gansler officially announced his candidacy for governor today outside the montgomery county courthouse in rockville. he will face off against democrat lieutenant governor anthony brown in the primary. and already.... many political analysts are predicting a close race. < "we're looking forward to the race and looking forward to the campaign. it'll be a good campaign. a spirited campaign. we're all democrats, but we see things a little bit differently."> gansler will spend the rest of the week on the campaign trail... making stops everywhere from western maryland to the eastern shore. he has not yet announced who will be his running mate. former anne arundel county executive john leopold says his misconduct in office conviction shouldn't bar him from running for office again. leopold served 30 days in jail and 30 days house arrest after being convicted last january. but the politician's attorneys filed an appeals motion this month, saying the judge had no authority to ban their client from running for elected office during his five- year probation. that appeal will be heard next

january. one of the first people to accuse leopold of misconduct has agreed to end her lawsuit against the county. today, county officials agreed to pay leopold's former spokeswoman, karla hamner, 110-thousand dollars to resolve her wngful termination case.... hamner had accused leopold of firing her when she refused to help with his re- election campaign. she'd become a political target, herself, since filing the lawsuit three years ago. starts to turn into a driveway...not seeing the oncoming lamborghini streaking down the road. the impact splits the car in half... fortunately no one was injured. but we're sure those at the insurance company suffered chest pains. a good day for an oregon man who found an extra treat in a box of cookies he bought at wal-mart. a hundred dollar bill stuffed inside. at first, he thought it was some kind of mistake, so he returned it, only to find the next box he pulled off the shelf also had a c-note in it. wal-mart officials believe it's the work of some random good samaritan, and let thman keep both boxes...as well as the money. and it was a long time coming for this good day for 99 year old audrey crabtree of waterloo, iowa. you see, audrey dropped out of high school back in 1931 to have a family. and now, eight decades later, she received her diploma from east high school. in the interim, she raised her family and ran a flower shop, but always regretted not finishing school. have charged two men with last week's shooting on a basketball court that left 13 people wounded. while they're not accused of being the shooters, investigators say 21 year old ron champ and 20 year old kee-wan gatewood played a significant role in the shooting. investigators believe the shooting was gang-related, and are still looking for the actual gunmen. we're into hour eight now of texas senator ted cruz's monologue- slash-filibuster protesting health care reform. it isn't an actual filibuster because this speech does not block a vote on legislation, and has a 30 hour time limit attached to it. but the junior senator is using the time to talk about a host of topics, including comparing health care reform to the doctor seuss classic, "green eggs and ham."

machado suffered a tear in the media patello-femoral ligament in the left knee... which controls the movement of the kneecap.. but it doesn't look as if he'll need surgery.. it will be 6-8 weeks before he can do anything baseball-wise.. so it's not an acl or mcl injury.. the orioles are taking that as relatively good news... now to the game itself...machado on the bench getting a nice hand from the fans...and they liked this, too... bottom 3rd...birds trail 1-0, but then brian roberts jerks this one over the wall in right...his 7th, and the game is tied.. ..and then the very next hitter, nate mc ,louth, does likewise.. his 12th of the year..and 100th
