streets. >> concerns about power outages. the surprising good news so far tonight. >> a loss. a plain loss. everything is destroyed. >> and a disastrous fire in dundalk. the amount of damage to a local fire station. >> live in high definition, from wbff tv in baltimore, this is fox 45 news "late edition". >> hello again, i am jeff barnd. >> and i am jennifer gilbert. storm is finally dying downtown tonight. and adding to the incredible amounts of snow that we had on the ground across the region. >> yeah, that and strong, strong winds created a dangerous situation today. all day today. chief meteorologist vytas reid joins us with a closer look at the winter blast. vytas? >> lots of snowfall coming downtown dealing with winds. and that will happen overnight. right now looking at baltimore city. arlington, snowfall for you. 28.9. gwynn oak 13.

pimlico 13. heeldersburg 24. line ofboro 23. queen ann's county, almost 11 inches. harford county, fallston, 19.5. edgewood, 15. belair 11.3. and we get to baltimore county. glyndon 22 inches. free land 21. parkton. parkville at 18.8. and bwi official number. from the airport. looking at 19.5. green haven at 17.5. southgate 16.2. crofton at 12.8. and howard county. which was the hardest hit from the last storm. jared gaither 20. savage 18. elkridge, 38.8. previous storm. 16.5. so a lot of snow but mother nature gave you a break. we are looking at the snow leaving. we will continue to see the snow breaking up. light snow showers and winds a factor out of the northwest.

blowing from 20 to 25. gusting to 40 at times. and still looks like remaining blizzard warning at this time is out in garrett county. western portions of allegany county. so it looks like we will see the storm push east. but in the wake leaving snowfall for us to dig out. i will show you what's coming up in the seven-day forecast. and when the next chance for snow is coming up in a bit. >> thank you, vytas. >> rodgers forge neighborhood had major trouble in the last snow storm. and only got worse today. jeff abell live in rodgers forge with a look at conditions there tonight. jeff? >>well, we are here at dunbarton middle school. and it is not difficult to understand why county schools are closed for the rest of the week. not only are the roads bad in the community. but you cannot even get to the school. this is the parking lot of dunbarton middle school. not only can you not get a vehicle up here but a person in this area. i want to show you the streets down here in rodgers forge. they are also impassable. this is dunbarton, about 4:00, a

plow came through. but since then that's the only activity we have seen. most of the roads have about knee deep of snow coated on them. and we have not seen a car or any vehicle successfully get down any of the streets n quite some time today. for most of the people here, it will be a long hard day tomorrow. of digging out. and it will be a difficult day for the next few days. live in rodgers forge, jeff abell, fox 45 news at "late edition". >> all right jeff thank you. >> a phase 3 snow emergency is now in effect in baltimore city. karen parks live in north baltimore to explain. karen? >>well, jeff that means that only authorized emergency vehicles are permitted on city recognizes. this is why. since the snow had stopped. salt trucks are able to pass through, and the streets are looking a little better. but conditions are still dicey. making it very difficult for bge crews and other emergency vehicles to travel. officials say that moving cars, as well as stranded vehicles are

also making salt distribution difficult. but warn, they will shut down roadways completely if disabled or moving vehicles continue to impede snow removal. but it is a disabling process. many city residents are just sick. >> we're baking. so we need something, it is boring. so nothing else to do. >> absolutely crazy. there is no one driving at all. >> we have just learned that beginning at 5:00, tomorrow morning, mayor stephanie rawlings-blake will reinstate phase 2 of the snow emergency plan. which means non-emergency vehicles will be allowed to travel on city roads. reporting live here in north baltimore. karen parks fox 45 news "late edition". >> well, of course, salt is crucial to getting the roads clear. addressing the state earlier today. governor o'malley said that major highways are still the main focus for crews. by 4:00, emergency crews and the

national guard had responded to more than 700 accidents. some roads have yet to see a plow. and the governor said even when they do. residents need to stay patient and cautious. >> so stop already with the pave my street -- or scrape my street down to the pavement. that cannot happen for the next 72 hours. and we ask that you be the great citizens, great marylanders and great americans that you are, and bear with us through the emergency. >> well, the governor thanks marylanders for heeding the warnings to stay off the roads. and said we need to continue to do so. some major highways may be closed at some point to allow fopling. >> you can watch all the governor's 4:00 update on the website. go to foxbaltimore.com/raw news. >> well fire breaks out at a baltimore county fire station. destroying five trucks, and a national guard humvee. it happened at dundalk station number six. along dunmanway and meritt

