the oil spill gushing in the gulf of mexico. the president was in the area yesterday. he is due to address the nation tonight. we are going to check in with megan gilliland in a few minutes to get a preview of what the president is going to address the nation about later this evening. good morning, i'm patrice harris. it's time to get a check of our forecast as we head into another hot day. meteorologist steve fertig is here. very humid yesterday, more of the same? >> actually we are going to be improving. this will be a little transition. we could get a little shower here and there. here is what we have, sky conditions are not going to be the prettiest. we will have a lot of clouds mixed in with the sunshine. definitely mild to start the day, 74 degrees in baltimore. 72 in hagerstown. as the frontal boundary have

sagged to the south. you see a line of thunderstorms through ohio but that is weakening some as the frontal boundary weakens moving through. we will talk about a chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially overnight tonight. before we get there, it will be a cooler 82 for the high with less humidity, too. it will be feeling better by the afternoon, even if we deal with a little light shower here and there. let's see what is happening on the roadways with candace dold. here is candace with the traffic edge. >> reporter: good morning, well, there's not too much happening on the main lines but we're checking on the beltway traveling at route 40. you're going to see it's an easy drive, just the cars that are starting to accumulate especially on the outer loop lanes toward 95. there's one incident in the area, it's a broken watermain, and it's going to be at frederick road at engel side avenue, just use route 40 as the alternate. as for 795, to 95, lech minutes to 54 miles per hour. things are looking good at

southbound lanes, fort mac mchey tunnel, and only 54 miles per hour, from the har bole tunnel l the way to 95. that's a look at the morning commute, patrice, back over to you. president barack obama will address the nation tonight about the massive oil spill in the gulf. he is returning from his 4th trip to the region and this time he didn't go alone. three members of maryland congressional delegation went along. megan gilliland with how these leaders plan to hold bp accountable and protect our shores. good morning, patrice, this is a live look at the oil spill in the gulf of mexico. up until last week, some of maryland lawmakers had only seen these images, now three of them have the accounts of the sights and the smells of what they call an environmental desaster.

senator mikulski and senator cummings just returned from the gulf. they believe that it will take another two months before it's contained. the area impacted is as big from ocean city, new jersey to richmond, virginia. mick cull 63 has beemikulski hat maryland beaches won't be affected but as it ease cables,p must be held accountable. >> bp has the ability to respond. what the government has to make sure is that the respond is timely. they have set up a compensation fund for people along the coast. the oil giant says that the cost for the spill is $1.6 billion and that is a number that is expected to rise with the countless number of lawsuits filed against bp.

for others his death has become a lightning rod. we have the viewing of tyrone brown, the man shot 12 times by a police officer last week. >> reporter: good morning, patrice and everyone. it starts at 8:30 the viewing does and it lasts all day long so it has a long period of time for family and friends to get together to remember marine tyrone brown. they will be talking about something else, the first-degree murder charges of a 13 year veteran of the force. we are talking about tshamba. he is being accused of first-degree murder and being held without bail. yesterday for the first time his attorney addressed the first-degree murder charge saying that the tshamba was acting in self-defense. the officer was off-duty when a female got upset after being groped by tyrone brown. that is when tshamba confronted

and identified himself as a police officer. it seems what happened to the key to that co confrontation wil be the key to this case. >> 13 shots were fired against this victim. that is against our training. >> a police officer has to do what he has to do to preserve his life. if one shot, doesn't work, and 2, 3, and 4, doesn't work, you fire until the threat is gone. >> reporter: tshamba could face the death penalty. family members of brown say they are grateful that the charges should come to quickly. many of them will be here for the viewing, starting at 8:30 and going all day long. the actual wake for tyrone brown is tomorrow at wake state university. joel d smith, fox 45 early edition. police make two arrests in the killing of a police officer. tyrone williams is in the city lock up because he was wanted on

a violation of probation charge. williams and his friend are charged with murdering wesley brown. it is ti williams was escorted r not paying his bill, half an hour later, brown was gunned down in the parking lot. milton has admitted that they returned to the scene and fired those shots. which suspect fired the shots it's not clear, but they want the friend held responsible. >> he can get live in prison. i won't ever enjoy these streets to walk them anymore because wesley won't be able to, never again. >> the weapon have been discovered with other key evidence. both suspects have extensive records. the man who shot a little girl in last will learn his fate

