april 22nd. i'm patrice harris. you're taking a live look at 695 there right at harford road and it's pretty much the same throughout the region and that is fog. it was very difficult driving in this morning so you just want to use caution as you're heading out the door be aware of that because it's going to take you a little extra time once the traffic get moving this morning. good morning, i'm patrice harris. let's check in with meteorologist steve fertig and see what we're expecting today. i'm guessing some the rain had something to do with the fog. we had a 3rd of an i have of rain which is what we thought we would get and the fog with an 8th of visibility and at whitemarsh there was 100 yards visibility at some point. really want to take it easy. you can see the rain has moved out of here but it has left us with the moisture and the result is fog throughout most of the area. we have a dense fog advisory

through 9:00 a.m. through washington county, and the chesapeake bay as you go south. we will see sunshine later, but temperatures are starting off mild because of the low level clouds, 51 degrees in baltimore, d.c. is the same and 48 at hagerstown. the bigger picture you see drier air that will be working in. that will bring us a prettier afternoon. now there could be a slight chance for a shower in spots this afternoon. it would be isolated in nature because of the fran toll frontay pushing through. the winds out of north west at 15 miles per hour. we will check o weekend forecast but first here is candace dold with the traffic edge. >> reporter: that's the big story out there. here is a live look of 95 at whitemarsh boulevard. we already have the two cars that are starting to filter in.

the one thing we did notice is a lot of people are starting to slow down. just d use extra caution as you head out this morning as we have been saying. the outer loop lanes up to 83, so far they're looking a normal ride, take it extra slow, 11 minutes at 55 miles per hour. and the same speed at 83 up toward 795, as for the west side push from 795 down toward 95, so far so good, 11 minutes at 54 miles per hour there. that's a look at your morning travels, patrice, back over to you. 5:03 on fox 45 early edition. a baltimore postal workers is accused of stealing hundreds of gift cards from the mail. he sorted through 1200 greeting cards at work. megan gilliland is live with the latest on how they caught the thief in action. good morning, megan. >> reporter: good morning, patrice, we're live at the fayette street post office where

51 years old andrew waltz used to be the overnight shift supervisor that is until he was caught on hidden camera opening up the greeting cards and stealing the gifts that were inside. one of the victims this grandmother here at harford county. chris mailed a gift card to her grandson in virginia with a $50 gift card tucked inside. later he received an empty envelope marked return to the sender and was told that she had been a victim of theft. >> i will never send another gift card or a check in it, never. it's sad. >> reporter: now investigators were able to track down some the missing gift cards taken from the greeting cards and they discovered that the phone number used upon purchase was walsh's, the postal employee here. police arrested walsh on tuesday night at his home in cockeysville. while they were there, they

recovered more than 400 gift cards inside of his car there. he is charged with theft of mail. if he is convicted, he could go to jail for more than five years. no word if he would have to pay restitution. live at the post was at fayette street, megan gilliland. fox 45 early edition. students are the target of armed robbers for the second time in two months. the latest incident happened after midnight tuesday at the fraternity house at the 200 block of east berg avenue. one of students of doing homework when six guys wearing red va bandannas stormed into te house and robbed him. >> he had a revolver and he stayed in the kitchen. >> the robbers got away with computers and a video dame system. police are trying to determine if the incident is connected to one last month when two towson

students were assault and robbed in their dorm room. police arrest a man in milwaukee for assaulting a woman in her home. he went to a home at norton way and asked to use the bathroom. when the woman let him in, police say he sexually assaulted her. he is being held on $2 million bail. a barricade situation in prince george's county ends without anyone being harmed. it all started around 9:00 yesterday morning when u.s. marshalls tried to serve brian barns with a warrant for attempted murder. the 22-year-old attempted to flee the scene in a car but ended up hitting a police cruiser. he then broke into a house where he was there for several hours. he was taken into custody after police shot tear gas into the house. first on fox a west baltimore student says she considered harming herself after

being bullied at school. senia is a 3rd grader at gilmour el men school in west baltimore. she has cerebral palsy and says some classmates kicked her crutches and punched her. on tuesday those attacks led senia to a window ledge. >> of course i felt mad because he would tease me so i felt mad so i was going to jump out of the window. >> school administrators would not comment on the case but they will say that there are an tie bullying policies in place. and there are consequences for those who violate the policies in place, and a police report has been filed. city police identified the man fatally shot in west baltimore on tuesday night. investigators say 33 years old kevin hislot was shot in the 700 block of north fulton avenue.

