and more where that came from. temperatures in boon 28 and shelby, everyone is below the freezing mark. we have been there the entire day and night. we have had one wave of precipitation. and food hills and triad. they had snow falling. and it looked like there was snow falling. it had been too dry so far. and the rest of the precipitation moves in and we have a winter storm warning in affect for the counties in pink. and a winter weather advisory to the south. and keep your eyes to the sky heading out late tonight and tomorrow morning.

the mexican southern border. >> anchor: concern about the zika virus. mexican officials started the mosquito spraying and house fumigation to protect the pope from the disease. and a false alarm forced a school in lock down. there were reports of gunmen wearing all black on campus. it turns out they were filming a video project and the gunmen were actors. the students had just set down to lunch. >> it was at the the point where we just thought something was wrong. we saw workers kind of -- [inaudible] everyone was just kind of ran out of the back.

more prepared than a few months ago when a man drove on on the campus with a shotgun. officers were injured in baton rouge. the man stopped the car in front of his house and began to fire shots at the officers. the man died from his injuries. one officer shot in the stomach and the other in the head. people say it was a miracle they survived. >> in the back of the head. and the officer is dead. and get one more inch with a high calber weapon and go through the officer's vest and potentially kill him. we are learning more information now about the death of a supreme court justice. there will be no autopsy on the justice scalia.

family and officials in texas. the justice died in his trip in a hunting trip and he was found unpresponsive when he did not show up for break of the fa. his death is starting a major political battle over his successor. we are just one week out from the south carolina primary, and a new cbs poll shows donald trump up 22 percent compared to senator ted cruz. but marco rubio is riding the wave after last night's debate as he hopes to recover from stumbles in the previous debate. rubio and cruz sparred over immigration and an interview that rubio gave in spanish. >> marco supports citizenship for 12 million. >> i don't know how he knows what i said.

>> anchor: and senator sanders made the sunday news show and hillary clinton campaigned in nevada. that race is getting heated and interesting to watch it unfold there and our weather is interesting to watch here, too, i would say. >> meteorologist: it is getting better and dryer and things can be little better than we originally anticipated. we'll look at what is going on right now. we have dry conditions in the area. and it is will valentine's day and you can see the pink lights out there. that's why they are pink. hopefully you had a good one. we'll talk about temperatures in the 20s to 30s and 13 your current temperature in boon. and the next graphic is dew point.

mountains in areas and foothills. that was light and it is not reaching the ground. we have more precipitation back the west. it is around mississippi or arkansas area and that is pushing and bringing more precipitation. >> and here's what it looks like as far as the snow is concerned. and heading overnight to tomorrow morning. the mountain counties, you will be seeing the snow once again. that is dryer. and that is good news. precipitation. and we may see is a winter mix and not much to see in the charlotte area. and this is 10:00 a.m. and this is showing most of the area is pretty dry. and this is a step in the right direction and hopefully that will be be closer to the reality.

a winter mix. and foothills counties. and heaviest comes overnight. and fohill's counties and that is the best potential for icing and sleet and freezing rain to cause problems. we are not looking at major accumulation and that will be the bull's eye and even the mountain areas are turning over to rain until late afternoon and ovening hours. this is really heavy rain holding off overnight and monday night and thursday morning and moves out on today and looking much better by then. and totals right now, i hope they will be lower ared more. and we are looking at less than a inch in the charlottesville area.
