virus. the drastic measures local schools are taking to prepare. >> another dry day tomorrow. but danny could bring big changes, tracking the storm in the atlantic. in the sky watch forecast. >> and hundreds of state workers will be losing their jobs. the millions being cut out of the state budget. >> live in high definition, from wbff tv in baltimore, this is fox 45 news "late edition". >> hello again, i am jeff barnd. >> and i am jennifer gilbert. baltimore city police arrest three men for gang rape. >> attacks happened two weeks apart. first occurred july 27 when two girls were walking near fayette and calvert and offered a ride by two men. when one of the girls apparently told the driver, he was going the wrong way on i-95, his passenger pulled out a knife and threatened to stab her. >> court records show they were at seton keogh high school.

and a second car pulled up. and raped the girls. while police were investigating that rape, another occurred on august 8. >> this is a successful operation. as a result of a courageous victim that cameford and able to provide very specific information, includes two investigators that helped to identify the perpetrators. >> well, the victim was able to provide part of a tag number that helped police track down the car that belonged to one of the suspects. that suspect confessed and provided the names of the other men. anthony edoror, jr, opeyemi adigun and adeamoloa adeniran. are all being held without bail. >> more details tonight about a stabbing in baltimore county. victim was rushed to shock trauma but police believe he will survive. attack occurred before 10:00 in catonsville near old frederick road and holly manner road. police are investigating exactly what happened, but they say that the suspect fled into the woods.

>> man shot and killed in northwest baltimore. at garrison boulevard and liberty heights after 2:00 this afternoon. victim in the 30s. taken to the hospital where he died. and police were called to the espn zone, downtown earlier this evening. where they found a man unresponsive in the second floor bathroom. he was taken to mercy medical center. and declared dead there. police are investigating what happened. . >> just a few days remaining before congress returns to d.c. to hammer out a final plan on health care reform. another member of the maryland delegation holds another townhall meeting. standing room only at the community center in germantown. congress woman edwards faced with a crowd that was overwhelmingly in support of president obama health care reform plan. but there were moments of push and pull over the $1 trillion proposal. >> what's the law and the government makes it so you guys can say, okay, we will do this. we will spend like trillions of dollars that we don't have.

how does that work? >> we are absolutely certain that we will be paying for this, so that we don't put those costs on future generations. >> meeting lasted about an hour and a half. not every question was asked. so edwards staff took written questions and promised to reply promptly. >> townhall in arizona today. senator mccain held a townhall meeting in sun city. called the plan unaffordable. and senator mccain also said the townhall meetings should always be civil. >> wait a minute. wait a minute. he is sincere in his beliefs. we just happen to disagree, and he is the president of the united states, and lets be respectful. >> a freshman democrat held a townhall in virginia tonight. congressman connolly addressed 500 seniors in springfield. he says americans are spending twice as much for personal health care as other industrialized nations. many in the crowd were concerned about how to pay for health care

it is not only in countries around the world. but it is very much still circulating in this country. >> health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius said she expects most people that want the swine flu vaccine will get it by thanksgiving. she is suggesting people get a seasonal vaccine as well. >> thousands of college students return to campus this weekend. with many schools starting up monday. swine flu emergency plans are already in place. loyola college, they emphasize prevention there. maryland institute college of art. empty building will be used as the quarantine area for sick students. >> we are taking a vacant building with lots of individual bedrooms. and creating some showers, bathroom space, working with dining service to say provide them healthy meals from soup to when they are feeling better and working with health care provider in the city on monitoring student's health. >> administrators hope to offer free shots once they become available. >> that brings us now to the

question of the day. we asked you if you thought the country was prepared for an h1n1 outbreak. so far, everyone who responded said no. and nat from reisterstown said there is only so much prevention you can do. as always, thank you for answering. >> well, another perfect august day. >> yeah but i understand it is all coming to an end very soon. vytas reid joins us with a first look at the sky watch forecast. >> we have rain in the forecast down the road. but we will get another sunny day tomorrow. and hotter out there as temperatures go up. looks like temperatures increasing as we go down the road. in fact, looking out there. mainly clear skies. radar shows clear conditions as we zoom out. scanning the sky. no activity going on right thru. but it looks like the closest rain to us is over michigan with strong storms making the way through central michigan around north of lansing and kalamazoo. and temperatures warming through the mid-morning tomorrow. right now sitting at 77 degrees in baltimore. 76 in d.c. and then as you see through the next day planner. lunch time tomorrow, plenty of sunshine.

. >> the state of maryland spent the day handing out pink slips to 205 state workers. governor announced the layoffs this morning. this comes as the state tries to close a $740 million budget gap. other state workers are order tod take three to 10 day furloughs. >> we have one simple intention, that is to get maryland through the other side of this recession. as quickly as possible. with as much of our priorities intact. so that we can see a better day. >> well more state cuts could mean big problems for baltimore city. state plans to reduce city aid by more than $35 million, adding more strain to the already strapped $2.3 billion city budget. the cuts could mean furloughs, cutbacks, and more job losses. >> the mayor's program is a cleaner, greener, safer, and healthier city, well, if the health department gets cut, that affects the healthier city, and the cleaner city. if we lose money and solid

waste, street cleaning, those things, you will see a dirtyer city. >> state board of public works is slated to approve the other round of cuts tomorrow. >> the city police union sues to cut contract link to say firefighters pay. decades old provision requires the city to give the firefighters same pay raises as police officers receive. union argues the clause interjects the interests of the fire department into police wage talks. hopes it clears the way for larger pay increases. >> that is why i am reappointing him to another term as chairman of the federal reserve. >> president obama makes it official. he wants ben bernanke to remain as chairman of the federal reserve. bernanke played a huge role in the auto bailout and $700 billion economic stimulus package. but chairman said his work is