boulevard at 2:30 this morning. investigators think the fire started in the engine bay of the station. two ambulances, a brush truck, national guard humvee and 2 fire engines were destroyed. including a brand new fire engine that cost about $600,000. >> terrible loss for the community. without these fire department and the ambulances, i don't know what we are going to do. >> still trying to figure out what caused the fire. but for now the department operations have been moved to the southeast vocational technical school in dundalk. >> police officer is hit by a car after trying to stop two armed robbery suspects in towson. all of it started at 2:30 this morning. on york road. investigators say two suspects robbed a cv. and jumped in a car on delaney valley road. and during the pursuit suspects

opened fire and run down an officer. officer was alert when taken to the hospital. and both suspects arrested. >> several hospitals need your help tonight. saint agnes needs volunteers with four-wheel drive vehicles to transport hospital staff. if you are able to help. please call the number on the screen. (410)368-2080. >> and doctors say be very careful. while digging out. they have seen a huge increase already in injuries because of the snow shoveling in recent days. and here is good advice from the doctor. >> shoveling is not good for your heart. so if you have heart disease you should not be out shoveling snow. it is static lifting so not aerobic for your heart and can raise blood pressure instead of lowering it, terrible for the back. not good if anything sneap getting the snow off the driveway. >> if you have elderly neighbors or relatives if you cannot help them, find someone that can. >> well here is something you

might not think about. warning tonight about carbon monoxide poisoning during the winter weather. within the past week officials report four children, and 4 adults, in baltimore, ended up in the hospital after using a gas grill inside. now reminder that if your power goes out, do not do anything dangerous to cook or keep your home warm. >> getting around to pick up the trash and recycling is not in the cards. again tomorrow, baltimore city, baltimore county and arundel county, and howard county, have all suspended those services. yet again. for tomorrow. >> and there are a lot of closing, public schools in nearly every county closed tomorrow. a lot of places are making decisions about friday as well. for a complete list, just go to foxbaltimore.com/school closing. >> weather and road conditions

airline websites before even thinking of catching a flight. >> the city of philadelphia also getting hit by the winter blast. streets were pretty much desserted there. flights cancel at the airport today. very similar to what we have seen here. forecasters expecting up to 20 inches in philadelphia too. >> and snow blankets new york central park. blizzard warning in effect for new york city until thursday morning. wind gusts could reach 40 miles per hour. and national weather service said the storm could dump 10 to 16 inches of snow on the metropolitan area. >>well, finally, finally. few days relief after this storm. >> we sure need it. >> what do we hear bye possible snow storm for the weekend or monday. what's going on? check back with vytas. >> break it down for us. talk about what's going on out there. dealing with winds still tonight. skycam downtown. look at the camera shaking here because of the winds.

we have the gusty winds. we do not have a blizzard warning at this time. but contend with the winds through the overnight. the snow, look at this. clouds without the snow blowing. has stopped over the city. 28 degrees. winds out of the west-northwest at 21. so still seeing that as a factor. now 1995, 1996, we saw 62.5 inches of snowfall in that season. now, looking at the 2009, and 2010 season, looking at 83.9 inches. 83.9. we're still not done with the season. we have 38 more days left. until march 20. 21st. when we actually officially come to the vern nal equinox. spring. so 38 days left. count them. as far as the snow. continues to see it taper off and drift off to the east. and actually get breaks in the clouds. get sunshine tomorrow. and looking at northwest winds. 21 in baltimore. 22 in d.c. 17 hagerstown. 20 salisbury. still with 35 to 40 miles per hour gusts overnight tonight.

and temperatures on the cold. 29 baltimore. 29 dc. 29 hagerstown. with the windshield factors in the teens. frigid out there. so the storm tracks off to the east. making way for breaks in the clouds getting into thursday, friday, saturday, and then even sunday. so that's good news, that we will see breaks from the precipitation for the next few days. give us a moment to dig out. looking at the next watches and warnings lining up. thank goodness this is not a few hundred miles north. another storm that we're watching that folks were concerned about. but the next storm tracks south. and it will miss us. affects folks in the deep south. getting snow. rain, thunderstorm activity. and our next chance for next snow is monday, tuesday. clipper system dropping down out of alberta. and usually we don't see a ton of moisture with this. but a chance to get snow around the dc, baltimore area. stretching up to boston and maine. and watch it closely.
