the expressway is now bumper to bumper from east milton square up to neponset circle. route 3 northbound is sluggish. 24 north is already heavy. brockton to 128. let's check the ride to the north with a look over 93 in somerville. in the andover stretch between river road and 125 and down when you hit woburn between 128 and park street. also just check route 3 southbound up in the lowell stretch stop and go from 129 to 495. chris, kathryn? it is 6:02 right now. we begin with breaking news this morning. a highway shooting in wrentham. >> investigators tell us one car was shot at. susie steimle is live with more. good morning. >> i can tell you probably the most remarkable part about the story is that no one was hurt. you'll see what i mean when you take a look at the vehicle.

the driver's side window of the sedan was completely blown out. if you look at the bottom of the window there, you can see all of that broken glass from bullets. some shooting happened right around 11:00 on 495 southbound in wrentham. that driver was able to pull over, call police, tell them everything that happened. he's completely fine. not even taken to the hospital. police then started their investigation, looking for a suspect. haven't been able to track anyone down at this point in time and haven't made any arrests, either. one of the most important parts about the investigation where it stands right now is that police say they do not believe that this was a random event. they think it was a targeted shooting. so they don't want the general public to be alerted about a shooter in that area of wrentham because they do not think that this was random. we'll bring you more information as always as it becomes available. that's the latest now. live in symptomboro. susie steimle, wbz this morning. it's 6:03 right now.

developing story. former nba star lamar owed 'em rushed to a las vegas hospital after he was found unresponsive in a brothel in nevada. there are reports he was in regained consciousness. he has had substance abuse problems in the past. he and his ex-wife chloe kardashian finalized their divorce over the summer. a police officer caught on camera threatening a driver resigned rather than go through a disciplinary hearing. he approached a driver for making a wrong turn in the rotary. he was immediately placed on paid administrative leave. this wasn't the first time wees in trouble. he was recorded a few years back tarting a man who was reporting his brother's arrest. right now, the search for church. surveillance video captures him

what happened next has people horrified. nicole jacobs is outside of that church with the details. good morning, nicole. >> reporter: good morning to you. church is typically a place where many come to find comfort or peace of mind. a recent unwelcomed visitor had something completely different. the act was all caught on tape. church. a man well after hours dressed as a priest and imitating the role of a priest until he was seen disrobing and performing altar area. there was also a break-in at the church that same night a few hours earlier. while officials were looking through that surveil los angeles video -- surveillance video. needless to say, parishioners

and church officials are disgusted. >> it's upsetting. it has an emotional effect on everybody. you are just confused as to why somebody would do this. >> reporter: we're told that intruder accessed the priest's robe through the kitchen area. no one seems to really recognize this guy from the church. they are hoping anyone with information, someone who might recognize him watching this morning will give them a call. we're live in cambridge, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. >> hopefully someone will the teenager accused of killing his math teacher will evaluation today. the court psychologist says the 16-year-old has been unresponsive during two previous attempts to evaluate him. yesterday, the judge stopped jury selection when chism's lawyers raised concerns about whether chism was competent to stand trial. he is accused of killing

police investigate a domestic violence claim that a teacher threatened a man james page and he's on administrative leave and banned him from campus. the incident does not involve a student. another attempt to save a teacher's job in brookline. last night, students and parents were allowed to speak during the public comment section of a school committee meeting going on there. they are upset about the firing of larry chen, the teach who're got an -- teacher who got a termination letter after someone heard him swearing in front of a group of students outside of the school. >> let's face it, every middle schooler swears. i don't think he should be fired. >> a petition has been filed to save chen's job. over to campaign 2016, the democrats held their first presidential debate. hillary clinton and bernie

3 north sluggish, union street to the split. there we go. 93 southbound. slow pocket looks like in the andover woburn stretch. you are stop and go between 95 and jug handle light. route 3 south is a struggle between 495 and 129. it is 6:18 right now. solitary confinement in prison will be the subject of debate today in the massachusetts legislature. prisons rights advocates say massachusetts has some of the strictist segregation -- strictest segregation policies in the country. there is a delay in the aaron hernandez murder trial. it was supposed to start on december 1st. now it's set for january. he's already serving a life lloyd.

charges in connection with a murder of a marshfield man. their lawyers claim the victim died by accident. the two faced a judge yesterday. prosecutors say the accused is an attorney and robbed and killed mckenna. his girlfriend is accused of concealing evidence. the attorney says the death was an accident but prosecutors say he appeared to confess involvement with a later conversation with a witness. >> he did it to himself by falling through the picture window. the defendant pointed to his left arm indicating to the witness where the injury had been sustained. >> reporter: police are still searching for a fourth suspect. last month investigators arrested another man whose dna was found at the murder scene. a brookline firefighter is fighting assault charges against him.

man at a local taco restaurant. witnesses say the offduty firefighter got impatient with the man in front of him who food. ward is seen following the man outside and repeatedly punching the man in the face. the ten-year fight fighter leave. ward's attorney is facing his own legal troubles. his name you might remember in may, a woman jumped off his boat. the not guilty, the name of the boat. the 19-year-old was hit by a propeller and lost her arm. he's due back in court teenaged of the month. a new controversy surrounding curt schilling. >> just ahead, what he said about last night's democratic presidential debate. >> massachusetts' only nuclear power plant is going out of business and how it may impact your wallet. who's toughest on spending?

