let's check in with candace dold to see what is happening on the roadways. she has the traffic edge, of course, that is always an issue. >> reporter: thank you, steve. we do want to show you what it look like. you can see the cars this morning, and here it is on 695 moving across the key bridge in excellent shape there. we're loving this ride in both directions and that nice and calm pace, continues on the beltway. right now the outer loop lanes from 95 up toward 83, just looking at an 11 minute clip, 54 miles per hour. note the volume is increasing from 83 up toward 795, but so far no complaints, 8 minutes, 54 miles per hour there. at 55 miles per hour with an 11-minute drive 795 all the way down toward 95. that's a look at your morning travels, patrice, over to you. 5:32 now on fox 45 early edition. a suspect is recovering this morning after being shot by a police officer in anne arundel county. it happened last night in glen burnie and it was a dramatic

scene from start to finish. megan gilliland joins us live with the latest. good morning, megan. >> reporter: good morning, patrice, we're live at the intersection of alviton road and starwood drive. and this is the area that the officer was patrolling, the residential area last night when he noticed a man jumping up and down on top of a van. now when the suspect saw the officer, he then jumped off and a female inside that fan got out. that is -- van got out, that is when the suspect began assaulting her. the officer asked him to stop, when he didn't, he deployed his taser gun. officers say that did not stop the suspect. he picked up an object off the side of the road and waived it over his head that is when the officer fired his first gunshot. the suspect kept coming, the officer fired again, the officer kept coming, and finally a 3rd shot was fired. >> the suspect sustained what was appeared to be nonlife-threatening injuries and

was taken to shock trauma. the victim is being detained for questioning. >> reporter: the officer a 3 year veteran on the force was not hurt during that incident. police will continue to investigate. this morning no charges have been filed at this point. live in glen burnie, i'm megan gilliland. fox 45 morning early edition. the animal control board decides not to take any action after a baltimore county woman is bitten by a neighbor's dog. stephanie says that the attack took place in february. she was reportedly shoveling road in the 1600 block of miami road in towson when the neighbor approached with his dog. the animal was on a leach and she didn't feel threatened so she approached the dog. that is when he bit her face. >> i did nothing provoking, it was a gingerly approach. just your typical, hi, puppy kind of thing and the dog just snapped. >> an animal control officer laibd the dolabeled the dog a ds

animal after the initial investigation meaning it could have been put to sleep. the owner appealed and the decision was reversed. a parent is arrested for sexually abusing a minor. he is facing charges including child abuse and assault. investigators say bartly who is also a pastor sodomized the young boy at least 6 times between december of 2009 and april of this year. the incidents all reportedly took place at his home in chester town. police are asking anyone with information about the case or any other incidents to give them a call at (410)778-0490. many store owners in baltimore city are expressing their concern over a proposed beverage tax. withstanding room only at yesterday's public hearing on the measure. it would impose a 4-cent fee on many of the beverages.

welcome back. 5:42 on this friday morning. check out the sky hd radar and scanning the area with dry skies. we had showers push through last night, they were light hardly measurable but the frontal boundary and just enough moisture producing showers. some light activity in the eastern shore but not much out there. to put things into motion you can see the showers that moved through and continuing to make their way from north to east. there are showers back to the west, that along the frontal boundary will be coming our way

for tomorrow and bringing more activity with it, especially once we get into sunday, i think when we could have thunderstorms as well. here is what we have in terms of the conditions the jet stream even with the northwesterly flow coming our way, we should get to 70 degrees once been again. we will talk about what is headed our way the weekend which is going to take a turn down dod and the shower chances. we will get moisture, high pressure coming from the gulf as well as the warm front approaches. that warm front gets closer by tomorrow night and it could bring showers by as early as tomorrow afternoon and even. evening.we will see the whole af maryland with the chance of some showers for at least the very early morning hours sunday and a dry slot works in here. you will see the break behind us and then we get the chance for a little more heating and possibly

thunderstorms for sunday in the afternoon or evening that could be potentially strong to severe. we will have to watch that. as far as how much rain, noting to be heavy-duty rain this weekend just showers that will be kind of stubborn about getting out of here. we will see a quarter of an inch to half an aven of rain coming your way. a little more in salisbury where we pick up a quarter of an inch. it's not going to be drenching rain. it's not going to be moving through too quickly. down in salisbury 54 degrees there and 52 up in hagerstown. we start mild and the temperatures climb nicely to 57 degrees, comfortable for the eastern shore especially when you factor in mostly sunny skies. it should be a nice day. do take advantage of today because as i said we have a few days of the inclement weather before we start to see improvement later this week. 70 degrees for high today with mostly sun me skies, a nice one for the central part of the state. back to the west, 59 degrees, not bad either with a lot of sunshine and a northwest at

on iradar. candace dold has the traffic edge. >> reporter: thank you, steve. so far so good on many of the main lines. we're checking on the actual speeds for you and you will see why. we're at 62 miles per hour on the jfx and 64 on the beltway traveling through the pikesville region. as for other main lines, let's show you exactly what the scene is on 295 this morning. here it is route 32, you can see we're already collecting a few cars there, but the coast is clear on the southbound lanes and the northbound stretch all the way up toward the beltway. 95 is checking in a-okay, picture perfect there moving through howard county through 32, all the way up to 695 as well. once you hop on the beltway,let check in on frederick road this morning, and again pretty much the same deal an enjoyable ride, outer and inner loop lanes. as far as the farther up, let's check in at liberty road and well, the coast is looking good there as well. conditions, outer loop lanes and through the triple

slack and super sized it. the ankh adult only needs 2300 calories a day to survive but most people including kids are eat not excess of 3800 calories. sometimes the problem is access to healthier foods. greasy take outs out number grocery stores and school lunches aren't helping, either. a new study by a group of retired millitary officers says high calorie school lunches are making the students so fat, that they can't meet the millitary standards. that is putting recruitment and national security in jeopardy. reversing the trend will take the help of the community. >> over the years fewer and fewer schools are providing daily physical education. in many fact, many schools aren't providing physical education at all. >> that is why more and more organization have stepped in to fill the void. the y of central maryland is 1. they offer an after school program called fit and fun.

good morning, everybody. here is your first look at sports. after a long night of waiting we still have to wait some more. in the nfl draft, the ravens traded their number 1 pick the 25th overall to the denver broncos. they used that quarterback to select tim tivo. the 6th pick in the 3rd round and a 4th round pick. there will be no first round pick for the first time sinc since 2004 but what they got in return made the move an easier one to pull the trigger on. >> as we start looking at the board and understanding where our football team is right now and having the opportunity to get the extra picks, because if you look at it now, each pick that we gave to arizona we have

quarterback, oklahoma. and there's the first overall pick. sam bradford, the heisman trophy winner. he missed all last year with a shoulder injury but impressed the scouts enough to be a number one. he will get a contract in the neighborhood of $50 million. bradford goes number 1 to the rams. and they took the tackle and the second pick. bradford's oklahoma team went number three to the foxes and the chiefs get safety eric barry out of tennessee at number 5. with the 6th pick seattle a new head coach selected tackle russell. and the browns took quarter lack joe and linebacker mcclain out of alabama goes 8th to the raiders. and the bills get running back cj steeler and. to you sown aloalo at number 10. with the draft underway earlier

on thursday, the ravens were taking care of some predraft business and one of the piece of the business of the draft agreed to a pay cut which some see cementing spot on the roster. price doesn't figure to be a starter this year and his hefty price tag would have been too much to pay for a back up. he would probably have been cut. join kristen
