i'm patrice harris. today is the final day before the 135th running of the preakness stakes and we're bringing you live team coverage from pimlico all morning long. joeld jight is liv smith is livk and he is going to go overall the events and last minute preparations taking place and meteorologist steve fertig is live at the stakes barn and we will check with him before going to joel. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. we're looking at stall 4 and now we're seeing the other side of super saver. the kentucky derby winner. we were looking at the rear. now he has shown his head. i think he heard he is a philly out here, or something. he should be happy that there's not. last year there was a philly and they won. let's take a look at what is happening at the weather concerns because as you boy and girls head out here and you want

to know how it's going to be but it's going to be rather nice. before we get there today. it's a different story. we have showers to the north and drizzle out here and fog this morning. but with the temperatures climbing later in the day it will make for a juicy atmosphere. right now temperatures only in the 50s throughout the area but it will climb well into the 70s by noon and probably into the 80s shortly thereafter, about 85 we're looking for a high temperature for today. again, the thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could be strong to severe so we will be watching for that. you will want to check on fox 45 morning news, to see any updates with regard to the storms. it will be beautiful, a lot different than the kentucky derby was when we had showers earlier this season. a lot of sunshine, temperatures around 76 degrees for the high. post time right around 72. can't beat that. what about the roadways? we can't beat the traffic this morning.

candace. >> reporter: steve, unfortunately we do have trouble to talk about in baltimore county. we want to show you what the area looks like and the quarters and you're taking a live look right now all of these crews are on the scene of a very serious apartment fire. it does completely shutdown right pine road as bol bole lows quarter road. as far as the beltway is concerned moving through the baltimore county area, nothing to complain about there. from 95 to 83, 11 minutes at 54 miles per hour. the same speed with only an 8 minute clip from 83 up toward 795. as you go around the west side of the beltway, so far a picture perfect ride from 795 toward 95, 11 minutes, 55 miles per hour. that's a look at the morning traffic. patrice, back over to you. we are following breaking news this morning. a three-alarm fire sends one person to the hospital and

destroy the homes of several others in baltimore county. megan gilliland joins us live in middle river with the latest, good morning, megan. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. we are at the sen seneca bay apartments here this morning. you can see a lot of crews and while they're working on put out the fire, there's a sigh of relief no one was hurt. the apartments took 25 to 30 out of their homes. they won't be able to go back in and one of those people is with me right now. you were one door over from where all of these crews are, what is why going through your mind at that point? >> i spoke to sometime people that live next door to where i do, and they totally lost everything. i might be quite safe on my aspect but this morning waking up to the flames shooting. i will forward photos to you, but the flames shooting -- i don't even know how to explain it right now. just waking up and seeing that

and knowing what is going on with your unit. apparently these pokes have lost everything. >> reporter: when you go outside and the fire alarm goes up and -- my neighbors knocked at my door. we had a false alarm a few weeks back where there was a fire in the woods that invaded everything. this is the real thing today. >> reporter: a the lot of these residents and your neighbors standing here and seeing what has happened. what are you guys saying to each other? >> well, basically everybody is thankful that we're okay. everybody is all right and you know, things can be replaced. so i mean, things can be replaced but you know, we got to find someplace for these other people to be able to go back to after this all said and done. >> reporter: what do you do from here? at this point you can go in. your apartment wasn't as badly damaged as the others that were destroyed. are you able to go back home tonight? >> i don't know. i'm not sure yet. i haven't heard any word.

>> reporter: tim, we're glad that you're okay and the rest of the residents as well. we're live in balt are month county on the breaking news story. megan gilliland, fox 45 morning news. a watermain break in essex could cost you sometime on the roads. as we heard candace say back knifer roaneck river road is sh. the watermain broke yesterday afternoon. it has had five breaks since october. this time, 7 businesses, three homes, and a senior apartment complex, and three hydrants are left without water. the infrastructure is causing wear and tear but there's another factor here. recently they put new asphalt and the heavy equipment they used to do it, could have more than what the road could take. >> we have to replace 3% every year and in the last year we didn't replace it.

