the residual slow downs, everybody slowing down because there is such a large police presence there. here is a live look, i-77 northbound at nations ford road in charlotte, 77, 85 can looing pretty good. keep an eye on that, that is a check of traffic, you're never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic on wbtv news this morning. here is al conklin. >> al: out there this morning, chris, a cold one, clear skies, dry conditions and light breezes. that allowed temperatures to fall off, this is at allen elementary school. the moon looks like the sun, another two hours and we often times will get coldest just before the sun comes up. we're likely to fall another couple degrees here before sunrise. 30 degrees in statesville, salisbury, 31, wadesboro, albermarle, 29 in morgan-on-to, at freezing now for shelby and gastonia, down to rock hill, lancaster, 37 in charlotte. today, lots of sunshine and nice temperature turn-around an

angle is getting high, as we approach the end of the month, we will warm up nicely. mostly in the mid to upper 60s. statesville 66, 69 rock hill, 68 in charlotte. talk about getting warmer tomorrow, but also have a couple opportunities for rain. that part of the forecast in a couple minutes. john, back to you. >> john: also following this major breaking story involving two deadly explosions at the airport in brussels. also at a metro center. get over to brody o'connell with the latest details, he has been following this throughout the morning in the alert center. >> brody: good morning to all of you joining us in this half hour. get you caught up to speed. brussels is under attack this morning. let's start with the blast at the airport. we have a live picture for you from the scene there. here is what we know so far, cbs reporting two blasts occurred here at the airport inside, 13 people have been reported dead there. dozens others injured. we know there is also a third explosion that took place at a

this was a train station near eu offices. those eu offices have been closed down completely with the train station. terror level goes to the maximum level in the wake of this explosion. that is for belgium. they have boosted had to a ma, i mum level for alertness and also obviously, with the carnage at the airport, all flights cancelled and flights are being diverted atdiverted. we did just get word from a witness who was in the airport, here is how they described the attack. >> >> you feelal wave, an explosion, a wave. you knew as soon as it happened it was a terrorist attack. >> brody: cbs news in brussels, you may recall one of the architects of the paris attack which killed 130 people was

not clear if that has any link to this but certainly something they are looking into and by the way i'm seeing reports that the president of france has called an emergency meeting in the last 15 minutes directly related to these attacks. john and christine, that is the latest from the alert center, back to you. >> christine: we'll check back with you, thanks. a non-profit that advocates for children in charlotte-mecklenburg schools wants your opinion on the search for the district's new superintendent. meck ed will have a community conversation on the superintendent search. starts at 5:30 in the cafeteria at garinger high school. also looking ahead mecklenburg county commissioners will continue their work today on next year's budget. the board is having a budget and public policy workshop this afternoon. the work will focus on paying for early childhood education. new this morning, at 5:34, marines are investigating the death of a recruit in south carolina. officials say he died friday at

depot on parf ris parris island. >> john: f.b.i. will be in charlotte to train college police departments in the area. agents will train departments on tactical scenario at johnson c. smith university. they sent notifications about the training so they wouldn't be alarmed. >> christine: big changes to southpark involves replaceing sharon united methodist church with apartments and hotel and office space. would include a church facility for sharon united methodist. council members approved 335 new amounts apartments along the lynx blue line. the station is set to open next

a girl's team in morgan ton will be honored for winning the state championship. a parade for the parade will be held in downtown morganton t. they won the 3a state championship earlier this month in chapel hill. congratulations to them. special olympics spring games are being held until rock hill today. 900 volunteer also are needed at cherry park. slow up and register to volunteer at 9:00 this morning. events start at 10:00. more than 1200 special olympic athletes from york, chester and lancaster counties are competing in track and field events. >> christine: cam newton is sharing a picture of his three month old son chosen. he postedded this picture of his feet, sticking out of a stroller. his caption included phrases you give me so much purpose, daddy miss you and he wanted to

