl lackl murder case will spend 40 years behind bars. 18-year-old jonathan cordish learned his fate today. member of the bloods gang, he was 15 when he shot lackl out of his home in 2007. lackl has been set to testify against patrick byers in a murder case, when buyers ordered the hit from jail. cordish is the last of eight defendants convicted in the death. >> olympic champion michael phelps involved in a crash in downtown baltimore. and tonight police released a report and say it is not his fault. the driver of the other car will be cited for failure to obey a red slight and causing an accident. $180 fine, with three points on her license. michael phelps was also cited, police say he was driving his cadillac escalade on an expired michigan license. >> he will be going to court and talk to the judge and explain

townhall meeting in montana this afternoon was much calmer than most. but the president denounced the focus on angry protestors at townhall meetings saying television loves the raucous. president spoke for about 30 minutes before taking questions. >> what we need to do is come up with a uniquely american way of providing care. so i am not in favor of canadian system. i am not in favor of a british system. or a french system. >> the president has another townhall meeting tomorrow in colorado. >> undoubtly many u.s. lawmakers cannot wait for the recess to end. because town halls are tougher than the comfortable confines of the u.s. capital where reckless spending has become sport. we continue with political pulse with former maryland governor robert ehrlich. >> cardin is popular, been around forever, right, house of delegates. house of representatives. and what he saw the other night is probably surprising to him.

health care reform is the overwhelming amount of red tape involved. three house committees are working on hr 3200. more than 1000 pages in length. senator cardin of maryland held a townhall meeting in salisbury thursday, one person said it was just too confusing. >> why on earth, are you producing a health care bill that has so many pages in it, and such complex wording, that we cannot understand it? >> i think, we have a responsibility to answer as many of the specific questions that are out there as possible. >> senators have yet to have a bill on the floor of the upper chamber. >> this brings us to the question of the day. is the health care reform plan too complicated? at last check, 77 percent say yes. 23 percent say no. patricia from baltimore writes, why can't there be a comprehensive interpretation of the health care reform? all the people want are answers to the questions. to read more of your responses

state of maryland. and that's the way things stay. further south, you could run into rain showers. as we have the stationary front sitting to the south. that will allow for clouds and rain showers to fire up, if you are traveling toward virginia beach and or ocean city. this weekend. and as it will stay just to the south. but further north you go to maryland and pennsylvania, you will be fine adjustment dry in sunny weather. all thanks to the high pressure in control. and once we are on the back side of the high pressure system, tomorrow to sunday, temperatures will get close to 90 degrees. but look toward sunday, around 1:00. that stationary boundary is allowing for rain showers to develop towards the southern portions of the delmarva peninsula, and virginia and southern portions of maryland as well. so just a slight chance for an isolated rain shower in the vicinity on sunday. but otherwise, things are going to remain dry and sunny. now, we have a tropical disturbance that we are watching. the tropical depression two has weakened a bit. the other one that we are really concerned about right now, is

the tropical wave that is coming off africa. a lot of convection with it. as well as a lot of thunderstorm activity. and it is forecast to strengthen. all the models have it strengthening as well. and if it does become a hurricane it will be hurricane anna. so watch that salmonella system as it strengthens and turns in the warm atlantic water. beach cast, forecast. if you are headed over to ocean city for the weekend. couple of clouds in the vicinity. partly cloudy skies. muggy and temperatures in the mid 80s. and if you are staying here. inner harbour, downtown. 85 degrees. under humid conditions. and winds will continue out of the southeast. look at the five-day forecast. looking very dry and very summer like. 88 by sunday. 89 degrees on monday. and close to that 90-degree mark on tuesday. dry and sunny weather. if you have yard work to do this is the weekend to do it. cold front will move through here on wednesday allowing for thunderstorms to develop in the afternoon hours with a temperature of 87. i will have a look at the seven-day forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> 2 faa employees placed on

line. noland rhyme hold comes in from third. pie goes to second with a double. and that was just the beginning of a big night for pie. bottom the third. pie has not had a home run since the 13th and changes it with that swing. way gone. third of the year. o's up. and pie was not done. bottom of the seventh. pie needs a single and a triple for the cycle. he hits it in the hole at short. and eye bar makes a nice throw but speedy pie beats it out for the infield hit. he is a triple shy of the cycle. and later in the seventh. o's up 14-5. pie up again. you know he is going for three if he hits it in the gap. and that's what he did. he drills it to right center. and pie puts on the after burners, he gets to third. easily. to become just the fourth oriole to hit for the cycle. and orioles pound the first place angel 16-6 to take game one of the four game set. >> ravens have starteded off on a good note. shutting out the washington redskins last night.

23-0 in the opener. joe flacco and the starting offense drove the ball well. but ended up leaving it to kicker hauschka to get the six points. back up qb smith able to connect pot team's first touchdown. ravens top defense, in top form. we saw several of the newest ravens get their time in the spotlight. overall, a good night in baltimore. and coach john harbaugh sees this as a good sign for the season. >> it was a good start. and obviously we have a lot of work to do. our guys realize that. that's what we do. go back to work saturday. we are physical. protected the football. defense played well. young offensive lineman did a nice job. lots of good things. >> despite the shutout win. ravens could not escape injury. marcus smith out for the season. with a torn acl. he was seen limping off the field after making a tackle on a punt return in the second quarter. it is a tough blow for the second year receiver who was just vying for one of the top
