house spear. the expected move has forced republicans now to delay their house leadership vote. >> one of the men who stopped a gunman on a french train is in critical condition tonight. this is video that shows his return home, and this is the video that shows spencer stone being stabbed outside of a sacramento bar. investigators say the incident was not related to terrorism. now at 5:30, no sweat. an elderly woman slams into a newton gym and minutes later, her husband, the passenger goes inside just to workout. needless to say, neither one of them was hurt. >> tonight, police are trying to figure out why the driver lost control. beth? >> reporter: lisa, some here at boston sports club thought that was an unusual response to the crash because take a look at the damage behind me. you can see where the car went right through the wall where they are working now to make the repairs. it's fortunate no one was injured either inside or out. >> we heard a really huge bang.

>> reporter: a bang that shook the walls when the car came crashing through the boston sports club making it halfway inside. sadalia was in the room next to it. >> i saw one of the desks just move over. i thought it was an earthquake. >> reporter: police say this 82-year-old female driver was pulling into a handicapped parking space with her husband when she somehow kept going. fortunately, there was no one inside the now exposed room, a former physical therapy office now used for storage. the couple was uninjured. >> they were both outside of the car standing, so then it was just like, okay, that's fine. let's just get you guys inside. >> reporter: as hard as the crash was, police say it could have been worse if the walls here were made of concrete. >> the walls were made of stucco and insulation that was behind them. probably because of that, the way the vehicle went into the building, she wasn't injured. >> reporter: despite the harvey damage and chaos, the driver's

husband handled it his own way. he went in for his workout. >> i guess he felt that that's what he needed to do. i said okay, as long as it's cleared with the e -- emt. they said okay. police are now looking into how the driver lost control with enough force to go right through. i'm beth germano, wbz news. lisa? >> beth, thank you. we have wild video from connecticut this evening. a 17-year-old girl jumping out of a moving car, police say, to escape a kidnapper. the bridgeport police department released this edited surveillance video. you see somebody jump out of the gray toyota at the top of the screen here. she then gets up and runs away. police say this was a teenaged girl who had been lured into the car and assaulted by a woman in her 40s. so far, no one has been arrested. another little boy from maine who may have contracted e. coli at a county fair is in for a long recovery.

miles' father says the bacteria says his son is destroying his red blood cells. right now, the 17-month-old is in a pediatric intensive care unit where doctors are treating him with dialysis and blood transfusions. colleton gray died of the bacteria. both boys likely came into cop tact with the oxford fair petting zoo. a huge fire at the plant was an accident. it blew up at this time last night. today, investigators say it started in a building in a makeshift kiln. today the results show it is safe. david? >> lisa, a developing story tonight. an apology from a bigwig at volkswagen testifying on capitol hill, he said that he plans to compensate car owners who were duped by vw's cheating on emissions tests. craig boswell is in washington with the latest.

past winter is keeping thousands of massachusetts residents out of their homes even now. they say insurance companies aren't doing enough to help them. lauren leamanczyk takes a closer look. >> reporter: the ice dams should be a distant memory. >> we have water that came in, in every room coming through the windows, the ceilings, running down the walls. it just came in everywhere. >> reporter: instead, she finds herself still living in a mobile home in her driveway watching her house rot. >> it's just been stalled. >> reporter: eight months after this family filed their claim with the insurance company, she's fighting over water damage to floors and mold in the attic that she says developed because the remaidiation company left it -- remediation company left it soaking wet. wbz was there in september as workers finally began tearing down her walls. in sharon, michael is hoping to get out of his trailer and back into his home this month. the initial estimate was for $100,000.

his insurance company, united property and casualty offered him $60,000. >> i've been paying a little out of my own pocket trying to get it done. >> reporter: there's no hard numbers on how many unresolved claims there are statewide. it's estimated that there's a lot. are we talking dozens? >> thousands. >> reporter: he's still working on more than 60. are there going to be people who can't live in their homes as we start winter again? >> yes, unfortunately. >> reporter: a mountain of claims poured in as people chipped the ice off her roofs and discovered the mess left behind. according to pop, the first wave of adjustors arrived from all over the country, many from much warmer climates. some failed to document the full damage. >> people can't get the work done for what they estimated it. >> reporter: the state's biggest insurance companies say they have done their best. orbella tells wbz they have closed 87% of their thousands

ripoff. the owner of a popular weston restaurant is accusing former employees of stealing secret family recipes. the owner of dumpling daughters says they used the recipes to open a competing restaurant. >> as lauren leamanczyk shows us, she's now taking them to federal court. >> reporter: at dumpling daughters, customers wait for the doors to open. >> they're fantastic. i've never had a dumpling better than that. >> reporter: they dine on asian style buns. owner nadia says the secret to success for the almost year old restaurant is the food. >> i take a lot of pride in the

recipes that my mother and i created together. we tweaked everything together and it's very special to us. >> reporter: these are some of the dumplings customers rave about. the lawsuit allegations the recipe was ripped off by a former employee. spellman filed the suit but didn't want to comment so we drove to the other dumpling joint dumpling girl to see if the recipes were really stolen. no one here wanted to talk, but the menus tell the story. side by side, the dumpling offers are nearly identical as are the noodle dishes. many describe the ingredients verbatim including this ramen dish. as for the logos? you be the judge. >> i don't think it matters to us. >> reporter: not a big deal to the first time girl customers. to daughters -- >> that's scandalous. >> reporter: in this battle, it could down to how much dough a family recipe is worth.

the morning, it will be breezy and things start to ramp up. these gusts will be in the 20 to 45 mile-per-hour range. so it gets uncomfortable to be outside in the afternoon and evening. then we'll slowly start to die down as we head toward tomorrow night. then we warm up tomorrow. upper 60s to around 70 for high temps. then we'll crash back down into the weekend. one of the coolest days we've had so far this season. 58 degrees on saturday. so it will be a crisp start to the columbus day weekend. sunday moderates into the mid- 60s. by monday, we're into the low to middle 70s warming up each bright skies. the one thing that really has an impact this weekend is saturday night. we could get our first night. high pressure will be right over southern new england. we'll have light winds. looks like a clear sky. some clouds may tray to spill in from the north and that
