baltimore city schools issued a written statement... saying that students involved were taken to the department of juvenile services... it went on to say that the school will be taking appropriate action. i'm megan gilliland, fox45 morning news. see the entire video for yourself at fox-baltimore dot com. just click on "around the web" in the hot topics section on the left side of the screen. a "welcome back" e-mail at the university of maryland... has the director of the school's honors college in hot water this mroning. in the email... william dorland references the trayvon martin case saying "this year, we learned that it is legal to hunt down and kill american children in florida." and he also references recent gun control laws... saying, in part "the most activist supreme court in the history... is challenging the very fabric of the nation." the email served as an invitation to a lecture with former n- double-a-cp

also denying the incident... saying on her twitter page that there was a verbal confrontation but that she didn't hit him. she also denies being a stripper. jones continues to rehab the knee he sprained during the season opener against denver. six people who attended a house-trashing party at a former n-f-l player's new york state home.. surrender to police they're facing numerous charges, including burglary and criminal mischief. here you see pictures of the damage done to the house owned brian holloway. officials say they expect to make additional arrests. the party took place last month......while holloway was out of state. a florida court has ordered a new trial for a woman sentenced to two decades in prison. she's convicted of firing a gun to scare off her allegedly abusive husband. ed payne tells us why they've made the ruling. a three-judge- appellate panel

chose to reverse marissa alexander's conviction because they say the jury, that took just 12 minutes to convict her, was given improper instructions on self-defense. they say the jury was told that in order for alexander to claim self- defense she had to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that her husband was about to seriously harm her. but the burden, they say, was on the prosecution to prove she was guilty of aggravated assault. this case goes back to august 1-st 20-10 when alexander picked up a handgun and fired a warning shot into a wall after she says her husband rico gray strangled and threatened to kill her. she claimed self-defense. "had i not discharged my weapon at that point, i would not be here." before her last trial, marissa alexander tried to use florida's "stand your ground law" to argue she was immune from prosecution... but a judge rejected it saying her decision to go back into the house to confront her husband was not consistent with someone who feared for her safety. she won't get a new chance at immunity, but alexander's lawyer bruce zimet says his client will get a chance to be

heard. "she's ecstatic; she can't wait to get back with her family and to be vindicated." i'm ed payne reporting. the office of the florida state attorney for duval county says alexander's conviction "was reversed on a legal technicality." "do you want fries with that" won't be your only option at mcdonalds next year. the restaurant chain will start to offer side salads at no additional cost in value meals in 2014. it's part of a partnership between the fast food giant and the clinton foundation. they will also make water, milk and juice the beverage that comes with a happy meal. mcdonald's says these new changes will happen in 20 major markets around the world and will be fully implemented by 2020. the orioles may not be heading to the offseason this

without insurance can purchase a plan in an online markeplace. open enrollement begins october first...the same day funding for the government runs out if lawmakers don't come up with a temporary spending bill. the president is blasting republicans who have pulled out all stops to repeal the law. obama: some have threatened a government shut down if they can't shut down this law. others have actually threatened an economic shut down by refusing to pay america's bills. if they can't delay the law. that's not going to happen as long as i'm president." / / obama says: "in the wealthiest nation on earth, no one should go broke just because they get sick. the administration offered the most detailed information so far about obamacare this week...insisting it'll do what the president pledged. ...but the report shows some people may end up paying higher rates than they are now. that's because the new law requires the addition of what it calls "essential benefits" a

whole list of things that must be covered... which make insurance more expensive than it is now. holtz-eakin says: "this report is intended to send the message, 'hey everybody wins. this is a great thing, please show up.' that's not the reality. the reality is much messier. there's gonna be some people who do better. there are gonna be a lot of people who do much, much worse." as americans prepare for the healthcare exchanges to open tuesday, a lot of questions remain. we asked national correspondent kristine frazao to look at some of the most common questions.. to find simple answers. intro stand-up kristine frazao "in just a few days, healthcare exchanges as part of the affordable care act go online. here in washington obamacare as it's come to be known has become the most used political football. but it's also a reality for million of americans...and we wanted to answer some of the questions people most commonly have. [[take fullscreen]] question number one is for those of you who already have health insurance through your job - what you need to do? the answer is pretty simple - says doctor mark mcclellan- senior fellow at the brookings institution. 1:04 - 1:10 for people who have coverage through their job you should

look to your employer first, not to the exchanges. [[take fullscreen #2]] as far as who does need to register? anyone who doesn't have insurance. but october first is when the exchanges open. you have until the end of march 2014 to register. if you want coverage sooner, then sign up sooner. [[take fullscreen #3]] if you don't have insurance and you don't sign up.you'll be required to pay a penalty on your 2014 tax return. for people with lower incomes - they are eligible to get help affording the premiums so paying the fine is not cheaper for everyone. 2:46 the question may be is it worth getting the insurance and everything i have to pay for that versus the risk of not having coverage if i need it. 2:55 [[fullscreen #4]] now onto one of the most popular questions - will i keep to keep the doctor i have? for most people the answer is yes. 3:41 most people who have coverage though their job are not going to be directly affected by the new exchanges 3:47 people who may not are those who buy health insurance on your own or who are getting it through a small business. fullscreen #5]] finally, what does it mean if your state is not participating in the exchanges? 6:35 the law requiring you to have insurance or pay a fine applies to everyone in the united states regardless of whether your state govt is participating in the exchanges. first on fox... violence erupts at patterson high school. dozens of students begin fighting... and it's all caught on camera. megan gilliland is live in east baltimore where some students were pepper sprayed to break it up. good morning guys, there were two huge fights here on monday. we spoke with some students... who say something has to change... fighting nats... you are taking a look at cell phone video of the first fight... in the cafeteria... it was captuered by a junior here at patterson high school. the violence later spills out into a nearby courtyard