>> the county is responsible to replace the entire main. we have learned that it's on the list to be replaced. hopefully soon, and neighbors are expected to have water later today. for all of you driving through the area, expect delays for the next several days. the family of a young girl who was electrocuted while playing softball will be in court today. an evidence hearing is scheduled for 9:00 this morning in the civil case filed by the family of deanna green. the 14-year-old girl died in hay of 2006 after coming in contact with an underground cable in druid hill park. her parents are seeking damages from dell electric. they worked in the company several times in the years leading up to their daughter's death. more fallout from the riots after a maryland duke basketball game in march. six more students face charges, including arson, rioting and distruction of property. the charges are based on video

from 350 security cameras in the area. video captured by a student during the riots, fired up controversy. it appears to show police beating a student without provocation. 4 officers were suspended. the preakness is a day away but the big weekend of races actually starts in just a few hours. joel di d smith is alive at pimo where the tension continues to mount even before the first mount of the day. good morning, joel. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. you're talking about the mount. that is what it's called. and the jockeys get on the horse and get ready to go. throughout the day, it won't just be the big race you're talking about the preakness, but they will have a bunch of races throughout the day. each time they will be here in the jockey's room. you know the difference. the saddles are here. and you have wear the different colors depending on what number you are. you always see the pictures of

them getting real muddy when they're racing. these are the goggles that they put on. and they got to take it off and get another one. it's kind of cool when you can see behind the scenes. over here it the different numbers and you see the sill beings, the same color through every number throughout. the number you might be looking for this time, that is number 8. that is what they will be wearing on super saver, the favorite. if you want to talk to jockeys, this is off-limits. you can't come in here but you can meet them today. you can meet them on the track and ask pointers as to what they think will happen on the racetrack tomorrow. today the racing begins at 12:15. the black eye susan the race happens at 6:00. and the post time is 12:00. you can get out here and get your betting scenario and we will handicappers to help you out later on with that. patrice. what do you think? >> i think it's pretty cool to be there.

here is steve fertig with a look at what we can expect for weather but more importantly what we are going to have tomorrow for the actual preakness. good morning, patrice. and putting pressure on super saver. it's been 32 since the last triple crown winner affirmed it 1978. no pressure, super saver, but we all want to see it. we want to see a nice forecast

for the actual day itself and it will be. first let's get to today and start right now. because we do have strong to severe storms this afternoon into the evening. as we look at temperatures, we start off in the biz in many locations -- 50s in the locations and 55 at hagerstown and 55 in salisbury. the radar indicates that we have showers to the north and drizzle around here and fog around in spots. we're looking for some improvement with a lot of temperatures only. the temperatures will be climbing quite a bit. however, so will the humidity and that will make for a supervisor he atmosphere. you look at the surface map and you do see a chance of showers and thunderstorms moving through between looks like 5:00 when we start to see showers moving in. it could be earlier than that certainly and continuing into the evening hours and probably not tapering off until the showers at 5 or 10:00 when they're out of here. the good news is high pressure will build behind that front. it will cool down for tomorrow

making it comfortable indeed, a little breezy but a very nice day for sprackness. her-- preakness. here is a look at the forecast, we will start climbing to 85 degrees, and the thunderstorm chances. you will see about any updates regarding the storm. toantonight mild night. chance of thunderstorms but they will taper off and we will see partial clearing overnight. as far as preakness, a look at the 76 degrees for a high tomorrow. and it will be a dry day, the post time temperature around 72. quite a difference from the kentucky derby when we had wet conditions out there. we will see what horses are better on the dry surfaces rather than on the wet surfaces. only five horses made it mere from the kentucky derby. we have a nice day on sunday as well. partly cloudy and mostly sunny skies, 73 for the high.

over in essex. there's a broken watermain and it was there yesterday. we can show you this scene. there, take a look at that and it does continue to shutdown back river neck road at old eastern avenue. route 702 is the way to get around that area. now on the beltway traveling near there at north point boulevard, let's check that out for you show you both directions. it's going to be a calm ride, just one or 2 cars traveling. indeed very light activity and farther up moving on 695, at harford road, well, there's been no mishaps to complain about and that continues to be the case. inner loop lanes and outer loop direction do

good morning, everybody. here is your first look at sports. with the majority of the preakness horses now at the stakes farm, the track at pimlico got more crowded on thursday morning. the horses hit the tracks to workout some the kinks and loosen up. as it's usually the case, the dawn patrol was in full evidence. kentucky derby super saver hit the track at 6:30 this morning for light exercise, a one mile jog just to get loose. and after the trip to move on wednesday, the jockey is happy with what he saw from his horse on wednesday morning. >> he looked great. he looked great. he settled in and ate well and seems relaxed and happy. we are pleased with the way he has come in. >> reporter: gary gomez, the nation's winning jockey last year lost his mount.

it was then that d wayne lucas pounced signing gomez to ride in the preakness. >> this is a more difficult race to ride than a lot of people know. this one is not easy to ride. even though it's a smaller field and everything, having that experience, having the world-class rider like i said, it's pay ton manning is in the locker room, you're not going to let him sit there and get him on the field. we made that change. if we can get a rider of his caliber we need to take advantage of it. this has been a horrible start for the orioles but things may be looking up. case in point yesterday. the birds were looking to in the process win the their second series of the season. kevin millwood looking for the illusive win of the season. and top of the second, and end the ening 5 strike outs on the
