starvation trial. how long cult members could be behind bars. >> another recall. this time gm. the problem with thousands of cars. >> these prices going up. what is getting the blame this time. >> live in high definition, from wbff tv in baltimore, this is fox 45 news "late edition". >> hello again, i am jeff barnd. >> and i am jennifer gilbert. >> familiar sight. cloud cover again over the state of maryland. >> it has been raining in baltimore. but are we in for something more? chief meteorologist vytas reid is here with what we can expect from the winter blast. vytas? >> good news jeff and jennifer, this is a mild storm for intensity. giving us precipitation through the night tonight in the form of rain and maybe snow. radar shows mixing southern tip of the state. and on the eastern shore, a little bit. going out further, over richmond, snow.

and toward parts of north carolina. but bigger picture here shows the lowdown south traveling out over the atlantic. it will wrap in a bit of the moisture. into the colder temperatures. as the temperatures fall tonight. and give us mixed bag of precipitation overnight. what are we talking about. my forecast is about a trace, or maybe a little less than an inch across 95 corridor. mixing with that rain. so the totals are low. mainly grassy surfaces and roadways should stay with wet conditions, eastern shore, maybe 1-to 2-inches over there around chestertown, easton and denton so wrapping out of here. and things get better toward the weekend. with the increase in our temperatures. currently 37 in baltimore. 36 in d.c. as the temperatures fall. it will changeover a bit. as the mix will continue through the night into tomorrow morning rush hour. freezing spots on overpasses and roadways, but the storm heads out of here by the afternoon. and temperatures will start to increase toward the weekend. your weekend outlook i think you will like coming up in the seven

day. >> vytas, be the first to know if this situation changes overnight. get the latest traffic delays, school cancellations and weather forecast on the screen, during commercials. on the fox 45 news ticker. fox 45 morning news starts at 5 a.m. >> earlier this evening, jurors found all three defendants in a suspected cult case guilty for the role they played in the murder of one-year-old javin thompson took jurors less than 2 1/2 hours to reach the verdict. and in the end they found queen antoinette, princess trevia williams, marcus cobbs guilty of child abuse that resulted in death and second degree murder. >> these people are surely guilty of everything that the jury convicted them up. and delighted that the jury came back with the just verdict in this case. >> right now i wish i could hold and hug javon. you know, this is in his name. this is all about javon. not about me or my daughter.

but javon. >> each defendant that chose to represent themselves now faces a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison. they will be sentence order may 18. >> two women remain locked up tonight accused of attempting to murder flag football player. police arrested 26-year-old jennifer sanford and 32-year-old kimberly fleming. investigators say they attacked the player as he was leaving a pub crawl in federal hill saturday night. michael kooser said the stab wounds were so deep he almost bled to death. >> they cut my shirt, it was spraying everywhere. i could see it. leaving dismiss pub crawl was a fund raiser for his flag football team. police are still searching for a male suspect. >> the shooting of a gas station owner is now a murder investigation. 49-year-old william porter died this morning at shock trauma. he was shot in a robbery attempt at a store in the 1600 block of

joppa road monday morning. gunman still on the loose. >> there is a $22,000 reward offered for information that solves the murder of a security guard. 38-year-old james ball killed february 20 while trying to breakup an argument by the bank of america building downtown. if you have any information about this case, please call metro crime stoppers at 866-7-lockup. >> baltimore city's homicide rate is down from this time last year. as of tonight, 24 murders fired 37 last year at this time. police credit their hard work for the decrease. and say the snow was not a factor whatsoever. >> montgomery county police have arrested three men accused of human trafficking for prostitution. police say these men, black mailed some victims, some of them minors to take part in sex for money organizations. in the last three weeks police have shut down three operations, all doing business at hotels in our area.

investigators say the men used craigslist, to advertise for clients. they say one used facebook to lure one of his victims. >> the internet now allows people to never leave their room and engage in this illegal activity. >> investigators say in one case, a 15-year-old girl was lured to maryland from new york. with dreams of becoming a model. >> state lawmakers are currently looking to a measure that targets traffic courts no shows. people citeded h have to why a trial instead of a court date. it is a supported measure and will cut overtime since police have to appear in court. state lawmakers are considering measures requiring every city, county and town in the state of maryland to assess a storm watery mediation fee on all property owners. environmentalists say the fees will help to fix pollution problems due to run off.

they want state to make fees mandatory. but let local officials decide the amount. >> prosecutors and law enforcement officials want tougher laws to crackdown on gangs and gang activity. they went to annapolis to make the voices heard today. among the measures under consideration, tougher penalties for those convicted of crimes with gangs. and jessamyed the initiative is aimed at older teenagers, that influence younger kids. >> if you are going to take the time to go after somebody seeking and enhanced penalty it won't be a kid that wrote graffiti on a wall. trust me t won't happen. >> however, public defenders and the a.c.l.u. both say many young people convicted of minor crimes will be unfairly connected to gangs. >> some baltimore county residents are appealing a decision that will allow exxon to stop monitoring the wells. back in 2006, a pipe burst caused 26,000 gallons of

