i'm patrice harris. more rain in the forecast. raining overnight and on my way into work this morning. will it continue? meteorologist steve fertig is here with a look at today's forecast. >> good morning to you. last night got pretty active in some spots. last night we had a tornado warning in st. mary's county, nothing materialize other than hail, and stormy weather. it will taper off to the east as we get the showers early on. generally improving weather. >> our way to a better day. yeah. the showers moving off to the east. should be moving out of here later. the eastern shore may linger a little bit longer, generally looking at improving weather. 66 degrees in baltimore. it will be a cooler day today, even though we start milder at 66, and 55 i 52 at hagers town. cool and breezy, then the temperatures only getting to 62 for the high and tonight partly

new information on a story you saw first on fox. there are now more reports of bullying at a west baltimore elementary school and it's forcing the city's teacher's union to take action. the president of the union is expected to the visit gilmour el elementary school today. megan gilliland joins us with more. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. parents there are very worried, there's been attacks on teachers and parents inside of that school. violence prompting the teacher's union to investigate. last week we reported on shania's story and since then parents have come barred with -d with similar stories. since then students have been suspended for bullying and others for other tacks. and the real number of incidents is probably a a lot higher.

>> i do believe that the principals still want to keep this school zone as safe and the least expensive the school is the better the school is. they do try to keep the numbers down. >> reporter: we asked the principal to do an interview on camera regarding the bullying, but they denied the requests. some tell us that the administrators want the trouble swept under the carpet. the teacher's union is stepping in to investigate this matter. the president is expected to be at the school later this morning. megan gilliland, fox 45 early edition. baltimore county police have identified the young mother killed after being struck by a truck. her family is calling her a hero for getting her 2-year-old son out of harm's way. 17-year-old mavi mall done add owe was crossing the street at the entrance of the shopping center. she was pushing her son in a

stroller. as they stepped into the sidewalk, a pickup truck hit her. >> the crash investigators don't know why this pickup truck hit this woman. they are checking many things even as far as the vehicle safety itself to see if there was any issues of the vehicle itself. >> the driver did stop to help the mother and child. an investigation is underway. charges could be pending. police are looking for more suspects in a home invasion robbery at towson university. police have already made two arrests after several men broke into a fraternity house on east briewrk schooburke street last e computers and mp3s. one man was doing homework when six men wearing bandanas stormed into the house. police are looking for troy

taylor in connection to the case and they're going after four unidentified suspects. a new poll shows the race for governor may be a close one. rasmussen reports shows governor martin o'malley three points ahead of former governor ehrlich with a 3 point margin of error, that makes it a dead heat. political analyst say this is shaping up a historic battle that could be one the closest and dirt yesterday of al dirtie. joel d smith is live where current governor is launching his campaign. >> reporter: this is the spot where current governor martin o'malley is going to relaunch his campaign. it starts with a special tour called moving maryland forward visiting three major cities, columbia, and glen burnie to name a few. this comes on the heels of the

poll that shows that things have very close, maybe a virtual dead heat as the rasmussen. this comes as recently poll, that was done in february, that one had a 6 point spread. right now it's half of that and within the margin of error of a dead heat. back then the marginner o margir was 6 points. it was because ehrlich was officially entered the race before it was suspected that he would. this race will remain close all the way through november whether the candidates like it or not. >> i'm hoping very much that this doesn't turn into a personal bashing campaign, you know, i did better than you as governor. >> people don't want that and if governor o'malley and governor ehrlich shook hands and said we are not going to do anything, it still will be dirty because outside forces will bring television and radio into the state and make it dirty. >> reporter: the delegates are talking about a potential for a dirty campaign making it

very personal. those delegates return will died the winner most likely, supporters for each candidate, think about it, they have seen their guy win before. o'malley defeated ehrlich. even though this campaign officially relaunches today and trying to win the 2010 gubernatorial election, there's still a primary to talk about. both of these guys have to win that first, that is coming up on september 14. live as fells point, joel d smith fox 45 early edition. baltimore's union continues to fight plans on closing city fire houses on a temporary or prermpermanent basis. early dunne sunday morning firefighters rescued four residents from this building but it took twice as long for equipment to arrive. they blame the rotating closures of four fire companies.

mayor stephanie rawlings-blake does not want to close the fire houses but that depends on them approving the taxes and fees. >> we keep community libraries open and we reduce the number of closures, the rotating closures that we have currently. >> we cannot continue to protect the people of this city with the amount of companies that they're closing every day. >> a final decision on more cuts to the fire department may not be announced until noon when the city council takes a final vote on the budget. stay tuned to fox 45 morning news for continuing coverage of this story. fire union president will join us instudio to talk about the closures and how the firefighters plan to fight them. that is coming up in the 6:00 hour. coming up soon, they plan to bring more federal funding dollars. the state is changing the way it counts prisoners in the 2010

census. under the state law, they will be counted in the jurisdiction of their last permanent address. previously inmates were counted in a separate category. a larger population means more federal funding for jurisdiction. it's hope that they will respect the dignity of individuals and they will become a productive part of society. >> it's by the machine of maryland to give prince george's county who has the 75% of the inmates originally from their jurisdiction to give them more population, so they can play politics and give them more legislators and go to annapolis and play more their way. a ban in alcohol in state western parks in western maryland is putting a damper on outdoor funds. allegheny county tourism director says that the ban is causing people to go elsewhere. they want to suspended the ban

which was implemented in november with little notice. the dnr backs the ban because most of the problems are caused by excessive drinking. a new tobacco problem is stirring controversy. these tobacco candy are meant from nicotine. they're meant to deliver a nicotine fix for adults without smoking. but they -- children are poisoned by nicotine. and nearly 2,000 children were poisoned by nicotine between 2006 and 2008. you will soon be able to cut the sodium in your diet without changing your diet. >> reporter: 16 food companies are cutting the amount of salt in their products. the national salt reduction initiative was announced on monday by michael mayor greenberg.

seeing light showers, lingering showers on the backside of the low pressure as it moves out of here it moves out we will be looking at drier conditions and sunshine for the afternoon. temperatures not warming up a whole lot because the flow is going to be from the northwest. because of the northwest flow this activity is to the south and we should be between low pressure departing and this low pressure moving to the south. high pressure is going to build in here for the rest of the week. what that will do is definitely make for a nicer looking mid-to late week period. 56 degrees at the inner harbor and cloudy skies only being reported there. winds at 9 miles per hour and the 85% humidity, and barometer is on the rise already. pretty mild in baltimore and close to the same na salisbury at 55, and 52 up in hagerstown, and a cool 41 in oakland. there goes the low pressure center taking the rainshowers with it. what will happen is we will get on the backside of it energy will produce the shower that we

see toward the south later in the day and even back to the west not impossible. even the central counties could see light showers in spots. generally a drier trend with the drying air coming from the northwest. we will be sitting at the departing low with the approaching high and that is why the winds will become a bit of a factor. it will be breezier today and even windier tomorrow as the pressure grade changes. that low will stay to the south and it shouldn't present us any problems. what we will be if you like warmer temperatures, just that, the jet stream stirring temperatures from the north and you can expect the temperatures to get the low to the mid-to upper 80s this weekend. today 62 degrees for the high, showers around for the eastern shore, northwest wind at 10-15 miles per hour. the central part of the state get looking to get to 62 degrees for the high. northwest winds at 510 mile 5-1s per hour.
