plane is expected to land within the hour, american airlines flight 550 took off when the crew diverted the flight to syracuse, landed around 7:00 we'll bring you more information as it becomes available. breaking this hour an amtrak derail it in vermont. that's right outside of mont pillier, the train is on the line which goes as far south as washington d.c. and as far north it was heading south when it derailed. also breaking this noon the coast guard now says a cargo ship has been lost at sea but they are not giving up this search for survivors. that cargo ship went missing in heavy seas that were churned up we hurricane joaquin.

33 crew members were on board including several from new england. live with late breaking details what do we know now. chris unfortunately they did find the body of one of the crew members in the water but they are hopeful that some of the others did survive, especially because so many many of them are experienced swimmers they believe they might be able to survive in the water for four to five days now it is a race against the clock to see if anyone survived the hurricane. the odds could not be more stacked against them. the coast guard determined the ship sank in hurricane joaquin near the bahamas thursday. you're talking 140 miles per hour winds seas upwards of 50 feet visibility basically at zero. those are challenging conditions to survive it. if anyone could survive, it is the 33 member el fero crew. >> these are trained people, they know how to properly abandon ship they know how to

a massive debris field revealed remains from the ship one crew member they could not identify. can captain emphasized the speed they are working. the ocean is not a static being, it is live, constantly moving. families in new england are among those waiting breathlessly for any news. but there was a hurricane out here we're heading straight into it category 3. last we checked winds are super bad and seas are not great, love to everyone. we're not going to discount somebody's will to survive and that's why we're still searching today. once the search concludes an investigation we'll begin from what we've heard the captain is extremely experienced but it is unclear what made him decide to drive right into a category 4 hurricane. in the satellite center, wbz

news, chris and catherine back to you. thank you very much for the update. new a noon, a police officer injured during a call. police say the man threated his wife then shot at police with a pellet gun before he was taken into custody. one officer was hurt but he is expected to be okay. record flooding in south carolina, the governor says the state hasn't sen weather like this in a thousand years, with 2 feet of rain reported in some areas, at least 7 people died in south and north carolina from the storm, roads are impossible and many don't have drinking water. coast guard helicopters rescued a mother and 15 month old daughter, more door to door search operations are underway right now. in columbia first responders rescued drivers, the city is asking residence not to leave their homes the 75-mile stretch of i-95 is shut down because of

colleges in philadelphia are on high alert after a warning. a threat of violence claiming an attack would happen at 2:00, no specific school was named and the threat was not enough to cancel any classes. the fbi is though urging law enforcement and campus communities to be aware of their surroundings. in new hampshire a weekend drill to make sure emergency responders are prepared for anything at the high school, crews held an active shooter drill but officials tell us the lessons learn could help in many types of emergencies. everything that people learned today, it is not just for an active shooter scenario. we could have a roof collapse, a fire, we'd have the same procedures. kennedy family secrets revealed but not all members of the famous family are happy about it.

senator ted kennedy released a book titled a common struggle not only relives his battle with addiction and mental illness but battles, and released a statement saying i admire him for challenges but heartbroken patrick choose to write who is an inaccurate and unfair portrayal of our family. it is important that we, all of us break the silence and the shame surrounding these issues. i don't pretend that it is going to be easy as you see, it provokes a reaction, that's what people are fearful about, is they are worried about breaking the family code, worried about being disloyal and nobody wants to be that.