gasoline to leak into the water supply. since then, exxon has been required to monitor the water in that community. and provide bottled drinking water to 248 residents. back in january, exxon mobile asked for permission to stop monitoring about half of the homes. the maryland department of the environment agreed. >> two environmental groups suing perdue farms on the eastern shore. lawsuit filed today in u.s. district court. the group said purdue failed to correct violations it was notified about 60 days ago. perdue farms is not commenting. >> a towson university adjunct professor fired last week after using a racially insense active term in his art class. he taught at towson for 12 years. and he said he was discussing provocative works depicted in textbook chapters when he used the term. and right away he knew he made the mistake. including to his interview. he apologized to the class and 3

days later he was fired. >> gm recalls more than 1 million cars because of steering problems. recall applies to the 2005 to 2010 cobalt and 2007 to 2010 g 5. along two several other models sold in canada and mexico. the cars may be hard to steer under 15 miles per hour. >> the harsh texas winter causes beef prices to raise. creating a leaner stock because of the energy used to keep the cattle warm. as a result consumers will expect to pay 6 cents more per pound than last fall. >> maryland zoo announced plans to reopen following the blizzard. the zoo back open for business march 13. however, some exhibits remain closed due to damage caused by snow storms. officials say they expect the damage to $.1.5 million.

>> people are sending less snail mail and dried up postal service revenue. and cutting down to five day delivery week is one cost cutting way to cut money. craig boswell reports tonight on how it affects all of us. >> the familiar sight of the letter carrier delivering mail saturday could be the past. u.s. postal service plans to ask congress to cut mail deliver fresix to five days a week. >> we project the postal service could lose $7 billion. these declines in volume and revenue have caused us to rethink everything. everything that we are doing. >> post master general said ending saturday delivery will saves billons, way to save. >> we have to adjust to new realities, i think they are doing the best they can under terrible circumstances. >> i need it every day. old school. i like the way they used to do it. in the 60s.

>> president obama said he is ready to consider some of the g.o.p.'s ideas in order to pass health reform. including undercover investigations to combat insurance fraud and waste. and an extra $50 billion in grants for states to find ways to resolve medical malpractice suits. increasing medicaid reimbursements for doctors. and including language to provide for health savings accounts. >> u.s. supreme court could soon determine gun laws on state and local levels. high court heard arguments today over a handgun ban in the city of chicago. 2008 decision voided a ban in washington d.c. but of course the district satisfy federal territory not state territory. supporters hope the court will extend owning guns to the state and local levels. >> we have seen rain. saw the chance of snow creeping into the forecast. >> hopefully just traces though. check back with vytas reid for

all the details. vytas? >> that's a picture right now. looks like things will be on the light note across the area. as we see it push through. main over the atlantic. eastern shore. they may get more accumulating snow potentially. but not a lot. good news. right now on hd skycam. baltimore sees rain showers. few flakes mixed in. temperatures at 36. winds out of the north-northeast at 10. and humidity levels at 92 percent. so we will continue to see that moisture riding up out of the south. almanac page shows the temperatures today at 42. normally we are at 49. so temperatures slightly cooler and probably because of the cloud cover we have out there and the rain showers that began in the mid afternoon. state temperatures continue to go down a bit tonight. as they fall a couple more degrees we may see snow mixing in late overnight to the rush hour. so be prepared for that. so most of the snow is on grassy surfaces and on the car. if you are parked outside. and should be light in nature. winds out of the northeast at

10. and baltimore. 13 in d.c. northeast wind in dover. and salisbury. here is a look at the radar. in the form of in green here. form of precipitation in green. mixing with snow to the south of us. as the moisture continues to move north, and temperatures fall. we could see a little bit of the snow changing more into snow through the overnight hours. and it won't be a lot. which is good. like i said, the storm will continue to move out over the atlantic. most of the energy is to the northeast of us. we may get a wrap around you see by morning rush hour. still a chance for snow. the better chance on the eastern shore. but we're on the edge of that. so we could see a little of that accumulating on the grassy surfaces. and storms push northeast. and then the best part of this whole scenario. is as we go down the road. high pressure is building in. and toward the weekend. and this high pressure will bring in clear conditions. and dragging in mild air from the southwest. so it will allow for us to stay dry through the entire weekend. we have a large area of high pressure over parts of the

plains and midwest and south. which will continue to join us as we get toward the weekend. so possible totals with this system. anywhere from a phrase trace or less. less than an inch. down dc and bay. 1-to 2-inches possible. so tonight a few flakes mixed in win drops down to 36. tomorrow, cloudy skies. with temperatures topping out at 41. starting out with a few flakes changing to rain. and winds 10-to-15. five-day forecast. cloudy thursday. friday 45 with sunshine. and nice conditions for saturday and sunday. temperatures in the mid 50s. and looks like a fabulous weekend starting upcoming up. >> more powerful aftershocks rock the country of chile following the massive earthquake saturday. this is amateur video of one of the aftershocks from today. you can see the ripples in the water created by the rumble under the earth surface. and looting is a big problem as people struggle to find

* bleep* . >> you actually have a cracked tank with your groin. >> lucky for him he did not break or pop anything. his next accomplishment may be singing for the vienna boy's choir. >>well, teen alcohol and marijuana use on the rise. new survey from the partnership of a drug free america found 39 percent of high schoolers drink alcohol up 11 percent from last year. when it comes to pot, 25 percent of teens use it, up 19 percent. and the centers for disease control and prevention said asthma rates are on the rise. numbers are up in every date state except nevada. close to 8 percent of all americans have asthma. more than a 2 percent increase in five years. some doctors say the increase may have to do with allergies and pollutants and our health as a whole. >> in a bit of rain and sleet