he later died at the hospital. another victim stabbed at the scene survived. 33-year-old calvin williams has been arrested in the incident. a mother who starved her son because he wouldn't say amen after meals is sentenced. she sment the last two years in jail but yesterday a judge gave her 5 years probation. she will enter a residential treatment facility where she will go a process of did he deprogramming. she was a member of a religious cult and even her prosecutors were convinced that she did not maliciously intend to kill her 1-year-old javon. >> she was really mislead by them but it was obvious to us in meeting with her and speak to her that she was very sincere that she was telling us the truth. >> the three cult members convicted of second-degree murder in javon's death will be

sentenced next month inside university officials want to know why a video of a beating by a cop went missing. officials say 90 minutes of the video turned over were missing including the time of the beating. 87 minutes of it have been recovered but three minutes are stistill missing. the board of election want state prosecutors to look into questionable spending by state senator ulysses curry. they want to see the campaign spending if running for office. purchases for an eye exam, online games, and car repairs. by law the funds can only be used for election. there's no comment by currie. it's election day and peopls earth day and people are showing

it on the sky hd radar, the rain from yesterday has moved out of here but it's the moisture from that rain that is off to the east but has left behind enough moisture in the lower areas that in the valley especially we're doing to see a chance for a lot of fog, more than a chance there's plenty of fog out there. there's a frontal boundary to the west of us that could produce a chance of a shower and just an isolated chance, and the rest of us not having to deal with the rest it. as far as the dense advisory that will continue until 9:00 a.m. all the way down the western side of the chesapeake bay and across the washington county. don't be surprised there's fog eastbound. and the area the most concentrated fog and the dense of it. the fogs keeping it rather mild, 52 degrees in d.c. 48 in hagerstown and as we check out what we could see this afternoon, when i tell you about a stray shower, maybe .10 of an

i have of rain if there happens to be a stray showere shower inr area. the frontal boundary will push through. it will keep us dry for later this day and into your friday as high pressure builds in for friday. it brings us a real pretty day for sunshine and temperatures that will be above average for this time of year, upper 60s then. the next frontal boundary is going to be the warm front that is the one that is going to bring us a chance of showers and a better chance as we get into the warm sector of airs and showers and thunderstorms. now it's going to take sometime for it to get out of here. as a result with the blocking pattern you up in the northeast and this hanging out here with the shower chances with not just late saturday into sunday but also monday, tuesday, and maybe even wednesday as well next week. 70 degrees for next week high temperature, partly cloudy and keep in mind there's a 20% chance you might see it pass

through. the central part of the state, just an isolated chance for a shower, 71 degrees and partly cloudy with a northwest wind at 5-15. look for a high temperature here of 69 degrees, a tad cooler with part cloudy skies an isolated chance of a shower, northwest wind at 10-15 miles an hour. tonight, behind the frontal boundary, clear skies, 46 degrees overnight low and not bad, fairly seasonal then. the temperatures climbing to 67 degrees after that cloudy or foggy start, mix of sun and clouds later and 57 for the noon hour. 69 at 6:00 p.m. after getting to the high temperature of 71 at 3:00 in the afternoon. a couple of degrees cooler but a lot of sunshine so it look and feel pretty good. 65 degrees with late showers on saturday. in come the showers on sunday. high of 65 and 62, and 63, and 64 on monday, tuesday and wednesday all with a chance of a

love. >>the family of a baltimore fire cadet who died during a training exercise three years ago filed a 35 million lawsuit against the city. john rydel reports, the suit claims gross negligence. >> reporter: it was the ultimate test to determine the strength and agility of a future firefighters. a burn exercise inside of this rowhouse left cadet left.

a loss still acknowledged by the baltimore's mayor. >> i'm grateful for her service, sorry for the loss for her life and that impact on her family. >> reporter: investigators blame the accident on a total breakdown in safety protocol. now the family of cadet wilson has filed a $35 million wrongful death suit. it alleges gross negligence by three fire department supervisors who coordinated the live burn. the national fire protection association requires that only one fire be set in a live burn exercise, but this lawsuit alleges that 7 fires were set on all three floors of the house, just one of several conditions that contributed to the death of cadet rachael wilson. but city officials dispute the allegations and claim that fire cadet supervisors were totally negligence. >> it was a terrible dent. accident, mistakes were made, no doubt

about that, but that doesn't mean that an employer is liable to an employee under those circumstances. >> reporter: but baltimore attorney julie rubin who is not associated to this case, says some liability is obvious. >> a woman lost her life, and children were left without a mother. >> reporter: and since then the city and lawyers have failed to reach an agreement on the monetary damages, this case could eventually go to trial. of the three supervisors named in the suit, one was fired, another retired and the 3rd man was reinstated. coming up later on the early edition, travelers who were stranding in europe are finally coming home. what people are saying about being stuck because of an ash cloud. but next, avatar is being

just north of route 100 and fog is what you're going to encounter when you head out the door. there was so much of it coming into work this morning, be aware and be careful as you head out. let's check in with meteorologist steve fertig and you were talking about how hard it was coming in from whitemarsh. i had the same thing coming in and i travel from wind deandy ad wooded roads. and it was eerie actually. >> anybody and even the eastern shore is going to have a place with fog. reduced visibility, 100 yards in some spots. >> it was pretty bad. what i was saying in the newsroom, it wasn't even patchy in one area, it was consistent all the way through. at 695 it lightened up some. >> it doesn't take a lot of rain. we had a 3rd of an i have of rain, and the calm winds and the moisture in place, the fog