today. davis was convicted after he shot wyatt in the head. he faces up 65 years in prison. the woman accused of scamming former high school classmates by claiming she had terminal cancer is in court today. >> you did not what. >> have cancer. >> baltimore county police say lina leoni took $12,000 given to grant her dying wishes. she when we spoke with her, she admitted she was wrong. >> did it hurt, absolutely. i'm sorry to the victim's because she does have cancer and i pray for her every day that she gets better. >> she is accused of conspiracy and her husband is also named in the indictment. players and fans at the last night san diego padre's game got

more than just baseball. >> we're experiencing a tremor here at the ballpark in san diego and it's very significant. >> it had to be scary, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake shook the padre stadium enough for everybody to feel it. you could see the light polls and swaying back and forth. the earthquake could be felt as far away as los angeles. there was no reports of significant damage. ranginraging floodwaters in oklahoma and more rain could be on the way. thunderstorms dropped 10 inches of rain, it caused flooded homes and washed out roads and another two inches of rain is expected today. laura engel reports on rescue efforts in oklahoma as people in arkansas are cleaning up. >> reporter: a 17 years old in oklahoma city desperately clinging to tree branches with

floodwaters threatening to pull her under. >> as you can tell, it's very difficult to locate anybody here. >> reporter: rescuers within a boat, within minutes their boat filled with water and they need rescuing, too. >> at the time we are talking to them, the firefighters have the radio and they say they're in the keys. >> reporter: firefighters cause to see the floodwaters rise quickly. dozens of drivers stuck on washed out roads. weekend rain in arkansas turned deadly. >> i know it was going to get bad is when cars starting floating by. >> reporter: rising water, the cause of more than a dozen deaths. >> i understand why my family was taken away from them. >> reporter: one family was able to escape a campground. >> after going under and pulling her back up and losing all

knife 14:00 on fox 45 early edition. time for a check of our forecast. meteorologist steve fertig is here with what we can expect today. it's going to start mild, the only thing it's not going to warm up a whole lot. no 90s today like we had yesterday. for now no rain, either, we have a few showers to the south. as we put these into motion, you will see most of the activity last night skirting to the south and east of us. however, there are showers to the north and west, that could be moving in for later this afternoon as the frontal boundary weakens as it does. mostly cloudy right now. southwest winds at 3 miles per hour and the barometer is at 29.96 and rising. humidity is at 76%. it's still humid right now. we're going to get more of an easterly flow and that will dry a little bit as far as the

humidity values. it won't be as uncomfortable and the temperatures won't climb much more than from where we start. 72? salisbury. warm start but again, what has happened is the stationary boundary is to the south now. we're going to get more of a northeasterly flow coming in and that is going to allow the temperatures to warm up, near 80s to near 90. it will lower the humidity value and we will feel better. with the stationary boundary a chance of a few showers moving in this afternoon and eventually the frontal boundary returns as the warm front points north. that will bring increased chances for showers and thunderstorms overnight tonight with the frontal boundary that follows, the cold front that increases the chance for thunderstorms tomorrow. that is the best chance, as we were saying, yesterday and now are saying again. we are going to see the best chance of thunderstorms again into your wednesday. behind that the high pressure builds in and we will dry out as we head toward end of the week.

area is not immune to the crime. >> you can ab abducted and thrown into a van and put into sex labor or some type of sexual exploitation. >> reporter: just last week, two men were arrested in anne arundel county, their crime, sex trafficking of a 19 years old. >> it's happening in our own backyards and that domestic minor sex trafficking of americans is a major issue that we have got to do something about. >> reporter: we are out there and we're looking for these predators and we're looking for these people that abduct young women, young men and exploit them. >> experts say west baltimore actually has the highest concentration of sex trafficking in the city. regionally, they say the district of columbia ranks in top five 5:23 is the time. bp may stand for billion-dollar pay out as the cost of the oil spill grows. and starbucks may soften the coffee by offering free internet service. oil keeps spilling and costs keep mounting. bp saying the spill is costing
