to sign a tip for gratuity. and bautista's home run sends toronto to the american league championship series. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york. thanks for joining us. i'm meg oliver in for anne-marie green. after a router problem shut it down for over an hour last night. the glitch led to long delays for international passengers. problems were reported in new york, boston, los angeles, atlanta, dallas/ft. worth and other points of entry. don champion is at new york's kennedy airport. don, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, meg. this is the computer system that checked airline passengers against terrorism watch lists. the outage lasted about 90 minutes and created headaches and long delays at several airports. >> i never thought anything like

thousands of travelers. there were long waits on customs lines for passengers entering the u.s. and for those checking in for international flights. >> the people up there were people that couldn't walk. it was crazy. crazy. people in wheelchair that were, like, crying, waiting there for hours. >> reporter: during the computer breakdown, the customs and border protection agency said it processed international travelers using alternative procedures and there is, quote, no indication the service disruption was malicious in nature. >> they finally just, you know, let everyone fill out a form and get through. >> reporter: once the issue was resolved, customs lines started to open up. but for the thousands of passengers caught in the computer glitch, it was a long and frustrating delay. now, even after the problem with this, it did take quite a while for all of the impacted anyone who travels internationally knows, it

glitches to cause any backups at customs check poise. meg? >> don champion for us at new york's kennedy airport, thank you. later this morning, president obama is spped to change his decision to slow the withdrawal of u.s. troops from afghanistan. there are currently 10,000 u.s. troops there. the president is spped to say about 6,000 american troops will 2016. a dramatic increase from the soldiers that the president originally planned to keep there by the end of next year. this comes on the increase of taliban action last month who kunduz. the city was recaptured but they warn a stronger u.s. presence is needed to combat the militants. the arab league is calling for an emergency meeting of the u.n. security council to discuss israeli. at least eight israeli have been killed, along with 31 palestinians, during the

arab ambassadors at the nun meet today to discuss the crisis. johnathan vigliotti has our report from jerusalem. >> reporter: heavily armed israeli soldiers checked vehicles this morning. the effort one of many measures officials are taking to stop a including several random stabbings. on wednesday, israeli authorities shot and killed a palestinian who allegedly tried to stab security forces outside jerusalem's old city. another palestinian who reportedly stabbed a 70-year-old israeli woman at a crowded bus station in the holly city was also killed. as the situation intensifies, the israeli government has eased gun laws here for citizens to defend themselves and so far officials say several armed citizens have helped prevent attack. the u.s. is urging both sides to take steps to deescalate the tension. >> ultimately ending this conflict will make decisions to

end this crisis. >> reporter: on wednesday, prime minister benjamin netanyahu accused the palestinians of sabotaging the peace process and israeli prime minister mahmoud abbas claimed the palestinians. secretary of state john kerry will travel to the region soon to meet with leaders from both sides. johnathan vigliotti, cbs news, jerusalem. six members of a secretive church sect in new york city are under arrest for allegedly beating to death a teenager and seriously injuring his younger brother. the church is located in new hartford in upstate new york. two of those in custody are the boys' parents. >> reporter: 65-year-old bruise leonard and his 59-year-old wife debra are charged with manslaughter after police say they beat their 19-year-old jon lucas to death. >> we are not alleging they intended to kill their son but

alleging they tried to seriously hurt their son and, ultimately, he died from those injuries. >> reporter: the new hartford police chief says lucas and his 17-year-old brother christopher were brutally attacked. investigators say church members described it as a spiritual counseling session. >> both brothers were continual subjected to continued punishment over the course of several hours in the hopes that each would confess the prior sins and ask for forgiveness. >> reporter: the police complainant says lucas suffered the following injuries and he stopped breathing and taken to the hospital later. later, police stormed the church beaten. the parents and a sister are accused of assaulting christopher. this lady lived close to the church.