time, and rebounding with mid to upper 50s to low 60s, by late this afternoon, upper 60s, looking very very nice, i think charlotte gets up to 68 degrees, that is a little bit above average this time of the year. you like that, you'll love tomorrow, 67 in boone, everybody else well in the 70s, with tons of sunshine again, and won't be so cold in the morning. high pressure is with us now, that is why we have the clear, calm conditions. that moves offshore, as it does, the the flow comes out of the south, that is also in advance of this frontal system, that brings plenty of warm weather tomorrow with the cloud-free sky. notice from wednesday morning into thursday morning, this frontal system starts to get closer to us, there is snow to the north of this. showers and thunderstorms to the south. as this pushes eastward, an increasing flow of moisture, showers and storms late thursday, thursday night in early friday morning. most of the rain will come while we're sleeping. thursday night into friday

so on either end of the day we only have 20% chance of rain. probably like 50, 60% chance during the night time hours, dry for good friday afternoon, saturday and most of sunday until we get in the afternoon and ramp up chances for rain again. sun-up at 7:24, sets at 7:38, with lots of sunshine, clear skies, twilight almost all the way up to 8:00. 65 is the normal high, better than that and ten degrees above that for tomorrow and thursday, but by thursday, we look for late thundershowers. early clouds and showers on friday will give way to plenty of sun. mostly sunny saturday, near 70 and sunday, easter sunrise at 7:16, i this i we're going to be dry, the models are not very consistent on what time the rain arrives on sunday but right now back end-loaded in monday morning. that is the forecast, 5:45, let's check in with chris, first alert traffic. >> chris: first alert traffic is sponsored by toyota of north charlotte.

brookshire boulevard, that 16 outbound up toward 485, fatal accident during the overnight hours shut down a portion of that, so outbound away from center city closed down, inbound lanes are open but if you're trying to make your way on the inner loop of 485, they are going to be blocking you there. also on the outer loop. so again, it would be rozzelles ferry road or over to mount holly-huntersville road and then down to the south toward belle belhaven. the rest of the charlotte commute looks good. most of the major highways are continuing to run in the green with a couple of accidents out there but 77, 85 looking okay. quick check of drive times, rock hill uptown, 21 minutes, concord to center city, 17 minutes, lake norman in center city, 16 minutes and 63 miles an hour. you're never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic on wbtv news this morning. >> john: a little girl's story

happened outside north carolina wesleyan college. around 8:30 last night. this morning we learned four people died in the crash. the driver of one vehicle was injured, all four people who died were in the same vehicle, according to police. police are investigating a possible cause of that crash. john and christine, back to you. >> john: new this morning, president obama has a busy day ahead of him as he continues his historic trip to cuba. today the president will deliver an address to the cuban people. once again call for expansion of human rights in cuba. then watch a baseball game between the cuban national team and tampa bay rays. >> christine: a california family vowing to get their foster daughter back. yesterday, six-year-old lexi taken away from the family she has been with since she was two. she is part native american, a court ordered should should live with relatives in utah. case centers around the indian child welfare act aims at keeping native american children

brookshire boulevard, that is highway 16 heading away from the city and up toward 485, lanes are blocked in that northbound direction. southbound lanes inbound toward center city are open this morning. but again if you're trying to make your way up toward that area, you may want to divert on belhaven, that would take you up to rozzelles ferry, you can work your way back to 16 either rozzelles ferry or mount holly-huntersville road. most of our major highways continuing to run in the green this morning. so the commute here at 5:54, running fairly smoothly. a new accident on beaties ford road, this is at tate street, just above highway 16. that is a check of traffic, christine, over to you. >> christine: we continue to watch several breaking news stories for you at this hour. several terror attacks in belgium, at 6:30, we talk with our security analyst, karl de la guerra live. >> john: a live look at brookshire boulevard near i-485 where the northbound outbound

hour-and-a-half, once the sun comes up, we go up quickly, in the upper 60s, don't judge the day by what you see right now. 62 lunch time, 68 this afternoon. seven day planner around the corner, christine, back to you. >> christine: back to breaking news if you're a commuter listen up, a crash in northwest charlotte leaves one person dead on brookshire boulevard and i-485 at 3:00 this morning. wbtv was first to report the crash on twitter, the outbound lanes of brookshire boulevard remain closed at this time. ashton pellom has been live at that scene bringing us updates throughout the morning. so ashton, have you been given a time frame on when the road will reopen? >> reporter: hey, good morning, christine. investigators out here tell me this portion of brookshire boulevard will be closed for the better half of the morning commute, probably around 7:30 until 8:00 as they investigate this fatal wreck that happened earlier this morning. i'm quickly going to step out of
