a killer faces his victim's family before he's locked up for life. >> caught on camera, the creepy crime inside a church and the warning for neighbors. >> and we'll enjoy another beautiful day out there with our pretty nice temperatures but colder weather is on the way. volkswagen. what the car company is admitting this noon and why it could mean delays for those looking to buy. now at noon, a boston grandmother murdered in a robbery for drug money.

barbara coin was a well known woman in the south boston community. her horrific death shot many. good afternoon thank you for being here with us. i'm -- >> now the killer will spend his entire life in jail. >> reporter: his family was in court today, and of course the victim's family was there. both were very emotional. but as the judge said there were no winners in this case. it was april of 2012 a 67-year- old grandmother was murdered in her boston home. she was able to give her suspect.

and she fought until her death. the dna of the suspect was found in her fingernails. coin's tearful family addressed the court. >> it's the little things that i miss when i wake up. going down the house every morning, sitting with her and having coffee and talking. i've come to realize, it wasn't the coffee, because god knows it wasn't the best coffee in the world. but it was the best part of my day and that's been taken away from me forever. >> your honor, he does not belong in society. he is far too dangerous to everyone. >> i've allowed the rage to consume me or i can allow it to strengthen me, and i choose the latter. >> reporter: another impactful statement came from connelly

who says this was a great example of great dna and science that came forward. he said it was like if the victim in this case barbara was death. because the jury was able to see that dna that completely linked her killer to this crime under her fingernails. we're live in boston, nicole jacobs, wbz news. >> nicole, thank you very much. >> cambridge police are looking for a man who was preying on a local church. surveillance camera catches the man going into the church and putting on a priests robe then committing a lewd act at the altar. the church called the bishop to have a special consecration after this was discovered. police are warning neighbors at

make sure they lock their schools. today pope francis asks forgiveness for recent scandals committed by the church. recently a vatican montesenior came out as gay and denounced homo phobia throughout the church. israeli police fired smoke bombs. but the military increased on the west bank has only inflamed the crowds. yesterday was the worse day with four attacks in less than 24 hours. secretary of state john kerry has plans to travel to the region to help calm tensions. police are looking for the person who opened fire on a car traveling down 495 in renton. authorities say this appears to be a targeted shooting. and you can see, if you look closely the window of the car was completely shot out.

clouds are starting to show up. so the afternoon is not going to be as sunny. there'll be lots of clouds and there might even be an isolated shower. mostly on the light side. especially in western and northern new england. temperatures aren't going to go up as much as they have been. as you can see for the next few hours we go down to the lower 60s and finally at 9:00 we're going to be right back in the 50s. the highs this afternoon are actually really occurring for the most part right now. 67, 68 in many spots. slowly dropping off later as we get more and more clouds. how about the rest of the weekend? when will we get really cold. i'll let you know in the forecast. >> i don't know if i'm looking quite forward to that but we'll check in with you in a few minutes. a fall classic ruined by vandals. this is the imagine of the

in two separate incidents, parts of displays were born, knocked over and thrown on top of the postoffice. the scare crows were created by children and their families. over to campaign 2016 the democrats are picking up today after their first debate. >> there weren't many fireworks but two candidates walked away shining bright. >> reporter: hillary clinton was flushed with excitement as she met with supporters following last night's debate. >> we're going to win. >> senator sanders voted five times against the brady bill. >> the american people are sick and tired of hearing about your dam e-mail. >> thank you.

courtroom. the court psychologists says the 16-year-old has been unresponsive during two previous attempts to analyze him. chism is accused of rape and the murder of his teacher. there's a delay in the trial of hernandez. hernandez is charged with killing two men in the south bend in 2012. he's already serving a life sentence for the murder of odom lloyd. a hearing had been scheduled for tomorrow. steven labird was off duty when he approached a driver back in july for making a wrong turn at a rotary and threatened to shoot that driver in the head. he was immediately placed on paid administrative leave. this isn't the first time he was in trouble. he was recorded a few years ago