not done. >> a student is under arrest after two explosions rock a california high school. it happened yesterday in san mateo. police called to the scene for reports of a student with a gun. when they got there, two pipe bombs had exploded near the library. and eight others were scattered around the school. along with a sword and a chain saw. >> this is the most egregious thing i have seen in my 16 years of being on the bench. >> test drive in kentucky, ends in a deadly crash. police say the driver hit speeds of more than 100 miles an hour. before crashing into another vehicle. killing a woman and her stepfather. the driver is charged two counts of manslaughter in the first degree. now there are questions about whether the salesman, encouraged the driver to drive that fast. >> very pleasant day out there today. but i understand it will change

soon. >> chief meteorologist vytas reid joins us to let us know when the heat and storms could return. vytas? >> looks like the heat back here tomorrow. and storms later in the week. but it looks like it is starting off with a relatively quiet night. outside right now. looking at 73 degrees. clear skies. our winds are out of the southwest at five. humidity levels at 73 percent. and pressure is steady as we continue to see high pressure nearby. keeping us nice and clear. all the stars are out for another day here. or another night. tomorrow as we have clearing. here is what's going on out in the atlantic. talk quick about the storm. which could become danny. but right now the name has not been given to it yet because it has not organized. hurricane hunter planes flying through different elevations of the storm. no real circulation yet, that the storm hunters have found. and that's what they need to actually identify it as a tropical depression or tropical storm. but not reaching that category yet. it is a cluster of thunderstorm activity. watch the storm to see if it

potentially becomes a tropical depression by tomorrow, or tropical storm. but right now. back at home. looking at the temperatures at 77. baltimore 75. harrisburg, 70. and pittsburg, will continue to see the high pressure bring in, wrapping in the warmer air from the west. so temperatures will increase. see plenty of sunshine tomorrow. and temperatures in the lower 90s as we get through the afternoon hours. so closer look around the state. not a lot of activity other than clear skies. and win to see that through the overnight. through tomorrow morning. so get the sunglasses ready for the morning commute. lots of sunshine in the early morning hours at six ap. clear skies through the afternoon. plenty of sunshine. into the evening looking at a relatively quiet night. then thursday, looks like we have a chance for maybe some pop up showers thursday night. now watch this closely. maybe after 7:00, we could get a pop-up shower or thunderstorm with the heating. if you are going out to the fair thursday. stray shower. 20 percent chance. 40 percent chance friday. and temperatures will be around 80 degrees. so looks like things cool down

as we get into the weekend. temperatures wise. five-day forecast shows the temperatures continuing to go down as we get into the weekend. and as we go down into friday. 80 degrees. 80 saturday. and then sunday 83. but you see the showers will kind of be around the area. so bring the umbrellas with you if you are heading out to the state fair. but definitely will see a hot day tomorrow. with the temperatures at 92. back to you guys. >> in tonight's news you need to know. new survey said the effects of secondhand smoking could double if you ride with somebody that lights up while driving. doctors at johns hopkins compared nicotine levels in the cars of 17 smokers and non-smokers, they found passengers riding in cars with smokers, are exposed to nicotine levels twice as high as restaurants and bars that allow smoking. recall is now expanded for maytag refrigerators. maytag recalling 50,000 appliances due to fire hazard. you may recall back in march,

as grand bo to her family cannot see well but it did not stop her from jumping out of a plane. she wanted to celebrate her 90th birthday in style. >> well, i have done everything else i could do. why not this. >> rambo's daughter, grandson and great granddaughter joined her on the sky diving adventure. >> great dane titan is hoped to be named the biggest of the big dog. vet took the measurements in san diego and measureed in at 42 and a quarter inches at the shoulder. 3 1/2 feet tall. titan's owner wants the enormous dog to get in the guinness book of world records. previous holder was another great dane that died from cancer a few weeks ago. >> in michigan. grounds keeper stumbled on a math moth tooth. believed to be 10,000 years old. researchers visited the site and

found another bone. they are keeping the location under wraps. but there will not be any teeing off there for awhile. megan gilliland, fox 45 news "late edition". >> for the ravens, two preseason games, two victories. latest came last night over ryan and the jets. it was a typical preseason game. two separate halves. the first involved the starters, and the ravens handled things pretty well. in the second half. the jets backups responded and had a chance to win it late. only to lose by a single point. and while they know they have plenty to work o ravens know they have a win, and preseason or not, that's what it is all about. >> it was very intense, it was like a regular season game. in a lot of ways. sloppier than a regular season game because there was no game planning going on. but hard fought. we found a way to win. good to see the young guys fighting to make the team finding a way to win the game in the end. >> we had nice drives.

did. kind of found some soft spots, you know, definitely ran the ball. so we have to make sure that we fix it this weekend. you know, get better at that. >> elsewhere, quite a career boost for a former maryland quarterback. shawn hill named the starter of the san francisco 49ers. beating out smith. one time number one overall draft pick. undrafted free agent in 2002 out of maryland. hill spent four years in minnesota before joining the 49ers in 2006. last year, hill saw the first real playing time of his career and responded with a five and three record. which helped to remove the interim tag from head coach mike singletary. >> hill was the starter at maryland and free jens first year when the terps won the acc championship. back to you. >> eight players