welcome back. we've been talking about this all morning. candidates facing off for the first democratic debate. >> and a look at who came out on top. >> reporter: good morning. did you catch last night's first democratic presidential candidate debate of the season? it took some doing. opening statements are a total turnoff. with all due respect to sheryl crow, we could have done without her rendition of the national anthem. this was not a baseball game. like any debate it was as much about style as any specific issue or candidate statement if not more so. if you were a bernie sanders admirer yesterday, familiar with his democratic socialist politics and unpolished speaking style, you are still one today. he got what may have been the biggest cheer of the night when he said to hillary clinton,

and tired of hearing about your e-mails." the crowd loved that, and so did hillary. in fact, she had to love everything about last night. the former senator and secretary of state was easily the most accomplished debater on stage. none of the contradictisms tossed their way into the pool. none of them rattled her in the slightest. she mixed politics and personal references that are just the sort of thing people look for to determine if a candidate is someone they can relate to. she actually interacted with her opponent in an easy way the others couldn't match. hillary clinton remains a polarizing figure even within her own party. she has a long way to go to win the nomination, let alone the presidency. last night, the only woman on the stage was also the only obviously presidential figure.

>> the mid-week commute is well under way. 93 southbound is bumper to bumper. you will see slow pockets with route 1 southbound you are stop and go between 95 and jug handle lights. to the south, it's clearing but the damage is done. the backup is from 128 down to brockton. route 28 jammed from hingham up to the split. and 95 northbound, you are a mess from norwood up to 128. chris and kathryn? breaking news this morning. police now searching for the driver that fired shots at a car overnight. >> this happened along 495 in wrentham. soucie steimle -- susie steimle, what can you tell us? >> reporter: no arrests have been made, but they did indicate that they do believe that the shooter was in an car

and they are looking for another car involved in this investigation. if you take a look at the video, you can see how remarkable it was that nobody was hurt in the crime. shots fired into the driver's side window. he was able to pull over on the side of 495 and call police and waited for them to show up. they then began their investigation on the southbound side of the highway on 495 in wrentham right before exit 15. so again, no arrests have been made at this point in time, and they are still continuing that investigation. most importantly, they are emphasizing that they do not think that this was random. they believe that it was targeted. that's the latest. we're live in foxboro. susie steimle, wbz this morning. the charlton fire chief is defending his department's response to a massive fire that destroyed a family winery this

summer. the family that owned the charlton orchards winery openly criticized firefighters for not saving their business. among the complaints, why firefighters didn't use watter from a northbound pond. the department says they couldn't access the pond and everyone on scene acted appropriately. fire has been ruled arson. cambridge police are hoping this security video can help track down the man who committed a disturbing crime at a church there. church. a lot of church goers have to >> absolutely. there was a robbery that happened a couple of weeks ago. when going through the surveillance video for that crime, that is when they found the surveillance video that also captured this act. a second man a few hours later dressed as a priest and imitating the role of a priest. we're told that intruder accessed the robe from the

kitchen area. then the video shows him disrobing and performing an inappropriate act in the altar area. the church had to call in the bishop to have a special consecration. needless to say, parishioners and church officials are disgusted. >> it's upsetting. i think it was unfortunate and, you know nothing about the person who broke in, what their motives were and it kind of turns your stomach. >> reporter: they also don't recognize the man who broke in, so they are releasing those images hoping that someone out there will recognize him and give police a call. we're live in cambridge. the department of children and families is getting its first full-time medical director. governor baker announced that dr. linda sager, you see here, a pediatrician from umass

she will make sure every child gets a medical screening within placement. dcf is under scrutiny following several disturbing abuse cases and the deaths of several children. five democrats running for president facing off in their first debate in las vegas last night. it wasn't fireworks that we've seen from republicans. instead, they divided more on strategy than policy. the one issue that had contrast was gun control. they had weapons of resisting gun proposals, a position hillary clinton pounced on early. >> senator sanders did vote five times against the brady bill. since it was passed, more than 2 million prohibited purchases have been prevented. >> over the years, i have strongly supported instant background checks, doing away with the terrible gun show loophole. i think we've got to move

>> the next debate will be held next month in iowa. republican jeb bush is continuing his most recent visit. tomorrow, he'll take part in a round table discussion on doe midwesting violence. the pilgrim nuclear power plant is shutting down. bree is now back with a closer look at what the decision means for jobs and energy bills. good morning, bree. >> good morning, catherine. operations in plymouth will be phased out by 2019 because its operators say the plant is no longer financially viable. 6 50 people will lose their jobs. pilgrim has been controversial since it opened since it opened in 197 2, especially for those living nearby who are concerned about safety. pilgrim is the only nuclear plant in the state that powers

600,000 homes. a combination of low oil and gas prices as well as costly repairs doomed the plant. first there's more pollution. governor baker points out it will cost a carbon-free solution. you can see a power shortage when demand gets high. pilgrim provides 10% built that could be enough. the -- built that could be enough. >> we're concerned that its closure may lead to higher costs, higher prices, and higher power bills and of course in new england, we already have some of the highest power prices anywhere in the country. >> another issue at play here is real estate. residents near the plant had been campaigning for years -- complaining for years that it drags down property values. if the nuclear waste remains stored there permanently,

there are a couple of 40s on the map. 47 in taunton. 56 in the city of boston right now, and the sun will be out and shining here. officially coming up in ten minutes from now. notice back to the west, there are clouds across new york and back to vermont. there is a secondary cold front. it marks the leading edge of much chillier air. it's this front that comes in later on today and brings the threat for a passing sprinkle. it would be isolated. most of us will stay dry but you will notice the clouds this afternoon. tomorrow looks beautiful. tomorrow low 60s for highs. on friday, here comes the next front starting with sunshine early, early on friday morning. then the clouds build in. passing showers come through. so it's not an all-day rain or anything like that. it's west to east scattered showers.