taunting a man who was recording the arrest of his brother. a teacher is out of a job as the school administration is investigating allegations that he strangled a child. we're told this incident does not involve a student. volkswagen admitting their 2016 diesel models contain software to full emission tests. this regulation is on top of technology found on diesel cars that set off a worldwide cheating scandal last month. this could delay some new volkswagen models. >> just how generous are you. we're going to introduce you to a couple that donates half of their salary to charity every year. and showing why they have the right stuff. why the new kids on the block

behind after a small plane slams into a florida park. >> and now authorities are heading to that plane crash. that plane was 2-miles from the airport when it literally fell from the sky. residents watched the plane come down at a very sharp angle. then there's a smoke plume you see -- following that. neighbors ran to help. >> the plane fell and then you see a lot of smoke. a bunch of fire, black smoke. she tried to go and save them but there was too much, there's too much smoke. >> the pilot was killed and a 25-year-old daughter home sick from college was the other victim killed in that crash. today reality tv star and former nba star lamar odom is

hospitalized in las vegas. the business owner says that odom had been at the brothel since saturday drinking. today khloe kardashian is by his side. a family is donating half of their salary. >> we have all we need. we share what we can. >> reporter: jeff kauffman and his wife are as humble as they are generous. >> we like to do as much as we can. we're shooting for over 100,000 this year. >> reporter: every year they donate half of their salary more than $100,000 to charity and they're not extremely wealthy by american standards. he's a 29-year-old software engineer and she's a 30-year- old mom working two part time jobs. last year they earned about $250,000 and they gave more than 128,000 of it away. >> we have enough that we feel

>> they have one daughter and one on the way. and their budget is very tight. >> we try to prioritize what is really important to us and let the rest of it go. >> the main way we figure out where to give is through an organization called give well. they're a charity evaluator. they try to find the places where your money can do the most good. >> reporter: both agree that gives away half of their income comes with sacrifices. they don't go to fancy restaurants, they don't own a big screen tv and they've never owned a car. they save what they can and give the rest away. >> it gives us satisfaction to know that we're doing something more important with our money than buying a big screen tv. >> reporter: they also hope

that it teaches their daughter to live well. >> a lesson in generosity. how about that. thank goodness. they're going above and beyond. >> above and beyond for sure. the weather has been above and beyond. >> it really has. it feels awesome out there. >> the clouds are starting to roll in. at 4:00 this afternoon, it's different this morning when we have so much sunshine. from our tower cam we can look toward boston and see some color in the foreground there as you can see. beautiful color actually it looked like this season, fully season was heading out. that it might be not a stellar year but we've had so many pictures come in from everybody thanks to cindy for this one for the great foliage. it's been beautiful around the region. we've been getting more and more comments about how stunning it is.

how about october so far. we've gone into the plus column since we've had all these warm days today it's fourth in a row of our warm weather. we're going to enjoy it to the max for a while. after being in the lower 70s yesterday. this is probably the warmest we'll have for a few days because the temperature trend is going to be down as we go through time. note, washington is at 34 degrees right now. we're looking at 50s off to the west and 60s to the south. so nice weather across the entire northeast. there's another weak front on its way which may cause a brief shower this afternoon. a few spots mostly on the light we'll have cooler weather coming in for tomorrow. another cold front comes along about friday and that will also produce a higher risk of showers coming in. so we see the clouds coming through this afternoon from time to time. varying amounts of clouds and sunshine at times. it will clear us out tonight. in fact, most of tomorrow will be nice and sunny. we'll have the development of the clouds that we're having right now. tomorrow should be a good one.

we're looking at a system comes at us mostly on friday. the clouds start to come in. here's all the showers here. most of those will be coming in during friday afternoon and a couple of showers may still be around on saturday. 50 in boston, 40 in most of the suburbs. near 50 in cape cod. bedford about 63. beverly about 62. boston 62. so again about six or so degrees a little lower than they were today. upper 50s in parts of the hills. in south eastern massachusetts around the lower 60s as well. with a brisk breeze. the air flow is going to be changing as a jet stream brings the chillier out of canada. a pretty good blast coming in this weekend with the first breeze coming in perhaps. it's going to be cold and windy. looks like 48 on sunday and 56 to 58 on sunday. so, sunday certainly being the coldest of the weekend days with a lot of wind.
