there, who say crime has gone up. one woman told us she was afraid to talk to the media because she feared she would be the next victim. another neighbor told us it's time to move. we have continuing coverage tonight. >> reporter: barrington drive was lit up with flashing lights tuesday night. police arrived on scene, shortly after sierra ferguson says she found her boyfriend shot and bleeding on a sidewalk. we spoke with ferguson today by phone, she was at the hospital where brown is now recovering. >> they told me the surgery went great. >> reporter: several people we talked to today were so afraid for their lives they did not want to go on camera because they were afraid of some sort of retaliation against them. that's the sense of fear we kept finding in the communities. in fact, one woman told us today because of the violence in her neighborhood, she's ready to move. >> it's time for me to move. move from over here. because it's rough wherever you

navarro faces seven counts and a maximum of life in prison if found guilty. when navarro last june, he said he was inspect. another accused gang member caesar perez entered a plea deal. both men's pleas will now have to be approved by the district judge. tonight a very troubling case of a teenager allegedly lured into a group beating. even worse it was caught on camera. police say other teens pulled out their phones and recorded it. snowflake -- some of them heard in the background laughing. i want to warn you, the video it's hard to watch. wbtv on your side anchor brigida mack has the story new on prime time. >> reporter: the cell phone video is grainy, but police say it shows a 16-year-old girl attacked by what appears to be another teenage girl. moments later two other girls join in on the beating. >> this is the first time in her life she's ever been in a fight. she had no idea what was going

family friend of mattie , the girl who suffered life-threatening injuries in the fight. he's speaking on behalf of mattie and her family as she recovers from a ruptured spleen, fractured ribs and internal bleeding. >> there's a community responsibility here. parents aren't pay attention to what's going on with their kids. kids have the wrong impression that violence is okay. and if you get facebook likes you're more popular than somebody else. >> reporter: this is the alley way, an area where police say the fight took place. gallon's police chief says multiple people recorded the incident on their cell phones. he calls the fight disturbing on many levels. >> everybody had the cell phone in their hand and was willing to videotape it, but not one of them was willing to call 911. there were plenty of people there to stop it and they chose not to. >> reporter: thris -- police are still trying to identify the participants and the roles in the fight. the family is doing whatever

our news partners at the "charlotte observer" report state insurance commissioner wayne goodwin plans to send the maximum possible fine to the insurer for administrative failures. goodwin says his agency has gotten over 8,700 calls and 1,900 formal complaints against the insurance company. goodwin is now asking anyone who has experienced problems this year to contact his office, so he and his staff can come up with a financial penalty against blue cross and blue shield. a live look through our h.d. towercam on this wednesday evening and i keep focusing in on the little temperature at the bottom of the screen. is it still really in the low 70s? >> yes, it is, maureen. now we've just hit 69 out at the international airport. we'll show you that coming up in just a minute. but have a look at your doppler radar as we wait for this system out over the middle of the country to come towards the

have the chickenpox virus and all had been vaccinated. the county health director has ordered unvaccinated kids to stay out of the school and in quarantine for 21 days. time now from a look -- time now for a look at what's trending tonight. today a man and woman are in jail after deputies in alexander county say they were spotted trying to bury a body. scie 3 -- sky 3 flew over the scene in the ellendale community. deputies say a neighbor saw a car on the property of an abandoned house. when they responded, they found the man and the woman there. a father is demanding harsh punishment after a video of his daughter undressing is posted on social media. police in decatur, alabama, a middle school student recorded the 13-year-old while she was changing in the locker room. then that child posted that on snapchat.

>> reporter: how autism affected a little boy for more than half of his life. a.j. didn't speak, he didn't even make sounds. >> i so desperately wanted to just hear what he sounded like. >> reporter: his mom tried everything for her son. then one day during a therapy session, something changed. >> >> he was having a bad day. wasn't really getting much out of it. and so the therapist said let's just take a break and we let him play basketball. >> reporter: the therapist watched a.j. for a few minutes and then decided to continue while he was playing basketball. >> i'll tell anyone he loved basketball before he was born. >> what color is this? >> red. >> red. high five! >> you just start to see his personality start to wake up as he's playing. >> reporter: his mother says the game of basketball has helped her find her son.

@wbtv.com and i had a chance to talk to her about a.j. he's going to be going to the harlem globetrotters game and he is going to be really excited about that when they're at the halton arena. coming up in march. >> eric: they'll throw the bucket of water, which turns out to be confetti. they're hilarious. all right. good story. >> maureen: let's talk about the system, eric. i guess our weekends might have a little bit of an impact? >> eric: yes, maureen. it certainly will weaken and if you've been hearing us at all during the day today, you've gotten a score on this system. it is devastating. the amount of rainfall down here right now is well over a foot. especially in north louisiana and it looks like that this could add up to more than 20 inches of rain. if you look to the south, there's more and more coming in that pipeline. and so it's a very scary situation for the folks down there. we already have reports of fatalities and if they hit say that 20-inch rainfall mark, which is likely, keep in mind

rainfall you might expect with a landfalling major hurricane. so again this is a big, big story that we'll continue to watch. of course, eventually some of that rain, that's pretty clear. so it is going to start working its way towards the carolinas. in the meantime, your scott clark nissan honda h.d. towercam. here it is. it's a quiet evening. we're not going to deal with that rain yet. but we are enjoying this mild weather. how about that 69 degrees. the average high temperature this time of the year is 61 degrees. well, look when we'll hit that tonight. midnight will be our average high temperature. very impressive and you'll see if you're heading out, you unlikely will need a jacket. it's just that mild. all right. meantime, we'll get back to the futurecast. the rain continues to roll over the same states, louisiana, it arkansas, texas. and then working its way into the ohio valley. but you'll see overnight tonight through thursday morning, maybe some morning clouds around, but overall no rain just yet.

fair skies and mild and here's what it looks like. charlotte and vicinity, 59 degrees. boy, what a mild start that is. all right. one more time. your futurecast will start you again. here's your clock. thursday morning just a few clouds around. but the rainfall itself still well off to the west. getting a bit closer now. working its way across northern alabama and also central sections of tennessee. but for our part, just another mild day. we'll call it 73. through the noon hour, we'll take you right back up to 77 at 7:00. now look at this. you'll see the first line of rain that i just pointed out over alabama is really running out of gas. the upper level support is still i think a -- anchored. the lines of showers will be over top us and all of a sudden just evaporate. but eventually we will start to be on the lookout for that rain. it doesn't look like much at this point perform and it's still a ways off, even during the day on friday. but a couple of showers could eject out ahead of it, but the
